Abstract: This invention relates to quaternaries of halogen derivatives of alkynoxymethyl amines and uses thereof. These may be summarized by the following formulae: ##STR1## where R and R' are substituted groups such as alkyl, aryl, etc.; R" is an alkyldene group; and X is halogen and A is an anion; and ##STR2## where R, R' and R" having the same meaning as in (1) and Z is a bridging group, preferably hydrocarbon such as alkylene, alkinylene, alkenylene, arylene, etc.
Abstract: This invention relates to quaternaries of alkynoxymethyl amines and uses thereof. These may be summarized by the following formulae: ##STR1## where R and R' are substituted groups such as alkyl, aryl, etc.; R'" is an acetylenic group; and X is an anion; and ##STR2## where R and R'" having the same meaning as in (1) and Z is a bridging group, preferably hydrocarbon such as alkylene, alkinylene, alkenylene, arylene, etc.
Abstract: This invention relates to a process of inhibiting pitting corrosion which is characterized by the use of synergistic mixtures of organic anodic and cathodic corrosion inhibitors. These synergistic mixtures effectively inhibit pitting corrosion in highly oxygenated systems without the conventional use of heavy metals such as zinc (Zn) or chromium (Cr). This invention also relates to the use of alkoxysilyl alkylene polyamines as pitting corrosion inhibitors.
Abstract: This invention relates to the use of hydrocarbon polymers to improve the hardness of waxes. Blends of hydrocarbon polymers in soft waxes are unexpectedly harder than each component thereof. In addition the blending of hydrocarbon polymers into waxes has a lesser effect on the undesirable properties of (1) increased viscosities and (2) increased cloud points, than occurs when polyethylene are blended into wax.

Abstract: Benzazoles of the general formula ##STR1## and derivatives thereof; where X=O, S, NH and n is a number, for example 3-12 or greater, such as 3-5 or greater, and R is a substituted group, for example, a hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon group, such as alkyl, etc. and n' is a number 0-3 or greater; and to use for such benzazoles as corrosion inhibitors.
Abstract: This invention relates to adducts of salts of polymerizable tertiary amines with acrylic compounds illustrated by acrylamide and acrylonitrile; to polymers and copolymers containing said adducts and to processes for preparing them. This invention also relates to the use of said polymers and copolymers, particularly in the clarification of turbid waters by flocculation or flotation of oil and/or suspended solids. In the preferred embodiment, the quaternary adduct monomer is: ##STR1## where X is an anion, preferably halide such as chloride or carboxylate such as acetate; and polymers and copolymers containing units thereof.

Abstract: This invention relates to the use of compounds for inhibiting scale formation, said compounds being characterized by the presence of N-methyl, or substituted methyl, phosphonic acid and N-hydroxy-propylenesulfonic acid groups. These compounds contain at least one or more of each group and are bonded to the same or different amino groups. They are derived by reacting an amine with both (1) an epihalohydrin-bisulfite addition product and (2) with a carbonyl compound, such as formaldehyde, and phosphorous acid or its equivalent. They have a wide variety of uses, for example as scale and corrosion inhibitors, iron oxide removers, chelating agents, etc.
Abstract: This invention relates to stable, fluid magnesium-containing dispersions and the preparations thereof by the high temperature dehydration of Mg(OH).sub.2 to MgO in a dispersant-containing fluid.
Abstract: This invention relates to stable, fluid magnesium-containing dispersions and the preparations thereof by the high temperature decomposition of MgCO.sub.3 to MgO in a dispersant-containing fluid.
Abstract: Diluted bitumen emulsion, the aqueous phase of which carries undissolved mineral particles, is upgraded by resolving it by subjecting it to a unidirectional electric field established between an energized electrode and an aqueous material surface serving as an electrical ground. The emulsion is introduced below the level of such surface and allowed to rise. A potential gradient is provided which is sufficient to cause coalescence of the aqueous material in the emulsion as soon as the emulsion breaks the aqueous material surface, the emulsion thereby being resolved at such surface.
Abstract: An electric treater and process for electrically resolving emulsions into organic and aqueous phases. The treater includes a horizontally positioned, planar, permeable electrode which is the only electrode means positioned in the treater. The interface between the bodies of organic and aqueous material which collect in the treater is kept at a position intermediate the electrode and a distributor means for introducing emulsion into the treater. The emulsion is resolved at the water surface, which serves as a grounded electrode.
Abstract: This invention relates to the use of hydrocarbon polymers for example of the type described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,060,569 to bind oil contained in waxes so that, in end use performance, the wax more closely equals fully refined wax. Among other things, the hydrocarbon polymer not only inhibits and/or prevents the oil in the wax from "sweating" or exuding to the surface but also hardens the wax. The hydrocarbon polymers can also be used to thicken oil to a paste or gel.

Abstract: The media employed in the electrofiltration of organic fluids can be regenerated by washing with inorganic acids such as phosphoric, nitric, etc., acids. It is particularly effective in systems employing metal catalysts, for example nickel, etc., in hydrogenation systems such as in hydrogenated vegetable oils, etc.
