Abstract: A ferrule includes a body having a cylindrical shape. Elastic gripping portions are arranged on the body so as to bulge radially inwardly. The elastic gripping portions can have elastic contact with the outer circumferential surface of a glass tube. The body of the ferrule is mounted to the glass tube via the elastic gripping portions capable of elastic and radial deformation. Thereby, the variations in outer diameter of the glass tube can be absorbed, and therefore the dimensional control with high precision is not required for glass tubes at the time of manufacturing. This leads to cost reduction.

Abstract: There is provided an optical head which have no such problems regarding increase in cost and size thereof and can reduce errors by suppressing crosstalk components attributable to reflection on lands of a magneto-optical recording medium and thereby prevent degradation of reproduction characteristics. An optical element includes a light separating section for separating outgoing light and return light, and a phase compensation section for imparting phase compensation to light incident thereon. The optical element is provided on a light path of return light between an objective lens and a photodetector, so as to be closer to the photodetector than the light separating section is. This makes it possible to impart the phase compensation to the return light and prevent the degradation of reproduction characteristics. Light separating elements such as beam splitter are no more necessary in the configuration, with the result that decreases in size and cost can be realized.
Abstract: A piezo thin-film diode (piezo-diode) cantilever microelectromechanical system (MEMS) and associated fabrication processes are provided. The method deposits thin-films overlying a substrate. The substrate can be made of glass, polymer, quartz, metal foil, Si, sapphire, ceramic, or compound semiconductor materials. Amorphous silicon (a-Si), polycrystalline Si (poly-Si), oxides, a-SiGe, poly-SiGe, metals, metal-containing compounds, nitrides, polymers, ceramic films, magnetic films, and compound semiconductor materials are some examples of thin-film materials. A cantilever beam is formed from the thin-films, and a diode is embedded with the cantilever beam. The diode is made from a thin-film shared in common with the cantilever beam. The shared thin-film may a film overlying a cantilever beam top surface, a thin-film overlying a cantilever beam bottom surface, or a thin-film embedded within the cantilever beam.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a panel having pixel electrodes arranged at intersections of a plurality of signal lines via switching elements for transmitting display data and a plurality of scanning lines for transmitting control signals, and a control circuit for controlling the panel. The liquid crystal panel is divided into first pixel regions and second pixel regions adjacent to the first pixel regions. The control circuit carries out impulse driving in which the control signals transmitted to each of the scanning lines are activated two times in one frame period for displaying an image. The control circuit writes the display data in either one of the pixel regions and writes reset data in the other pixel regions when the control signals are activated once of the two times. By writing the reset data in the pixel regions, the display data written in an immediately preceding frame are reset.
Abstract: There is provided a charging apparatus having high durability, in which no rusts etc. are generated, and by which a potential of a photoreceptor drum being charged can be controlled stably within an appropriate range for a long period of time owing to hardly impaired controllability of the potential of the photoreceptor drum being charged even with a some amount of contaminants such as toner that may be deposited on, and which is inexpensive as well. A charging apparatus includes a needle electrode, a holding member, two cleaner members, a support member, a moving member, a shield case, and a platy grid. On the surface of the needle electrode is formed a nickel layer containing tungsten.
Abstract: A stagger type thin film transistor substrate in which each of a source and a drain of a thin film transistor has a laminated structure including a silicon semiconductor layer, a silicon semiconductor layer containing impurities, and a metal layer formed in that order and in which a gate insulator of the thin film transistor is formed on the source and the drain. A pixel electrode is connected to the source via a contact hole made in the gate insulator on the source. Additionally, a gate electrode of the thin film transistor formed on the gate insulator has a laminated structure including two layers of different electrode materials. Finally, the pixel electrode connected to the source is made of an electrode material used in a lower layer of the gate electrode.
Abstract: First and second sub-picture element electrodes, a buffer capacitance, and a first to third TFTs are formed in each picture element; the first and second TFTs are driven by a signal supplied to an nth gate bus line; the third TFT is driven by a signal supplied to an (n+1)th gate bus line; the first sub-picture element electrode is connected to the first and third TFTs; the second sub-picture element electrode is connected to the second TFT; a drain electrode of the third TFT is connected to an upper electrode of the buffer capacitance; and a lower electrode of this buffer capacitance is connected to the (n+1)th gate bus line.
Abstract: The present invention provides a three dimensional graphics processing apparatus for performing an anti-aliasing processing in an sufficient manner, without using the conventional area DDA, by using a line buffer as an area for storing display image data to reduce the required memory area, while the increase of the calculation time is restricted by performing calculation suitable for the polygon edge without degrading the precision of the calculation. In the three dimensional graphics processing apparatus, the coordinates of the intersection points between the polygon edge and the scanning lines are calculated from information on the starting vertex and the ending vertex of the polygon edge and information on the scanning lines. The calculation method is changed in accordance with the characteristics of the polygon edge. Further, a blending coefficient for the anti-aliasing process is obtained by calculating an area ratio of an internal region of the polygon occupied within a pixel.
Abstract: A driver circuit 3 feeds a pulse signal to an SSR 2 every half wave of alternating-current power from a commercial power source 4, and thereby separately controls the amounts of emitted light of LED groups 1x and 1y forming an LED unit 1, the LED groups 1x and 1y being connected in parallel in such a way as to point in different directions. That is, a first pulse signal for controlling the duration of light emission of the LED group 1x and a second pulse signal for controlling the duration of light emission of the LED group 1y are fed to the SSR 2 from the driver circuit 3.
Abstract: In an ion generating element according to the present invention, a discharge electrode and an inductive electrode are provided to face each other with a dielectric body therebetween, and a heater electrode for producing heat with Joule heat generated by electrification and the inductive electrode are provided independently on the same surface of the dielectric body. Further, the heater electrode and the inductive electrode are connected and positioned such that a heater current does not flow into the inductive electrode. Thereby, it is possible to appropriately set a size or a shape of the inductive electrode according to a condition at low costs, allowing stable and effective discharge.
Abstract: A portable phone has a main LCD and a SW-LCD, provided on a path of light to be transmitted by the main LCD, which electrically switches between (i) an image to be seen in a single image display mode and (ii) an image to be seen in a multiple image display mode. In the multiple image display mode, the display switch makes it possible that (a) the image displayed by the image display is seen from a front direction and (b) an image obtained by superimposing, onto the image displayed by the image display, a switching image formed by the display switch is seen from an oblique direction. The switching image is formed by providing, with at least one of a pair of transparent electrode films for applying a voltage to a liquid crystal layer, a patterning having an area larger than 50% of an area of a display screen.

Abstract: A driver circuit of a display apparatus is provided with a nor circuit in each output line of a timing pulse. To the nor circuit, inputted are a timing pulse to be supplied to the output line and a pre-charge pulse for pre-charging a data signal line SL to which a write signal is being inputted based on the timing pulse. With this structure, it is possible to realize a driver circuit storing a pre-charge circuit of a display apparatus, which can surely prevent a collision between a pre-charge potential and a potential of a video signal in a signal supply line when pre-charging the signal supply line from a pre-charge power supply of a small driving performance, while maintaining the number of stages in the shift register to be the required minimum number.

Abstract: A method for repairing a glass substrate is a method for repairing a glass substrate (10) having a depression (60) formed in a display region (5). Into the depression (60), plural types of starting material from which a cross-linked epoxy resin or a cross-linked (meth)acrylic resin is made are put together with a photoinitiator, and the starting materials thus put are copolymerized by light irradiation and heat treatment. In the result, the depression (60) in a surface of the glass substrate (10) is repaired by a transparent resin (65) obtained through the copolymerization of the plural types of starting material. Therefore, the glass substrate (10) can be repaired at a low temperature without performing a sintering process.

Abstract: In general, when a user views an image displayed on a display apparatus, visual environments, such as ambient brightness, a distance from the user to the display apparatus and so on, may disadvantageously cause the image displayed on the display apparatus to become difficult to view. Moreover, it is complicated and troublesome for the user to enter information of ambient light amount and others when setting a picture quality. An image display apparatus holds both question constituent information related to visual environments and choice information serving as answers to questions constituted by the question constituent information, and further holds a plurality of picture quality control rules suitable for visual environments assumed in accordance with the choice information serving as the answers.
Abstract: The objective of the present invention is to manage reference movies using an index file, without causing the user to be perplexed. The reference movies are generated because of, for instance, the upper limit of the file size. The index file manages sets of information regarding the files being managed. Examples of these sets of information are information for determining whether or not a file is presented to the user, information for determining whether or not a file is original, and information indicating whether or not nondestructive editing has been done. Based on such information, the erasure, displaying a list, and so on are carried out. Thus, it is possible to manage the reference movies using the index file, without causing the user to be perplexed.

Abstract: When N kinds of foreground identifiers for identifying color information of a foreground of a color image is to be reduced to M smaller than N, foreground identifiers corresponding to similar chromatic colors are merged and foreground identifiers corresponding to similar achromatic colors are merged but a foreground identifier corresponding to a chromatic color and a foreground identifier corresponding to an achromatic color are not merged. Thus, image quality degradation derived from color change from an achromatic color to a chromatic color or vice versa may be suppressed. On the basis of a foreground layer including the M kinds of foreground identifiers, M binary images respectively corresponding to the M kinds of foreground identifiers are generated, each of the binary images is subjected to lossless compression and a background layer is subjected to lossy compression.
