Abstract: A milling cutter includes a rotary body and a plurality of recesses spaced around its outer periphery for receiving insert-carrying cartridges. Each cartridge is wedge-shaped and is retained in place by a clamping wedge which is fastened in the respective recess by a clamp screw. Each cartridge has serrations on its rear surface which engage corresponding serrations on the rearward wall of the recess. A locating pin extends between a wall of the recess and a surface of the cartridge. The cartridge carries a spring which is compressed by the clamping wedge such that the spring biases the cartridge against the rearward wall of the recess.

Abstract: A hydraulic chuck for securing a lathe shaft and cutting tool to a tool holder is provided with spray nozzles to project cooling fluid on the cutting tool.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an etching process for the purpose of removing binder phase from the surface of a hard metal consisting of hard material in a binder phase based on cobalt and/or nickel. By carrying out the etching process electrolytically in a mixture containing concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated phosphoric acid at a volume ratio of 0.5-2 with a water content of <50% at a temperature of 25.degree.-60.degree. C. an even binder phase removal without deep penetration is achieved.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a turning insert that comprises a generally rectangularly shaped body having a front end surface with a main cutting edge at the intersection between the front end surface and an upper land area. A chipforming area is provided in the forward portion of the upper surface and is shaped in the form of a number of distinctly provided recesses and ridges in order to promote improved chip control and to obtain narrower chips in grooving operations.
Abstract: A cutting insert is produced by form-pressing and sintering of powder. The insert comprises a top chip surface, a bottom surface, and at least one edge surface extending between the top and bottom surfaces. The edge surface includes at least one relief surface portion which intersects the top surface at an acute angle to form therewith a cutting edge. A grinding operation is performed on the edge surface, but only along a lower portion thereof disposed below the relief surface portion, i.e., only along an area which is to be placed against a locating surface of a machine tool during a cutting operation.
Abstract: A saw blade comprises scratcher teeth which are not set, and shaving teeth which are set. All of the teeth have their leading and trailing lateral edges chamfered. The chamfering of successive teeth occurs at alternate sides of the blade. The scratcher teeth have sharp points, whereas the shaving teeth are truncated to form oblique top surfaces and to render the shaving teeth shorter than the scratcher teeth.
Abstract: A cut-off tool includes a plate-like holder and a cutting insert retained by a clamping arm. The insert has on its underside a V-shaped groove cooperating with a ridge of analogous V-shape on the holder plate. The V-groove has two flank surfaces extending at an obtuse angle to each other. The male edge or V-ridge similarly has two flank sides, each of which is broken by a break line so as to form two part surfaces, the inner part surfaces, located closest to the central portion of the V-ridge, enclosing an obtuse angle which is, on the one hand, greater than the corresponding obtuse angle between the outer two part surfaces and, on the other hand, smaller than the obtuse angle between the flank surfaces of the V-groove.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a roll, comprising cemented carbide and cast iron, and a method for manufacture of the same. The roll may be used for hot or cold rolling. The barrel comprises one or several cemented carbide rings, east by centrifugal casting method into a roll body of an iron alloy. The casting alloy comprises an essentially graphitic east iron, which after the casting contains residual austenitc. This residual austenitc is transformed at subsequent heat treatment step (or steps) totally or partly to mainly bainite under volume increase, with the aim of reducing or totally eliminating the differential shrinkage between the east iron and the cemented carbide as a result from cooling after the casting. The central part of the roll body may alternatively consist of another alloy.
Abstract: The present invention related to a drill bit (10) for rock drilling, preferably a down-the-hole drill bit, said drill bit (10) including a head (11) and a shaft (12), said head (11) defining a cutting face (14) that carries a number of hard material button inserts (15) having end portions extending outwardly of said cutting face (14), means (16,17) for transporting flushing medium from the free end (13) of the shaft (12) to the cutting face (14) of the head (11), said means for transporting flushing medium including a central passage (16) extending from the free end (13) of the shaft (12) and terminating in the head (11) short of the cutting face (14) and at least one branch passage (17) emanating from the central passage (16) and emerging in the cutting facc (14).In the field of down-the-hole drill bits big volumes of flushing medium, normally compressed air, are used since the flushing medium is also activating the down-the-hole hammer.
Abstract: The present invention provides a tool for bar peeling comprising a rotatable cutter head with circumferentially spaced toolholders each of which is provided with a U-shaped recess along one of its side surfaces. A wedge shaped element is longitudinally displaceable in the U-shaped recess so that an insert carried by the toolholder in subjected to radial adjustment upon a longitudinal displacement of said wedge shaped element.
Abstract: A saw blade for sawing of wood has sides with an uneven synthetic powder lacquer coating with friction properties like the cut wood surfaces to remove the sawdust from the kerf without adhering to either surface. The saw provides lower cutting force and improves the straightness of the cut.
Abstract: The present invention relates to whisker reinforced ceramic bodies with new and improved properties. By replacing the tool pressing with injection molding, surprisingly a more homogeneous structure and more advantageous whisker orientation has been obtained. By choosing the conditions of the molding, it is possible to control the whisker orientation to get optimal material properties. Bodies according to the invention are particularly suitable for chip forming machining of heat resistant materials.
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of manufacturing artificial tooth restorations for natural teeth or implants comprising a ceramic densely sintered, high-strength individual core B with dental porcelain A by powder metallurgical manufacturing methods. The inner surface I of the core B, which will fit against one or more prepared tooth surfaces P or artificial abutments, is manufactured by forming a ceramic powder mixture against a surface of a body at which this mentioned surface is manufactured by registering the surfaces of the prepared teeth or artificial abutments and their mutual relationship with a three-dimensional optical or mechanical reading method directly in the mouth or on a model of, e.g., plaster, after which the registered surfaces are reproduced in an enlarged size, e.g., with a computer-controlled milling machine. The amount of enlargement is calculated from the shrinkage of the ceramic material during sintering to full density and considering the gap for cement.
Abstract: A drill with indexable inserts has one center insert (11) and one peripheral insert (12), said center insert having a symmetric drill point (25) on the drill axis (10) with a transverse edge which is continuous with one short edge (27) and one long edge (21,23) and a screw hole offset from the symmetry axis of the drill point (25) towards the side of the long edge (21,23).
Abstract: A mechanical chuck for clamping the shank of a tool comprises a receiver having a forwardly open, rearwardly tapering socket. A pull rod is mounted for front-to-rear reciprocation in the socket. The pull rod is connectible to the tool shank. A plurality of pins are mounted in the receiver for front-to-rear movement therein. Rear ends of the pins engage the pull rod. A nut is threaded on the outside of the socket so that when rotated, the nut displaces the pins rearwardly. The pins displace the pull rod and shank rearwardly, so that the shank is tightly engaged in the socket.
