Abstract: This invention relates to hexahydropyrimidines prepared by condensing cyclohexanone, or derivatives thereof, with ammonia to yield tetrahydropyrimidines, which can be reduced to hexahydropyrimidines, whose pyrimidine ring can be broken to yield diamines having one primary amino group, which primary group can be reacted with a carbonyl to yield Schiff base imines, which Schiff base imines can be reduced to N-substituted amino groups. The two amino groups of the reduced Schiff base can be bridged by reaction with an aldehyde to form the novel N,N'-disubstituted hexahydropyrimidines. This invention also relates to the use of these products as antioxidants.
Abstract: Cathodic protection monitoring of large metallic structures receiving cathodic current from a remote anodic electrode. Exposed to the cathodic current, closely adjacent the metallic structure, is a metallic specimen with a surface area of less than one-tenth of the structure's area. Current flow is induced between the specimen and the structure until their potential difference is substantially zero. Measurement of the induced current flow allows the current density impressed upon the specimen to be determined, and it is substantially identical to the current density impressed upon the structure by the cathodic current. Anodic and cathodic induced current flows are employed for varying the potential of the specimen relative to the structure (as reference) to determine anodic and cathodic reaction rates, unprotected corrosion rate of the structure, and the cathodic current required to protect the structure. The metallic specimen may be partially encased in an insulating covering.
Abstract: This invention relates to the reduction of THP to perhydrophenanthridines (PHA) with formic acid. This is illustrated by the following equation ##STR1## where R is hydrogen or a substituted group, such as hydrocarbon, for example alkyl, etc.; and X and Y are hydrogen or a substituted group, such as a hydrocarbon group containing a functional group, for example alkyl-X where X is a functional group such as nitrilo, carboxyl, etc. The perhydrophenanthridines of this invention are useful as corrosion inhibitors and as fuel stability additives.

Abstract: This invention relates to quaternaries of alkynoxymethyl amines and uses thereof. These may be summarized by the following formulae: ##STR1## where R and R' are substituted groups such as alkyl, aryl, etc.; R''' is an acetylenic group; and X is an anion; and ##STR2## where R and R''' having the same meaning as in (1) and Z is a bridging group, preferably hydrocarbon such as alkylene, alkinylene, alkenylene, arylene, etc.
Abstract: This invention relates to the process of inhibiting corrosion, and to compositions employed therein, which comprises coating copper with a barrier corrosion inhibitor, such as a water insoluble sulfonate, for example a petroleum or similar sulfonate as illustrated by a metal petroleum sulfonate, which contains an agent capable of complexing with copper, such as an organic sulfur, nitrogen, or sulfur-nitrogen compound for example an organic triazole, thiazole or the like. This process is particularly effective in inhibiting the corrosion of copper buried in the earth such as occurs when copper is exposed to electrochemical forces such as when copper is employed as neutral wires wrapped around the outside of an insulated power conducting cable and buried in the earth.
