  • Patent number: 5701746
Abstract: A jacket (10) for keeping a transplant (46) cold during the time the transplant in surgical way is connected to a receiver comprises a wall (12, 14) with a cavity (22) containing a frozen liquid, which melts under absorption of heat from the transplant. Before the transplant is placed in the jacket (10), the liquid, e.g. water, is frozen by being subjected to vacuum, vapour released from the liquid being absorbed by a substance, e.g. zeolite.

  • Patent number: 5687747
Abstract: Particles of comminuted smokable material are loosened in a downwardly converging compartment defined by a funnel-shaped array of intermittently driven endless flexible belts. The outlet at the lower end of the compartment delivers flows of loosened material into a receptacle wherein the level of the material is monitored and a motor for the belts is started to admit additional material into the receptacle when the level of material descends below a predetermined minimum level. The bottom portion of the reservoir can be expanded and contracted to convert the lowermost part of material in the receptacle into a succession of properly compacted batches each of which can constitute a rod-like filler, and such batches are thereupon evacuated longitudinally of the bottom portion of the receptacle into successive empty tubular envelopes which can be made of cigarette paper or other wrapping material for rod-shaped smokers' products.

  • Patent number: 5632285
Abstract: Adherent uniting bands are wound around adjacent end portions of successive groups of plain cigarettes and filter mouthpieces having elliptical cross-sectional outlines while the groups are transported sideways through a passage between a rotary conveyor and a stationary rolling member. The peripheral rolling surface of the conveyor has an undulate profile conforming to the outlines of the articles forming the groups and such surface is provided with axially parallel flutes wherein the groups are received during advancement toward the passage. The rolling member has a second rolling surface confronting the peripheral rolling surface across the passage and having a second undulate profile also conforming to the outlines of the articles forming the groups. Successive groups approaching the inlet of the passage are caused to leave their flutes and to roll between the two surfaces during advancement through the passage to thus convolute the uniting bands around the adjacent end portions of the respecive articles.

  • Patent number: 5618056
Abstract: A system to detect certain parameters concerning an auxiliary child seat placed on a passenger seat of a motor vehicle equipped with an airbag protection system. The system uses inductive electromagnetic emitter and receiver circuits located in the passenger seat and at least two resonant circuits provided in the base of an auxiliary child seat. Using the inductive and resonant circuits, the system detects various parameters concerning the child seat. Some of the parameters include the presence of a child seat, whether or not the child seat is occupied, the orientation of the child seat, and the type of child seat present. These parameters are transmitted to an airbag control unit in order to adapt the deployment of the airbag to the specific circumstances as indicated by the inductive and resonant circuits.

  • Patent number: 5530896
Abstract: An automatic determination of an address suitable for a functional unit connected to other similar functional units via a bidirectional communication network. A field of possible addresses are scanned and a status request is transmitted for each address. In response to the request, if an answer is received, this means the address is already allocated, the address is incremented and the process is restarted. If no answer is received, then a second test is performed on the same address. If there is still no answer, meaning the address is available and not taken by another functional unit, the address is adopted.

  • Patent number: 5522913
Abstract: An apparatus for transforming an input garbage mixture into separate fermented and non-fermented output products has a fermentation stage for depositing an input garbage mixture into non-compacted swathes to allow fermentation of the fermentable, organic waste materials therein, an input stage for loading the garbage mixture, and at least one grinder/separator stage having a grinder for grinding the garbage mixture into smaller particles and a separator with a screen of a selected mesh size for separating ground waste particles up to the selected mesh size as a fermented output product, and conveying the remainder of the particles to a reject output as a non-fermented output product. Fermentation of the input garbage mixture allows for organic maturation of the fermentable, organic waste materials in the mixture, as well as softening and rendering the fermented materials more susceptible to being broken up into small particles in the grinder/separator stage.

  • Patent number: 5480591
Abstract: The dynamic diffuser for a naturally diffusing liquid substance such as a perfume comprises a receptacle for said substance and having a vertical flank which is closed by a membrane that is impermeable to liquid but permeable to gas. All or part of the membrane is caused to come into contact with said substance, at least intermittently, by revolving the receptacle about a horizontal axis. Air-flow generating means, e.g. impeller blades, serve to cause air to flow over the outside of the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5467263
Abstract: At one stage of an organization process for a home network, an electrical equipment waits for the designation of another remote electrical equipment in the same network. The waiting equipment transmits a designation request via the network. The electrical equipments affected by the request make their presence known, to an operator, in particular by flashing their indicator lamps. The operator designates one of the equipments by acting on any control of this object. The designated equipment transmits an answer message, which is accepted by the equipment initiating the designation request. The actions on the part of the operator create and organize a home network which is user friendly and simple to set up.

  • Patent number: 5461989
Abstract: The table includes, on the one hand, a flat panel provided on the border thereof with a downwardly projecting skirt, and on the other hand, a frame structure having a downwardly projecting eccentric sectional belt and defining an upwardly open hollow, the flat panel being fixed on the frame structure in order to constitute a top, by first snap-engaging elements cooperating with the frame structure, the eccentric belt of which is fitted with legs. The frame structure is an assembly of section pieces having edges, these section pieces being interconnected but without connection webs, so that the flat panel rests only on the edges of these section pieces; the frame structure further includes a peripheral sectional belt with which the first snap-engaging elements cooperate, this peripheral sectional belt thus forming with the projecting skirt of the panel a thick element which provides a hand grip if the table has to be moved.

  • Patent number: 5447174
Abstract: A pilot stage for pressure control valves includes an axially displaceable valve piston which bounds a valve chamber axially on one side and includes a valve seat for a closure cone therein. Valve piston has an actuating surface in a pressure chamber that is substantially larger than the free cross section of the valve seat. By pressurization of this pressure chamber, a large hydrostatic force is exerted on the valve piston which opposes the closing force of the pressure-setting spring. A housing stop fixes a first axial end position of the valve piston in the direction of this hydrostatic force. The pilot control stage has improved properties for both manually adjustable pressure control valves and proportional pressure control valves.

  • Patent number: 5445188
Abstract: A pilot-operated servo valve design for efficient mounting in a control block has at least three main-stream ports. An opening into a control sleeve for a first main-stream port is disposed opposite an end surface of a main control piston. The main control piston has a pressure-equalizing surface disposed in a pressure-equalizing chamber, which is fluidically coupled by a pressure-equalizing duct in the main control piston to the first main-stream port. A return spring urges the main control piston toward a first axial end stop to clearly define a safety position. The valve exhibits good dynamic properties.
