Abstract: Techniques include receiving a design of an integrated computational element (ICE) including (1) specification of a substrate and multiple layers, their respective target thicknesses and refractive indices, adjacent layer refractive indices being different from each other, and a notional ICE fabricated based on the ICE design being related to a characteristic of a sample, and (2) indication of target ICE performance; forming one or more of the layers of an ICE based on the ICE design; in response to determining that an ICE performance would not meet the target performance if the ICE having the formed layers were completed based on the received ICE design, updating the ICE design to a new total number of layers and new target layer thicknesses, such that performance of the ICE completed based on the updated ICE design meets the target performance; and forming some of subsequent layers based on the updated ICE design.

Abstract: A large diameter lay-flat hose spool apparatus has a mobile platform with a chassis and wheels. Side supports extend up from the chassis. An axle bears on the side supports, spanning a gap therebetween. Plural spools are rotatably mounted on the axle. Each spool has at least one rim and a length of lay-flat hose wound thereon. A driver rotates the individual spools about the axle independently of the other spools. The driver has a first actuator that moves a drive wheel into and out of contact with a rim of one of the spools. The driver has a second actuator that moves the drive wheel from one of the spool rims to another of the spool rims. A motor rotates the drive wheel. A controller system operated the motor, the first actuator and the second actuator.
Abstract: Casing removal operations may utilize an analytical model to the estimate the total force to (1) break bonding between a cut casing and the annular materials contained between the cut casing and the surrounding borehole and (2) pull the cut casing upward through the borehole while taking into account frictional forces inside and outside the cut casing, shear forces, and the like. Such models may further predict the casing overpull and total tension needed to extract the cut casing from the borehole. Using these models in conjunction with the specifications of the casing retrieval equipment may allow for determining the cutting depth for producing the cut casing with higher accuracy than previously available.

Abstract: System, methods, and apparatuses for actuating a tool downhole in a wellbore are presented. In one instance, a system includes a hydraulic tool to generate a hydrostatic pressure in a first chamber using a hydraulic fluid. The hydraulic fluid the first chamber is transmitted through a fluid-flow path to a second chamber, which is at lower pressure. The fluid-flow path contains at least one fluid-flow restrictor to cause the flow of the hydraulic fluid to follow a rotational path. A frangible member may be disposed within the fluid-flow path to occlude the path until pressure of the hydraulic fluid exceeds a threshold value.
Abstract: A fiber optic sensor interrogation system with inbuilt passive power limiting capability based on stimulated Brillouin scattering that provides improved safety performance for use in explosive atmospheres.
Abstract: A modular system and process for connecting a first and second tubular. The system may comprise a skid, a tong assembly operatively associated with the skid, a hydraulic power unit, operatively positioned on said skid, a spring assembly that includes spring stands, a frame containing the tong assembly, springs, rods disposed within the spring, and lanyards attached to the rods on a first end and attached to the base on a second end so that vibratory and displacement forces created during torqueing of the first tubular onto the second tubular are absorbed. The system may also include a sensor, operatively positioned on the skid, for sensing an applied torque to the first and second tubular, and generating a sensor signal.

Abstract: A shelf-ready shipper display system having a tray portion, a hood portion, and one or more zones of weakness that enable the hood portion to be separated from the tray portion so that the shipper display system can be converted from a shipping configuration to a display configuration. In certain embodiments, the shipper display system is made from a single blank. In some embodiments, the shipper display system includes a reinforcement panel that is also capable of being separated from the tray portion as the shipper display system is converted from the shipping configuration and to the display configuration.
Abstract: Various embodiments can include apparatus and methods to operate and provide a position-sensitive detector. In various embodiments, a detector may include an illuminating device, a photodetector array, and a number of elemental circuit units, where an arrangement of the number of elemental circuit units with the photodetector array can provide a mechanism to identify a position of a light generating event in the illuminating device. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.
Abstract: A patient support apparatus includes load cells and a controller operable to automatically update a weight offset for use in determining a true patient weight. The controller is configured to receive signals produced by the load cells, determine whether a patient is being supported by a patient support surface of the patient support apparatus, detect movement on the patient support surface, determine a weight of the patient being supported on the patient support surface, determine whether a patient is no longer being supported by the patient support surface, and update a weight offset.
