Abstract: The invention relates to optical diffuser plates (1) made of transparent plastics such as polycarbonate or polymethacrylate. Several thin strips (2) made of plastic B inserted into plates made of transparent plastic A with the proviso that A and B are incompatible and the strips (2) made of plastic B are subsequently withdrawn. The hollows that are formed in the plate (1) made of plastic A are used to deflect light.

Abstract: Asymmetric (meth)acrylate crosslinking agents may be prepared by reacting a hydroxyacrylate with methacrylic anhydride to give a crosslinking agent with acrylic and methacrylic groups. Asymmetric (meth)acrylate crosslinking agents can be employed in the production of superabsorbers and thickening agents.
Abstract: A photovoltaic element having two plane or curved plates (1) and (2), which are joined by a circumferential seal (3) at a spacing ranging from 2 to 20 mm, thus forming a cavity (4) in which there are enclosed a plurality of photovoltaic cells (5), each of which is attached to only one of the two plates (2) using an adhesive (6), at least this plate (2) being transparent, wherein both plates are made of plastic that is permeable to water vapor and the adhesive with which the photovoltaic cells are attached covers at most 30% of the area of the individual photovoltaic cells can be used for applications such as roofing and illuminating bus stops.

Abstract: A film comprising at least one layer of fluorine polymers and poly(meth)acrylates is prepared by (i) preparing a mixture of fluorine polymer and poly(meth)acrylate; and (ii) extruding the mixture maintained below its gel-forming temperature through the die of an extruder having a filter placed before entry of the mixture into the die, the temperature of the die being maintained higher than the temperature of the composition upon entry into the die but lower than the gel-forming temperature of the mixture, onto a roll having a temperature ≦100° C., thereby forming the at least one layer in the shape of a film.
Abstract: A plate utilizable in a noise protection wall of fragile acrylic glass comprising a plurality of side by side synthetic monofilament plastic threads for embedded in and running along the plate for splinter binding on breakage of the glass wherein, at least one thread has a maximum deviation of 1 mm or more from a theoretical straight line connecting the ends of said thread.

Abstract: A storage stable monomer/polymer composition comprises a component A and a component B. Component A comprises an emulsion polymer formed by the polymerization of 1-99% by weight of a C1-C10 alkyl acrylate, 99-1% by weight of C1-C10 alkyl methacrylate, and 0-0.5% by weight of a first graft component, which is then swollen by a mixture of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and a polymerization initiator. Component B also comprises an emulsion polymer formed by the polymerization of 1-99% by weight of C1-C10 alkyl acrylate, 99-1% by weight of C1-C10 alkyl methacrylate, and 0-0.5% by weight of a second graft component, swollen with at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and a polymerization activator. Curing of the monomer/polymer composition begins only after the water has evaporated from the dispersion. The aqueous monomer/polymer compositions are used as binders for road marking paints, floor coating compositions, coating materials and sealing compositions.
Abstract: A process for the production of hydrogen cyanide is provided, wherein hydrogen cyanide is synthesized by reacting methane or methane-containing natural gas, ammonia and oxygen-enriched air or oxygen in the presence of a catalyst comprising platinum or a platinum alloy; wherein the reactants are present in the following molar ratios 1 [ O 2 ] [ O 2 + N 2 ] = 0.25 ⁢ ⁢ to ⁢ ⁢ 1.0 ; [ CH 4 ] [ NH 3 ] = 0.95 ⁢ ⁢ to ⁢ ⁢ 1.
Abstract: The invention describes a polymer with high transmission for UV rays, this transmission being preserved even after prolonged exposure to UV light (tanning lamps). The polymer is further characterized by a low residual monomer content (determined as methyl methacrylate).
Abstract: A process for the synthesis of hydrogen cyanide by the Andrussow process by reaction of methane or methane-containing natural gas, ammonia and oxygen or oxygen-enriched air on a catalyst at an elevated temperature, wherein 1 O 2 O 2 + N 2 = 0.25 - 1.0 ⁢ ⁢ ( vol / vol ) .
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a copolymer containing a hydrophilic copolymerizable monomer and a plastisol obtained by the use of the copolymer, which exhibits reduced viscosity and longer pot-life.

Abstract: The present invention relates to processes for synthesis of isobornyl (meth)acrylate by reacting camphene with (meth)acrylic acid in the presence of sulfuric acid and at least one compound having inhibiting action. Aqueous sulfuric acid with an acid concentration in the range of 65 to 85 wt % is used. Isobornyl (meth)acrylate can advantageously be distilled from a mixture containing sulfuric acid in the presence of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-&agr;-(dialkylamino)-p-cresol.
Abstract: Flat composites of plastic are manufactured by thermal adhesive bonding of at least two plastic parts which are heated at their surfaces and which comprise a base material coated with a plastic layer, wherein the Vicat softening point of the plastic of layer is 5 to 40° C. lower than that of the base material, wherein the base material has a thickness of 1 to 200 mm and the plastic layer has a thickness of 5 to 400 &mgr;m, and each of the parts is heated on the surfaces coated with the plastic layer and then welded under pressure.
