  • Patent number: 5395186
Abstract: A milling cutter includes a rotary body and a plurality of recesses spaced around its outer periphery for receiving insert-carrying cartridges. Each cartridge is wedge-shaped and is retained in place by a clamping wedge which is fastened in the respective recess by a clamp screw. Each cartridge has serrations on its rear surface which engage corresponding serrations on the rearward wall of the recess. A locating pin extends between a wall of the recess and a surface of the cartridge. The cartridge carries a spring which is compressed by the clamping wedge such that the spring biases the cartridge against the rearward wall of the recess.

  • Patent number: 5365805
Abstract: A cutting insert is produced by form-pressing and sintering of powder. The insert comprises a top chip surface, a bottom surface, and at least one edge surface extending between the top and bottom surfaces. The edge surface includes at least one relief surface portion which intersects the top surface at an acute angle to form therewith a cutting edge. A grinding operation is performed on the edge surface, but only along a lower portion thereof disposed below the relief surface portion, i.e., only along an area which is to be placed against a locating surface of a machine tool during a cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 5361665
Abstract: A saw blade comprises scratcher teeth which are not set, and shaving teeth which are set. All of the teeth have their leading and trailing lateral edges chamfered. The chamfering of successive teeth occurs at alternate sides of the blade. • Patent number: 5360298
Abstract: A cut-off tool includes a plate-like holder and a cutting insert retained by a clamping arm. The insert has on its underside a V-shaped groove cooperating with a ridge of analogous V-shape on the holder plate. The V-groove has two flank surfaces extending at an obtuse angle to each other. The male edge or V-ridge similarly has two flank sides, each of which is broken by a break line so as to form two part surfaces, the inner part surfaces, located closest to the central portion of the V-ridge, enclosing an obtuse angle which is, on the one hand, greater than the corresponding obtuse angle between the outer two part surfaces and, on the other hand, smaller than the obtuse angle between the flank surfaces of the V-groove.

  • Patent number: 5359772
Abstract: The present invention relates to a roll, comprising cemented carbide and cast iron, and a method for manufacture of the same. The roll may be used for hot or cold rolling. The barrel comprises one or several cemented carbide rings, east by centrifugal casting method into a roll body of an iron alloy. The casting alloy comprises an essentially graphitic east iron, which after the casting contains residual austenitc. This residual austenitc is transformed at subsequent heat treatment step (or steps) totally or partly to mainly bainite under volume increase, with the aim of reducing or totally eliminating the differential shrinkage between the east iron and the cemented carbide as a result from cooling after the casting. The central part of the roll body may alternatively consist of another alloy.

  • Patent number: 5342201
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of manufacturing artificial tooth restorations for natural teeth or implants comprising a ceramic densely sintered, high-strength individual core B with dental porcelain A by powder metallurgical manufacturing methods. The inner surface I of the core B, which will fit against one or more prepared tooth surfaces P or artificial abutments, is manufactured by forming a ceramic powder mixture against a surface of a body at which this mentioned surface is manufactured by registering the surfaces of the prepared teeth or artificial abutments and their mutual relationship with a three-dimensional optical or mechanical reading method directly in the mouth or on a model of, e.g., plaster, after which the registered surfaces are reproduced in an enlarged size, e.g., with a computer-controlled milling machine. The amount of enlargement is calculated from the shrinkage of the ceramic material during sintering to full density and considering the gap for cement.

  • Patent number: 5340248
Abstract: A mechanical chuck for clamping the shank of a tool comprises a receiver having a forwardly open, rearwardly tapering socket. A pull rod is mounted for front-to-rear reciprocation in the socket. The pull rod is connectible to the tool shank. A plurality of pins are mounted in the receiver for front-to-rear movement therein. Rear ends of the pins engage the pull rod. A nut is threaded on the outside of the socket so that when rotated, the nut displaces the pins rearwardly. The pins displace the pull rod and shank rearwardly, so that the shank is tightly engaged in the socket.
