Abstract: Provided are novel compositions exhibiting highly effective antiviral, antimicrobial and/or antifungal activity. The compositions of the invention can be used for sanitizing and/or disinfecting surfaces, e.g., inanimate and/or animate surfaces. Preferred compositions include a synergistic combination of an alcohol, docusate, geraniol and, optionally, menthol. The invention provides compositions that have high antimicrobial activity, yet are mild, non-irritating, quick drying, non-sticky and not drying to the skin. Processes for manufacturing and using the compositions and products containing such compositions are also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention provides a method of preparing ?-erythritol fatty acid monoester, including: subjecting a fatty acid and erythritol to esterification reaction in the presence of an acid catalyst, a water carrier and an optional phase transfer catalyst, wherein the molar ratio of the fatty acid to erythritol is 1:2 to 1:3, and the temperature of the esterification reaction is 80-100° C. In addition, the invention further provides a method of preparing 2,3-erythritol fatty acid diester, including: subjecting a fatty acid and erythritol to esterification reaction in the presence of an acid catalyst and a water carrier, wherein the molar ratio of the fatty acid to erythritol is 2:1 to 3:1, and the temperature of the esterification reaction is 120-160° C.

Abstract: A device for generating optical vortex of desired topological charge is disclosed. The device comprises a circular mirror having hole at its centre and a radial slit. The mirror comprises a piezoelectric actuator. The actuator comprises a hollow tube having inner diameter equal to the diameter of the hole of the mirror, a through cut extending along the length of the tube from an inner till an outer diameter, and an inner and outer electrode being formed on inner and outer wall of the tube respectively, wherein the length of the electrode increases continuously in the azimuth direction across said outer wall. The Actuator is coaxially joined to the mirror such that the slit formed between the inner and outer diameter of the tube overlaps with the radial slit. Shape of the mirror undergoes azimuthal expansion upon applying excitation voltage across electrodes forming single turn helix to generate optical vortex.

Abstract: Described herein is the finding that hyaluronan antagonists that inhibit hyaluronan signaling are capable of inhibiting airway inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR). The present disclosure provides a method of preventing or reducing AHR in a subject suffering from or at risk for AHR by administering a hyaluronan antagonist. Also provided is a method of treating an airway disease or disorder in a subject by administering a hyaluronan antagonist.
