Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for transmtting/receiving signal, supporting a variable coding rate, in a communication system. The method includes receiving an information vector, generating a child parity check matrix based on a parent parity check matrix according to a coding rate to be applied for generating a block Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codeword using the information vector, and encoding the information vector into the block LDPC codeword according to the child parity check matrix.

Abstract: A look-ahead decision feedback equalizing receiver includes an equalizing block for amplifying a high-frequency component of an external data signal fed thereto in response to a first and a second input signal, to provide a first and a second equalized external data signal; a clock synthesizer for outputting sampling clocks, a timing thereof being adjusted by receiving an external clock synchronized with the external data signal; an over-sampler for over-sampling the first and the second equalized external data signal in synchronization with the sampling clocks. A MUX block for multiplexing the outputs of the over-sampler in response to outputs of the MUX block, to thereby attain decision results; and a phase detector for deciding the timing of the sampling clock by analyzing the decision results.
Abstract: A system for measuring flow information of a fluid, the system includes a light emission control unit for passing an X-ray through a specimen only at desired moments; a scintillator installed on an axis of a beam to convert an X-ray wavelength flow image, which is generated while the X-ray passes through the specimen, into a visible wavelength flow image; and a recording device for acquiring a flow image focused on the scintillator. The system may further include a synchronization unit for synchronizing the recording device with the light emission control unit to acquire two or more flow images at a predetermined interval using the recording device; and a PIV velocity field measurement unit for extracting quantitative flow information from the two or more flow images acquired by the recording device.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gene regulating flowering time and a method for regulating flowering time in plants using the same. More particularly, the present invention relates to a COG gene having nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID No: 1 which is isolated from Arabidopsis thaliana, and a method for delaying flowering time of plants by overexpressing the gene, or for inducing early flowering by repressing an expression of the gene. The COG gene and the COG protein expressed therefrom according to the present invention are useful for improvement of flowering-associated character of plants, and for identification of flowering-associated genes or proteins in other plants, etc.

Abstract: A sound focus speaker adopting a gas-filled sound lens enhances efficiency of transferring sound from a source to target area and of protecting a spread of transferred sound. The sound focus speaker includes a gas-filled sound lens, sound sources for generating sound and a sound-absorption room for surrounding the sound lens and the sound sources. Sound emitted from the sound focus speaker is focused at specific distance to make a focus point and not spread to the outer of the focus point from forming a sound area.
Abstract: A linear amplification with nonlinear components (LINC) power transmitter is provided. The LINC power transmitter includes a digital signal processing unit which controls the LINC power transmitter; a frequency modulation unit which modulates or converts a digital signal output from the digital signal processing unit into a radio-frequency (RF) signal; a signal amplification unit which amplifies the RF signal output from the frequency modulation unit using a gain amplifier and a power amplification module; and a direct current/direct current (DC/DC) conversion unit which controls bias of the power amplification module. Here, the DC/DC conversion unit controls a base bias and/or a collect bias of the power amplification module, and the power amplification module operates in saturation.

Abstract: An ultrasonic ranging method for measuring a distance to an object in an air includes the steps of generating a first and a second primary ultrasonic waves having a frequency f1 and f2, respectively, transmitting the first and the second primary ultrasonic waves in a same direction, wherein a secondary ultrasonic wave having a frequency corresponding to the difference of two frequencies fd=f1?f2 is created by a nonlinear property of the air and radiated to the object, detecting an echo pulse of the secondary ultrasonic wave reflected from the object, and measuring the distance to the object based on a propagation time of the secondary wave.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing transformants with enhanced resistance and decreased uptake of heavy metals, and a plant transformed with a P type ATPase ZntA gene that pumps out heavy metals from the cells. The transformants show better growth than wild type in environment contaminated with heavy metals and have lower heavy metal contents than wild type plants. Therefore, this method of transforming plants with ZntA or biologically active ZntA—like heavy metal pumping ATPases can be useful for developing plants for phytoremediation and also for a safe crop that has resistance to heavy metals and low heavy metal contents.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of using a compound as an inhibitor for ?-secretase, wherein the compound is capable of binding to the site within the ?-secretase recognition and/or cleavage site on amyloid precursor protein to specifically inhibit the ?-secretase's activity to cleave amyloid precursor protein with maintaining its activities to other substrates. Further, the present invention relates to inhibitors of amyloid precursor protein (APP) processing which bind to the site within the ?-secretase or ?-secretase cleavage and/or recognition site on amyloid precursor protein.
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring heat dissipation of a target heating element includes a reference heating element for emitting heat; a control unit; and a pair of temperature measuring devices for measuring representative temperatures of the target and the reference heating element and transmitting to the control unit signals indicating the representative temperatures. The reference heating element has an outer configuration and sizes substantially identical to those of the target heating element. The control unit controls the reference heating element such that the representative temperature of the reference heating element becomes substantially identical to that of the target heating element.
Abstract: The present invention relates to calix[4]arene-nucleoside hybrids containing calix[4]arene moieties and calix[4]arene-oligonucleotide hybrids as a DNA hairpin structure mimics synthesized by using the calix[4]arene-nucleoside as a key building block. Calix[4]arene-nucleoside and calix[4]arene-oligonucleotide hybrids of the present invention can effectively recognize DNA or RNA through triplex formation by bonding between calix[4]arene containing cavity and biologically active substance.

Abstract: Provided are a dynamic time warping device using speech recognition software, and a speech recognition apparatus using the same. The dynamic time warping device includes memory units for processing characterization vectors of a test pattern and a predetermined reference pattern using a FIFO queue, and a plurality of processing elements serially connected to each other, the plurality of processing elements multiplying a predetermined weight by a difference between the characterization vectors of the test and reference patterns, which are obtained by shifting them in the opposite directions, adding the multiplication result to matching cost values of adjacent nodes, and comparing the addition results to detect the smallest matching cost value. Accordingly, fast speech recognition can be realized by embedding speech recognition software using a dynamic time warping algorithm into hardware.
Abstract: Provided is a digital feedback linearizing apparatus and method to linearize a power amplifier (PA), which is intended to improve the linearity of a mobile communication base station PA, and more particularly, a digital feedback linearizing apparatus and method to linearize a PA using a digital signal process (DSP) and a feedback technology, in which a predistorted signal required for linearization is generated by adding an input signal input through a predetermined path to an inverse distortion component corresponding to a distortion component of an PA and in which a linearly amplified output signal is obtained by passing the predistorted signal through the PA.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a nanocrystalline titanium alloy by performing an equal channel angular pressing process to a titanium alloy material, and a nanocrystalline titanium alloy manufactured using the method and apparatus. The method for manufacturing the nanocrystalline titanium alloy includes steps of preparing a titanium alloy material, and performing an equal channel angular pressing process on the titanium alloy material at an isothermal condition of 575° C. to 625° C. The nanocrystalline titanium alloy according to has a grain size of 300 nm.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a plastic photonic crystal fiber for terahertz wave transmission and a method for the manufacturing thereof. More particularly, the present invention is directed to a plastic photonic crystal fiber that can be easily manufactured and has low loss characteristics to be used as a waveguide of terahertz waves. The plastic photonic crystal fiber includes a crystal defect component having a longitudinal axis and a photonic crystal component surrounding the crystal defect component. The photonic crystal component has an array of a plurality of plastic elements having longitudinal axes and forming a 2-dimensional photonic crystal structure with a predetermined lattice constant. Further, the plastic photonic crystal fiber of the present invention can be used as a preform from which a plastic photonic crystal fiber for an optical communication (400–800 nm) can be drawn.
Abstract: Provided are a nitride semiconductor device and method of manufacturing the same. In the method, semiconductor nanorods are vertically grown on a substrate, and then a nitride semiconductor thin film is deposited on the substrate having the semiconductor nanorods. Accordingly, a high-quality nitride semiconductor thin film can be deposited on a variety of inexpensive, large-sized substrates. Also, because the nitride semiconductor thin film containing the semiconductor nanorods can easily emit light through openings between the nanorods, internal scattering can be greatly reduced. Thus, the nitride semiconductor thin film can be usefully employed in optical devices such as light emitting diodes and electronic devices.
Abstract: An intelligent STEP-NC (Standard for the Exchange of Produce model-Numerical Controller) overcomes short-comings of conventional NCs with a closed structure The intelligent STEP-NC intelligently performs a machining process based on ISO 14649 data while autonomously coping with an emergency at a shop-floor. Thus, the discontinuity of information in a CAD-CAM-CNC chain where the current NCs are operated can be overcome and the concept of “design-to-manufacture” can be realized.
