  • Patent number: 10448843
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for measuring the flow of fluid (e.g., blood) in vasculature of a human by heating the fluid in a portion of the vasculature and detecting the temperature of fluid in and/or tissue proximate to a downstream portion of the vasculature. The blood is heated by emitting energy through an external body surface into the portion of vasculature. The temperature of the downstream portion of vasculature is detected by an infrared sensor receiving infrared light from the body and/or a temperature sensor in thermally conductive contact with the body. The flow of fluid in the portion of vasculature can be determined by determining a latency between a change in the detected temperature relative to a change in the emitted energy, by determining a difference between the detected temperature and a detected temperature of another portion of the body, or by some other method.

  • Patent number: 10453666
Abstract: RF ion guides are configured as an array of elongate electrodes arranged symmetrically about a central axis, to which RF voltages are applied. The RF electrodes include at least a portion of their length that is semi-transparent to electric fields. Auxiliary electrodes are then provided proximal to the RF electrodes distal to the ion guide axis, such that application of DC voltages to the auxiliary electrodes causes an auxiliary electric field to form between the auxiliary electrodes and the ion guide RF electrodes. A portion of this auxiliary electric field penetrates through the semi-transparent portions of the RF electrodes, such that the potentials within the ion guide are modified. The auxiliary electrode structures and voltages can be configured so that a potential gradient develops along the ion guide axis due to this field penetration, which provides an axial motive force for collision damped ions.

  • Patent number: 10452113
Abstract: A programmable-threshold power supply selector has two power-supply inputs VDD1 and VDD2. The higher of these two voltages is pre-selected as a common supply that powers all transistors and circuitry in the programmable-threshold power supply selector, including substrates under transistors. An open-loop decision circuit is very stable since it uses no feedback. A tunable voltage divider divides VDD1 by a programmable divisor. The divided VDD1 is compared to a reference voltage to generate switch-control signals. The switch-control signals drive the gates of p-channel switch transistors that connect either VDD1 or VDD2 to an output supply voltage. The different programmable divisor values effectively cause VDD1 to be compared to a programmable threshold voltage VTH. The switch transistors switch the output supply voltage to VDD2 only when VDD1 falls below VTH. The output supply voltage remains at VDD1 even when VDD1 falls below VDD2, eliminating unnecessary power switching.
