  • Patent number: 7749575
Abstract: The invention relates to a liquid crystal display utilizing a vertically aligned state of liquid crystal molecules when no voltage is applied and to a method of manufacturing the same. The invention is aimed at providing a liquid crystal display and a method of manufacturing the same in which the existing step for forming vertical alignment films can be omitted to achieve a cost reduction. The liquid crystal display includes a monofunctional monomer having a structure expressed by X-R (where X represents an acrylate group or a methacrylate group, and R represents an organic group having a steroid skeleton). A liquid crystal material is sandwiched between substrates which is then irradiated with ultraviolet rays to cure the monofunctional monomer, thereby forming a polymer film at an interface of a substrate. The monofunctional monomer has a hydrophobic skeleton such as an alkyl chain and a photoreactive group on one side of the skeleton.

  • Patent number: 7748693
Abstract: A sheet carrying device includes a pickup roller sending out a sheet to a carrying path one by one from a document mounting tray, a roller first driving motor rotating the pickup roller, a control section controlling the roller first driving motor, and a slip detecting device detecting whether the pickup roller slips in an amount not less than a predetermined amount in carrying the sheet. Detecting that the pickup roller slips, the control section controls the roller first driving motor to perform a slip-settling operation for decreasing a start-up acceleration of the pickup roller from a time when starting to rotate to a time when reaching a predetermined speed. This allows reliably carrying a sheet and suppressing a decrease in a carrying speed of the sheet in order to prevent a decrease in a speed of a process including sheet carrying, even when the pickup roller slips in feeding the sheet from the sheet mounting tray.

  • Patent number: 7750894
Abstract: A first arithmetic section is provided that calculates a first time, which is a time period from a transmission timing of a ultrasonic wave to a reception recognized timing at which a wave height value of the ultrasonic wave received by an ultrasonic wave receiving section crosses a predetermined threshold for a first predetermined number of times. A second arithmetic section is provided that calculates a second time as the propagation time of the ultrasonic wave, the second time being a time period from the transmission timing of the ultrasonic wave to a reception confirmed timing, which is a timing after the wave height value has crossed the predetermined threshold for a second predetermined number of times and before the wave height value crosses the predetermined threshold again, wherein the second arithmetic means varies the second predetermined number according to the first time. In this way, coordinates of a pointing device employing ultrasonic wave can be obtained with less error variation.

  • Patent number: 7751556
Abstract: Data to be encrypted (301) is partially extracted successively. A result of encrypting a previously extracted portion of the data is used to successively calculate that of encrypting the currently extracted portion of the data successively. Successively calculated results of the encryption are used to generate encrypted data (305). In generating the encrypted data, a finally calculated result of the encryption (PF(z+1)) is attached to the generated encrypted data. The finally calculated result is used as falsification detecting data (308) for detecting whether the data to be encrypted is falsified data.
