Abstract: Methods for creating or enhancing a fracture in a subterranean formation include introducing a pad fluid into a formation at a rate and pressure sufficient to create or enhance at least one fracture therein. The pad fluid can include a pad base fluid, micro-proppant particulates, a gas-generating chemical, and an activator, and wherein either the gas-generating chemical or the activator or both are encapsulated. The methods can include placing the micro-proppant particulates, etc. into the fracture; releasing the activator from its encapsulation; reacting the gas-generating chemical and the activator in the fracture so as to generate gas and heat, thereby creating or enhancing at least one microfracture therein; introducing a fracturing fluid into the formation, wherein the fracturing fluid comprises a fracturing base fluid and macro-proppant particulates and placing the macroproppant particulates into the fracture so as to form a proppant pack therein.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for processing insurance claims in a manner that reduces or eliminates a need for an adjuster to visit an insured person or property of the insured person. The method includes receiving a query from an insured regarding a claim and determining if the insured has a mobile device with a video camera capable of streaming video to the insurance claim processing system. If a mobile device capable of streaming video is available, the system generates an electronic invitation to a one-way streaming video session and transmits the electronic invitation to the mobile device. Upon acceptance, the system initiates the one-way video session, receives real-time streaming video, and appends received video from the real-time streaming video to a claim workfile. In alternative implementations, the system can remotely control the camera and other features of the mobile device during the one-way streaming video session.

Abstract: A coating apparatus for coating a perimeter surface of a pipeline. A frame selectively mounts a sprayer on the pipeline. The sprayer can spray fluid along a flow path in a spraying mode and preparation mode. In the preparation mode, a fluid diverter moves into the flow path to divert the fluid delivered from the sprayer away from the pipeline. In the spraying mode, the fluid diverter moves out of the flow path to permit the sprayer to coat the perimeter surface of the pipeline with a curable liquid. A vacuum system can draw a vacuum through the diverter to remove the fluid the sprayer sprays in the preparation mode. The flow path can be located in a spray shroud. The diverter can fluidly couple the vacuum system to the shroud interior in the spraying mode to remove overspray.

Abstract: A system and method of conducting a computer-based, simultaneous, multiple round, descending clock auction for basic generation services (BGS) includes receiving bids by an application server host application for processing bids according to auction rules, for tranche units of BGS products, calculating next round prices, and sending round results to bidders, the subsequent round prices and a notice of the number of tranches bid during the previous round and/or the amount of excess supply offered. When a later round price is less than an earlier one an electronic switch request to switch a bid to another product is received. When the number of tranches bid are equal to or less than a certain threshold for each of the products, the auction may end and bidders are awarded an ending price for each of the products won.

Abstract: A privacy-preserving multi-query parking management system and method. An image of a vehicle with respect to a specific part (e.g., license plate) can be captured when the vehicle enters via an entry point. An image signature can be computed by embedding the image into a descriptor space and the image signature can be stored in a database together with relevant metadata. An image of a vehicle with respect to the specific part can be captured when the vehicle exits via at least one exit point and an image signature can be computed. An entry-exit association with respect to the vehicle can be performed by searching for a most similar image signature in the database. Additionally, given a textual query (e.g., a license plate number), a signature can be computed by embedding the text into the same descriptor space.

Abstract: In a composite component having a laminate body, a conductive layer and a connector can be joined to one another using an intermediate flexible circuit. Among other things, this flexible circuit places the conductive layer and the connector in electrical communication with one another. Furthermore, during the forming process and because of its thinness, the flexible circuit integrates well with the layers of the laminate body and can accommodates some spatial displacement of the connector and conductive material relative to one another.

Abstract: A flue gas desulfurization unit is converted from operating with lime or magnesium enhanced lime under inhibited oxidation into a unit that operates using limestone under inhibited oxidation conditions. A ball mill grinding unit may be installed to crush the limestone thereby producing a suspended slurry of fine limestone particles which is pumped to the reaction vessel. When installed, the ball mill may be installed in the process immediately downstream of the existing slaking equipment. The suspended solution may be maintained at a pH in the range of 3.0 to 6.5, optimally at approximately 5.0 to increase the dissolution rate of the limestone reagent produced by the ball mill. The post-conversion process may also require the addition of organic acids and oxidation inhibitors to achieve better SO2 removal from the flue gas.
