  • Patent number: 6765046
Abstract: Products based on polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) so resistant to yellowing and so highly transparent that even the edges of plates produced from this material have a neutral colour, i.e. do not display any yellow tone. This effect is obtained by the admixture of 5 to 50 ppm inorganic, reducing phosphorus compounds after polymerisation. This enables the brightener content to be reduced under 10 ppb, and so the end product may also be used in contact with foodstuffs.

  • Patent number: 6726970
Abstract: Self-reinforced, thermoplastically moldable sheets made from poly(meth)acrylate having at least two layers which differ in their filler content. The ratio between the elongation at break of the layer with higher filler content and the elongation at break of the layer with lower filler content is less than 1.5. The poly(meth)acrylate sheets can serve as a semifinished product for producing sanitary items, such as bathtubs, shower trays or washbasins, preferably by thermoforming, without the need for any other reinforcing layers sprayed on or otherwise applied after molding.

  • Patent number: 6655001
Abstract: A diaphragm for an electroacoustic transducer has a) a core layer containing poly(meth)acrylimide foam and b) at least one cover layer. The diaphragm is produced by laminating the cover layer with the core layer, using a pressure of 0.4 MPa and a temperature of 160° C., whereby at least the side of the core layer which comes into contact with the cover layer is compressed. The resultant composite is subsequently cooled to a temperature below 80° C., before the pressure is reduced to the ambient pressure. The process can be carried out as a single-step process. The diaphragms produced by this process demonstrate an excellent stability, whereby the cover layers in particular are highly resistant to separation.

  • Patent number: 6641903
Abstract: A transparent plastic pane of acrylic glass with internal plastic filaments, which largely hold together the fragments formed in the event of a break characterized in that the plastic filaments are at least partly sized. The internal filaments can be sized completely and/or partly, for example in portions. Hereby the matrix adhesion of the filaments can be adjusted to the effect that any fragments which may be formed in the event of break are largely held together by the filaments without permitting undesired detachment of the filaments during thermal stresses in the normal range of −20 to 120° C. The plastic panes are suitable in particular as a noise protection wall.

  • Patent number: 6639099
Abstract: A process for the synthesis and recovery of di(meth)acrylic acid esters at a high degree of purity. Di(meth)acrylic acid esters are produced by transesterfication of (meth)acrylic acid esters of C1 to C4 alcohols with 1,n-diols (where n≧3) in the presence of a zirconium catalyst that comprises a chelate of zirconium with a 1,3-dicarbonyl compound. These catalysts can be readily separated or removed from the reaction mixture by precipitation with phosphoric acid, thus providing a convenient and inexpensive method of producing a di(meth)acrylic acid ester with a reduced level of zirconium.
