Patent number: 6709746Abstract: Volatile organic compound or other materials are produced in the thermoplastic manufacture of thermoplastic polyester beverage containers. Such materials can be eluted into beverages such as carbonated beverages, sparkling or still water from the polyester. Such thermoplastic polyester resins can be manufactured with a substituted cyclodextrin material that can prevent the formation of, or react with, and absorb volatile by-products during the formation of thermoplastic preforms or containers from the thermoplastic pellet or chip. Further, as the preform is blown into a polyester container, the active materials of the invention prevent the generation of additional undesirable volatile materials. Lastly, the scavenger material can act as a barrier that prevents transport of materials from the exterior of the container into the container contents.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2002Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignees: Arteva North America S.á.r.l., Cellresin Technologies, LLCInventors: Willard E. Publication number: 20040044172Abstract: A preblended additive composition and process for the preparation of polyester resins useful in the manufacture of plastic containers such as bottles is disclosed. The additive composition includes a cobalt-containing compound that is preblended with a phosphorous compound. The polyester resin, e.g., a PET resin, may be prepared by reacting ethylene glycol with dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) or terephthalic acid (TA) in an esterification reaction. The additive composition may be prepared by quickly dumping the phosphorus compound into the cobalt compound such as cobalt acetate, and the resulting composition is added to the reactor vessel before the polycondensation reaction. On the other hand, the additive composition may be prepared by slowly dumping the phosphorus compound into the cobalt compound over a period of at least 5 minutes. Such preblending substantially eliminates any yellow or blue color, or haze in the product article.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2003Publication date: March 4, 2004Applicant: ARTEVA NORTH AMERICA S.a.r.l.Inventors: Rekha V. Patent number: 6609368Abstract: The present invention includes a hydrostatic transmission system that has a control device that is selectable to send a speed signal to a motor for driving an output at a predetermined speed. A controller is used to automatically permit the selected speed signal in response to a predetermined speed signal and predetermined input from a sensing device indicating that the output is being driven in a forward drive condition. The controller is also used to automatically override the selected speed signal in response to a predetermined speed signal and predetermined input from a sensing device indicating that the output is being driven in a reverse drive condition. This invention allows for the speed of the motor to be changed from a high speed to a low speed when the motor is driving the output in a reverse drive condition to achieve greater efficiency and control of a work machine.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2001Date of Patent: August 26, 2003Assignee: Caterpillar S.A.R.L.Inventors: Paul A. Patent number: 6607374Abstract: An apparatus for spinning bicomponent sheath/core filaments such that the filaments are uniformly quenched. The apparatus includes a distributor plate, and spinneret and a shim position between the distributor plate and the spinneret. The spinneret includes a plurality of holes positioned so that the density of holes is the lowest near the center of the spinneret and increases as radially proceed outward. More specifically, the holes are substantially configured in the shape of a parallelogram in which the sides of the parallelogram are all of equal length. Additionally, the shape of the parallelogram is more flat the further the parallelogram pattern is located from the center of the spinneret. In this manner of positioning the holes, filaments therefrom do not significantly impede quench air from uniformly reaching filaments in the outer rows.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2001Date of Patent: August 19, 2003Assignee: Arteva North America S.A.R.L.Inventors: Allan James Hastie, David Wayne Goode, Charles Eugene Justis
