Abstract: To enable the localizing of a mobile telephone in a network of base transceiver stations, it is planned that the mobile telephone will undertake an exchange with a base transceiver station. In this exchange, this station will send it an absolute time so that the mobile telephone can temporarily locate itself with respect to this absolute time. During this exchange, the first base transceiver station furthermore sends the mobile telephone a piece of information .tau.1 on the distance between them. Then, at least two other base stations send different absolute times which are exploited by the mobile telephone to compute its position in the network by triangulation.
Abstract: The fingerprint sensor device comprises a thin flat transparent support (10) having an outside face for receiving the end of a finger and carrying on an inside face a two-dimensional matrix of photosensitive elements separated by strip-shaped gaps, and a substrate (14) carrying on an inside face light sources for directing light through the support via the strip-shaped gaps and substantially orthogonally to said outside face. The photosensitive elements are protected from the light coming from the sources so as to deliver an output signal only in response to light that has been back-scattered towards the outside face of the support.
Abstract: The device has a stabilization mirror that is angularly steerable about two mutually orthogonal axes, and an optical system for splitting an incoming light beam into at least two channels corresponding to different wavelengths. The stabilization mirror is steerable about a first axis (L) on internal equipment that is itself steerable about a second axis (I) orthogonal to the first and intersecting in an assembly that is steerable on a support about a third axis (C). A servo-control system has a gyroscopic sensor tied to the mirror and controlling steering motors. The system further includes, upstream from the stabilization mirror, and on the path of an incoming beam, a purely catoptric optical system that is stabilized, giving the inlet beam a size on the mirror that is smaller than the size of the inlet pupil of the system.

Abstract: For guiding an airplane to a docking station in an airport, a two-dimensional thermal IR image of a station approach zone is formed from a determined point close to said docking station, Entrance of an airplane into the approach zone and locations of IR features of the landing gear of the airplane are detected on arrival of an airplane. The distance between the airplane and the station is computed from stored characteristics of the landing gear of the airplane expected at the station and from the locations as well as any difference between a current path followed by the airplane and a set path for the airplane to arrive at the docking station in a determined orientation. A system for implementing the method and displaying instructions for the aircraft pilot is also disclosed.
Abstract: A process for producing a coil of wire formed at least partially of substantially frustoconical plies of wires laid against one another in a continuous fashion. Wire is first wound onto a core in a first direction over a first length L which is less than the length of the core. Winding continues in the opposite direction over a second length L-d.sub.1 which is less than length L by an amount d.sub.1, and winding then continues in the first direction over a third length (L-d.sub.1)+d.sub.2 which is greater than said second length L-d.sub.1 by an amount d.sub.2. Winding then continues in the same manner until the desired number of plies is obtained.
Abstract: The mobile cellular telephony terminal includes a radio transmitter/receiver (1) for communicating with base stations of a cellular network, measuring the Doppler velocity of the transmissions originating from the stations and accordingly operating circuits (2) for estimating the velocity of the terminal, by composition of the Doppler velocities, and updating circuits (4, 5) are provided for updating an inertial unit (10) supplying the radio circuit (1) with the position of the terminal, by comparison between a terminal velocity supplied by the unit (10) and the estimated velocity.
Abstract: To measure, in a reference frame, angular displacements of a privileged axis tied to a carrier, angular velocities or angular increments of the carrier are measured about two axes tied to the carrier, which axes are orthogonal to each other and at an angle of about 90.degree. the privileged axis. Said mutually orthogonal axes are caused to rotate at high speed about said privileged axis. The angular positions of said mutually orthogonal axes about the privileged axis are determined continuously relate to a reference position. Their angular displacements are calculated by integrating their angular velocities while taking account of said angular positions of the orthogonal axes about the privileged axis.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for charging a battery from an alternating current voltage which provides voltage to the battery in each direction. The charging current is regulated alternatively in a boost and buck mode as a function of an error (AI) between the instant value of the current and an instant value of a supply current following a pre-determined pattern. The activation of the modes of operation is controlled according to the sign of the error of the current (AI). The present invention also relates to a battery charger for implementing the above charging process. The battery charger has two sub-assemblies for current regulation operating respectively in boost and buck modes, a subtractor for determining the error of current, and a common loop for feeding the sub-assemblies and controlling amplifiers for the activation, depending on the sign of the error.

Abstract: In a method for modifying the resolution of an image obtained by digitising a real image, the digitised image includes a plurality of pixels of a particular intensity. The outlines in the digitised image are studied and isolated and additional pixels are created by interpolation of the intensities of original pixels located on one side of an outline to form an image with a modified resolution. The studying of outlines is achieved by locating, for close pixels, the intensity transitions representative of a gradient exceeding a particular threshold. The method is utilized for modifying the image resolution of facsimile machines.

Abstract: An item of office equipment, such as a facsimile machines, is provided having image analysis and laser printing capabilities with a shared mechanical image scanning apparatus. Embodiments include a single assembly with an analysis head and a laser emitting source disposed facing each other, a revolving mirror interposed between them, and first and second returning mirrors disposed symmetrically with respect to a line along which the analyzing head and the laser emitting source are disposed, such that the revolving mirror is located substantially at a point constituting an operational centre of symmetry of the single assembly. This symmetrical design allows the single analysis/printing assembly to be structurally simple and compact, enables the number of photosensors and LEDs necessary for image analysis to be reduced to as few as one of each, and eliminates the need for analog shift registers, thus decreasing the cost, size and complexity of the device.
