Abstract: A high solids latex of a functional monomer may be prepared by emulsion polymerization of the monomer charge to a specified overall conversion and then introducing an additional micelle forming surfactant or a unimodal seed latex and continuing the polymerization.
Abstract: Elastomeric compositions containing EPDM elastomers are provided, the vulcanizates of which show substantially improved adhesion properties with good dynamic ozone resistance, superior aged fatigue life and high resilience. The EPDM used is of high molecular weight and has a non-conjugated diene content of at least 6 weight percent preferably at least 7.5%. The composition also contains highly unsaturated elastomers, such as natural rubber and polybutadiene, as the additional elastomeric components.

Abstract: Rubber compositions are provided comprising per 100 parts by weight from about 65 to about 97 parts by weight of at least one rubber selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, synthetic cis-1,4-isoprene rubber, cis-1,4-butadiene rubber and brominated butyl rubber, and from about 3 to about 35 parts by weight of at least one carboxylated rubber selected from the group consisting of carboxylated styrene-butadiene rubber, carboxylated butadiene rubber, carboxylated isoprene rubber and carboxylated natural rubber, from about 20 to about 60 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of rubbers of carbon black, from about 3 to about 25 phr of process oil and from about 1 to about 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of rubber of metal oxide. The compositions are vulcanizable and the vulcanizates exhibit a good combination of vibration damping and noise insulating properties and are suitable for automotive engine mounts.

Abstract: Thermoplastic compositions particularly suitable for fabrication of low permeability hoses are produced by mixing a crystalline polyamide and a carboxylated synthetic rubber as polymeric materials and as a first additive a member selected from halides of lithium, magnesium, calcium and zinc and as a second additive a member selected from oxides and hydroxides of magnesium, calcium, barium and zinc and the peroxides of calcium and zinc.

Abstract: A distillation apparatus is provided for the fractionation of a hydrocarbon stream. A part of the heat energy to operate the apparatus is provided by heat exchange of a recycled bottom liquid stream with an overhead vapor stream which has been compressed with a concurrent increase in temperature. Such an apparatus may be used to fractionate a C.sub.4 hydrocarbon feed.

Abstract: The resistance to internal charring of molded styrene-butadiene latex foam rubber when exposed to a lit cigarette is improved by incorporating from about 10 to 30 parts by dry weight, per hundred parts by dry weight of latex of a compound selected from the group consisting of an organic phosphate of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is a C.sub.6-12 alkyl radical or a phenyl radical, which is unsubstituted or substituted by a C.sub.1-4 alkyl radical, butyl benzyl phthalate, and a mixture thereof.

Abstract: A process is provided for the coagulation of rubber polymers from aqueous emulsions thereof wherein the coagulation is undertaken in the presence of an additive selected from a polysaccharide material and from a vegetable derived proteinaceous material. The polymers so coagulated are readily dried and may be used for the manufacture of products well known for the specific polymers.
