  • Patent number: 5975223
Abstract: The present invention relates to a rock drill bit for rotary crushing machining of rock. The rock drill bit includes legs (10), each of which carry a journal (11) provided with bearing surfaces (27, 28, 34) cooperating via bearing elements with bearing races in a rotatable roller provided with inserts or chisels. Each leg is made from a parent material with substantially homogeneous hardness and each leg comprises a leg tail (30) provided to resist entrance of drill cuttings into the bearings. The bearing surfaces (27, 28, 34) have higher wear resistance than the parent material and the leg tail (30) is at least partly of the same material condition as the bearing surfaces. The invention further relates to a method of manufacturing a rock drill bit.

  • Patent number: 5971672
Abstract: The present invention relates to a milling cutting insert having an upper side, a bottom side, and flank surfaces connecting the upper and bottom sides. At each operative cutting corner there is a projection which is depressed relative to the adjacent main cutting edge and corner cutting edge. At the front upper edge of the projection is the wiper edge that generates the surface on the workpiece. By tipping the cutting insert axially positively and radially negatively, the horizontally located wiper edge may be tipped frontwards into contact with the workpiece, while the vertically located wiper edge is tipped backwardly, so that it does not reach the workpiece. In this way an improved axial clearance is made possible and an undesired groove in the workpiece is avoided, which would otherwise be caused by the vertically located wiper edge.

  • Patent number: 5957629
Abstract: A double-sided milling cutting insert has two parallel main surfaces which are turned 90.degree. relative to each other. Each main surface comprises four operative cutting corners. In each cutting corner there are two bevelled surfaces which are angled relative to the plane of the main surface. Four side surfaces are angled in order to make possible a positive cutting geometry.

  • Patent number: 5950745
Abstract: A button insert for a percussive drill bit comprises a carbide base and a diamond layer bonded thereto. The diamond layer forms a dome-shaped cutting surface which is of symmetrical configuration about a center axis of the insert. A crest portion of the cutting surface has a larger radius of curvature than a peripheral portion thereof. The cutting surface can be formed by numerous radii, or can be of constantly varying radius (i.e., elliptical).

  • Patent number: 5944126
Abstract: A rock drill bit includes at least one leg about which a roller cutter is rotatably mounted. A ring-shaped seal is disposed between an end surface of the leg and a sealing surface of the roller cutter. The seal is arranged coaxially with respect to an axis of rotation of the roller cutter and is formed of an elastic material and a relatively rigid material embedded within the elastic material. The elastic material defines first and second surfaces which engage the leg and the roller cutter, respectively. Either the leg or the seal includes circumferentially spaced recesses which receive respective projections formed in the other of the leg and the seal, for locking the seal to the leg against rotation relative thereto.

  • Patent number: 5943782
Abstract: A chain saw guide bar includes outer side surfaces, a longitudinal groove having side walls, and two edge surfaces. Each edge surface interconnects a side wall and an outer side surface to form therewith inner and outer corners, respectively. To edge-harden the guide bar, the edge surfaces, inner corners, and outer corners are heated above 750.degree. C. Then, the edge surfaces and inner corners are rapidly cooled, i.e, quenched, but the outer side surfaces are cooled more slowly, whereby the inner corners are given a higher hardness than the outer corners.
