Abstract: A neurotrophic electrode system includes a non-conductive cone, a multi-channel electrode assembly, a dielectric ribbon and a neurite-attracting substance disposed within the cone. The non-conductive cone consists essentially of a material that is stable in a neural environment and defines a cavity. The cavity opens to a small opening at a first end of the cone and opens to a large opening at a second end of the cone that is opposite the first end. The multi-channel electrode assembly includes at least two recording sites that are disposed within the cavity defined by the cone. Each recording site is coupled to a wire that extends out of the large end of the cone. Each wire ends in a connection pad. The dielectric ribbon encases all of the wires but exposes each recording site and exposes each connection pad.

  • Patent number: 9521579
Abstract: A method for selection of a particular modulation coding selection (MCS) from a plurality of available MCS selects a particular MCS after obtaining SNR_d, SNR_high, SNR_low, and if SNR_d>SNR_high, selecting the highest available MCS, and if SNR_d<SNR_low, selecting the lowest MCS, and if SNR_high>SNR_d>SNR_low, selecting MCS based on computing the function/table for each MCS according to the formula: f(MCS)=(1?PER(length_packet,MCS,SNR_d))/length_packet(packet_size,MCS), and thereafter selecting the MCS that maximizes the f(MCS) function. Further the neighboring MCS values are characterized for throughput in a throughput characterization step, and compared in throughput to the above determined throughput.

  • Patent number: 9474488
Abstract: A neural sensor includes a substrate defining an array of vias passing therethrough, a plurality of conductive surfaces, a light source, a plurality of groups of quantum dot-based luminescence units and a charge-coupled device (CCD) array. Each via allows a neurite to grow therethrough. Each conductive surface is adjacent to a different via and is electrically coupled thereto. The light source directs light toward the substrate. Each group of quantum dot-based luminescence units extends upwardly from a different one of the conductive surfaces generates light at a different predetermined wavelength when excited with light from the light source. Each luminescence unit changes its luminescence when electrically stimulated by a neural potential generated by a neurite. The CCD detects luminescence from each of the plurality of groups of quantum dot-based luminescence units and generates a signal representative of intensity of each wavelength of light detected.

  • Patent number: 9478859
Abstract: A printed circuit tri-band antenna has a feedline region and a radiating structure region which provides RF emissions in a lowband (LB) RF frequency, a lower highband (HB-L) frequency, and a upper highband (HB-U) frequency. The feedline region is formed of conductors on an upper plane, the conductors including a feedline which is edge coupled to left and right ground structures. The feedline couples directly to a HB-U radiating structure, and includes a stub. The HB-U structure and stub also provide edge coupling through a gap for coupling RF into a combined HB-L and LB radiation structure, which provides frequency-dependent paths for radiating RF energy at the HB-L and LB frequencies. The antenna is preferably used with 2.35 Ghz LB, 5.07 GHz HB-L, and 5.57 Ghz HB-H.

  • Patent number: 9477292
Abstract: A wake-up processor for a communications processor has a receive signal amplifier for amplifying the signal level of received RF which has been transmitted as wireless local area network WLAN packets, an amplitude detector for indicating the envelope of the RF energy in the packets, a threshold detector which thresholds the detected RF envelope, and a correlator which compares the detected and thresholded RF envelope with a private pseudo-random number to determine the level of correlation between the received value and the private value. When the correlation exceeds a required threshold, a wake-up signal is asserted which is used to bring a WLAN processor into an active state for processing of subsequently sent packets.

  • Publication number: 20150260840
Abstract: A traffic radar system utilizes a standard USB interface of power and communication to a host USB device. Modules of the radar system communicate over a wireless network to reduce hard-wire cabling in the patrol vehicle or radar platform. Digital signal processing (DSP) is utilized in a distributed processing architecture to increase processing functionality and target detection capabilities. The system modules incorporate electrical and mechanical interfaces which allow modules to be connected together to form unique radar systems.

  • Patent number: 9007969
Abstract: A wireless LAN station having a MAC address and receiving beacon frames indicating a beacon interval selects a sub-interval from the beacon interval for transmission and reception of wireless signals. The beacon sub-interval used by each set of stations for transmission and reception is preferably ½n of the beacon interval, where n is the number of device-unique assignment bits, such as MAC address. Each station thereby self-assigns itself one of the sub-intervals as a segment for transmission and reception, thereby reducing collisions and re-transmissions in a congested access point.

  • Patent number: 8971210
Abstract: A configurable network adapter has N analog front ends, each generating a receiver output and a transmitter input. In a first mode of operation, the analog front end receiver outputs are coupled to a MIMO equalizer, which is coupled to an outer receiver and to a first MAC input, with the first MAC having an output coupled to an outer transmitter, a MIMO modulator, and to the analog front end transmitter inputs. In a second mode of operation, one or more of the analog front ends is directed to a SISO modulator fed by a second outer transmitter coupled to a second MAC transmitter output. An associated one or more of the analog front end receivers is coupled to a SISO equalizer, and thereafter to an outer receiver and to the second lower MAC, thereby providing a first mode for a single MIMO adapter and a second mode for a MIMO plus independent PAN interface.

  • Patent number: 8937968
Abstract: A station or access point has a list of associated stations including a BSSID. During an observation period, measurements of RSSI are made for each BSSID, including a maximum RSSI and a minimum RSSI. After the observation interval, an RSSI_threshold is computed which is below the weakest RSSI of a station which is on the list of associated stations, and also above the weakest RSSI of a station which is not on the list of associated stations. During packet reception, packet acquisition starts when the receiver signal level is detected to be above the RSSI_threshold. During packet transmission, a clear channel assessment (CCA), which ordinarily prevents transmission when signal energy is detected, is overridden if the measured RSSI is below the RSSI_threshold value, enabling earlier transmission of the packet than if the transmitter were to wait for CCA to be asserted.

  • Patent number: 8934620
Abstract: Methods and devices for improved echo cancellation in high noise environments, such as in-car speakerphones and the like, are provided that improve cancellation convergence in a high noise environment and in the presence of double talk. A new update method enables a robust echo canceller to update with reduced concern for the canceller being in a receive state or a double talk state. If a signal generated by a local talker is substantially the same as high noise, in terms of corruption of the echo canceller, the echo canceller converges in a robust manner even with continuous high noise at the input.
