Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for forming conformal, low wet etch rate silicon nitride films having low hydrogen content using atomic layer deposition are described herein. Methods involve depositing a silicon nitride film at a first temperature using a bromine-containing and/or iodine-containing silicon precursor and nitrogen by atomic layer deposition and treating the silicon nitride film using a plasma at a temperature less than about 100° C. Methods and apparatuses are suitable for forming conformal, dense, low wet etch rate silicon nitride films as encapsulation layers over chalcogenide materials for memory applications.

Abstract: A method of creating cadmium telluride films is presented. The method demonstrates heterogeneous nucleation of CdTe directly on a substrate through sequential deposition of aqueous precursor solutions containing cadmium and telluride ions, respectively. The method can include (i) applying a cadmium precursor solution to the substrate to form a cadmium precursor film on the substrate, (ii) applying a telluride precursor solution to the cadmium precursor film. The telluride precursor solution includes Te2? in solution such that a CdTe film is adherently formed directly on the substrate.

Abstract: Determining deviation of a multi jointed robot under load using a tribological contact between an end of the robot and any available hard constraint near the robot, involves pressing the end against the constraint, and then soliciting a movement of the end relative to the constraint in a tribologically resisted direction to apply a force that does not overbear the resistance. By measuring the force and a position encoded by the robot, a deviation of the robot under the corresponding load is determined. Correction terms may be required for deformation of the tribological surface and/or constraint. The constraint may be tooling or parts subjected to an intended process. The deviation at many measurement poses of the robot, each in multiple resisted directions, within the ordinary operating space of the robot, was used to derive compliances of the robot, and a kinetostatic model.
Abstract: An actuator assembly (16) for moving a device (22) includes a stator component (30), a mover component (32), a measurement system (18), and a signal processor (20). The measurement system (18) includes (i) a magnet assembly (244) that is coupled to and moves with the mover component (32); and (ii) a plurality of spaced apart sensors (246A). The magnet assembly (244) produces a magnetic field (244B) that moves relative to the stator component (30) as the mover component (32) moves along a mover axis (32C). Each sensor (246A) is a transducer that generates a sensor signal that varies its output voltage in response to the changing magnetic field (244B) from the magnet assembly (244) as the mover component (32) is moved relative to the sensors (246A). The signal processor (20) receives the sensor signals and estimates a position of the mover component (32) along the mover axis (32C) based at least in part on the sensor signals.

Abstract: A pressurized, fluid-filled channel network embedded in an elastic structure, asymmetrically to the neutral plane, is used to create a deformation field within the structure by the pressurization of the embedded fluidic network, which can be applied in accordance with external forces acting on the structure. The deformation of the structure resulting from the liquid pressure and geometry of the network is related to a continuous deformation-field function. This enables the design of networks creating steady arbitrary deformation fields as well as to eliminate deformation created by external time varying forces, thus increasing the effective rigidity of the beam. By including the effects of the deformation created by the channel network on the beam inertia, the response of the beam to oscillating forces can be modified, enabling the design of channel networks which create pre-defined oscillating deformation patterns in response to external oscillating forces.

Abstract: Invasive fungal infections present a formidable global public health challenge due to the limited number of approved antifungal agents and the emergence of resistance to the frontline treatment options, such as fluconazole. Three fungal pathogens of significant concern are Candida, Cryptococcus, and Aspergillus given their propensity to cause opportunistic infections in immunocompromised individuals. This disclosure provides a set of aryl isonitrile compounds that possess broad-spectrum antifungal activity primarily against species of Candida and Cryptococcus. The most potent derivatives are capable of inhibiting growth of these key pathogens at concentrations as low as 0.5 ?M. Remarkably, the most active compounds exhibit an excellent safety profile and are non-toxic to mammalian cells even at concentrations up to 256 ?M.

Abstract: A programmable-threshold power supply selector has two power-supply inputs VDD1 and VDD2. The higher of these two voltages is pre-selected as a common supply that powers all transistors and circuitry in the programmable-threshold power supply selector, including substrates under transistors. An open-loop decision circuit is very stable since it uses no feedback. A tunable voltage divider divides VDD1 by a programmable divisor. The divided VDD1 is compared to a reference voltage to generate switch-control signals. The switch-control signals drive the gates of p-channel switch transistors that connect either VDD1 or VDD2 to an output supply voltage. The different programmable divisor values effectively cause VDD1 to be compared to a programmable threshold voltage VTH. The switch transistors switch the output supply voltage to VDD2 only when VDD1 falls below VTH. The output supply voltage remains at VDD1 even when VDD1 falls below VDD2, eliminating unnecessary power switching.
