Abstract: A light-directing apparatus for off-axial preferential-side distribution of light from a light emitter having an emitter axis, including a lensing member positioned over the light emitter a shield member embedded within the lensing member in a position in the path of light emitted toward a non-preferential side. The lensing member having a proximal end substantially transverse the emitter axis and an outer surface configured for refracting light from the emitter. The shield member may be snugly received in a shield-receiving void of an inner surface of the lensing member. Alternatively, the shield member is embedded by the lensing member having been molded thereabout. Another aspect of this invention is a lighting fixture utilizing such light-directing apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20090298376
Abstract: A method for LED-module assembly comprising the steps of providing a base portion with a base inner surface and a cover with a cover inner surface which together define a module interior, the cover having at least one opening therethrough; putting a sealing member into the module interior; positioning an LED lens into the cover opening; aligning an LED emitter and the LED lens within the module interior; sealing the module interior by securing the base portion with respect to the cover. The LED emitter is powered for imaging of the LED module to test light-output characteristics. A specific type of the LED lens is selected and its type and orientation are verified. The step of vacuum testing checks for water-air/tightness of the sealing of LED-module interior. • Patent number: RE40934
Abstract: The improved bollard luminaire has an upwardly directed, elliptical main reflector and a lamp “nested” within such reflector and positioned at or near its lower focal point. An upper cone-shaped reflector receives light from the main reflector and directs it laterally through a transparent lens element. Such element provides a 360° lateral light opening unobstructed by wiring, support posts or the like. Light reflected through such opening is relatively sharply focused along an axis about 70° from vertical. Unreflected light from the lamp which “misses” both reflectors also provides a degree of “uplighting,” often found useful for aesthetic purposes.
