  • Patent number: 4982794
Abstract: The installation combines with at least one production well-head an oil/gas separator of substantial vertical elongation and of which the major part may be housed in a pit sunk and lined closed to the working well, which permits of wide fluctuations in the oil/gas level between the high and low control points while ensuring sufficient submersion of the pump with which the separator is equipped. This apparatus makes it possible separately to draw off the gas on the one hand and the sufficiently degasified oil on the other, from a peripheral site to a central production station.

  • Patent number: 4983768
Abstract: Phosphinamides are prepared by the action of an organic halide on an oxazaphospholidine. Depending upon the configuration desired for the stereoisomer to be obtained, an oxazaphospholidine is utilized which has been derived from a (+) or (-) optically-active amino-alcohol. These phosphinamides are useful for the preparation of phosphinates, in particular optically-active phosphinates of known absolute configuration; for this, the phosphinamide is subjected to alcoholysis.

  • Patent number: 4980146
Abstract: Process for removing sulfur compounds contained in a residual gas with recovery of said compounds in the form of sulfur, wherein a gas obtained from a residual gas containing H.sub.2 S and SO.sub.2 and having a temperature lower than 160.degree. C. is subjected to a catalytic CLAUS reaction phase with deposition of sulfur on the catalyst and periodic regeneration of the sulfur-laden catalyst and cooling of the regenerated catalyst. The gas brought in contact with the CLAUS catalyst is produced by subjecting the residual gas to a hydrogenation and hydrolysis treatment to provide the sulfur compounds in the unique form of H.sub.2 S and to cooling with water separation by condensation and then to catalytic oxidation of H.sub.2 S in CLAUS stoichiometry with cooling of the gas stream obtained from the oxidation step under 160.degree. C. in order to separate the sulfur by condensation. Application to the purification of the residual gases emitted by CLAUS sulfur plants.

  • Patent number: 4968319
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for manufacturing a double-layer electrolyte/electrode electrochemical sub-assembly comprising a positive composite electrode layer and a superimposed electrolyte layer, said layers each containing an ionically-conducting macromolecular material and having at their interface a physical and chemical continuum between the macromolecular material of the electrolyte and that of the electrode, and the sub-assembly so obtained. The process consists in depositing one of the layers on a support from a fluid phase containing the constituents of this layer, partially cross-linking the layer, and then spreading the other layer on this partially cross-linked layer from a fluid phase containing the constituents of the other layer and capable of dissolving the macromolecular material of the first layer deposited on the support. Application of the double-layer sub-assembly to the fabrication of electrochemical cells in the form of thin layers.

  • Patent number: 4968934
Abstract: Method and apparatus for the measurement of the displacement, and if desired, the force on movable equipment in the production pipe of a pumped well, for example, a pump rod or sucker rod near the pump at the bottom of a well. The force on the rod is measured with a load sensing device connected to a lower rod. The displacement is measured by creating equally spaced apart magnetic marks or poles on the internal wall of the production pipe, detecting the marks, and then erasing the marks, so they do not interfere with marks created and detected when the direction of displacement is reversed. A new mark is created each time a mark is detected, and the equal displacement distance between detected marks is compared with the corresponding elapsed time to determine the displacement and velocity of the rod. A diagram of force-displacement can be made from the measurement data to enable the pump, or other movable equipment to be operated at optimum conditions.

  • Patent number: 4937558
Abstract: A device and system for detecting the existance of fluid flow from a fluid source to a pipeline includes a cylinder with an inlet at a first end and a lateral outlet. A piston in the cylinder is moveable from a no-flow position abutting the first end in which it is maintained by a spring, to a flow position in which the piston at least partly opens the lateral outlet, by fluid flowing from the inlet to the lateral outlet. A magnetic switch detects the no-flow position of the piston, and actuates a radio transmitter to send a no-flow condition alarm. • Patent number: 4937007
Abstract: A process for inhibiting the deposit of paraffins in crude oils and petroleum fractions incorporating additives of the family of N-substituted succinimide ethers. The additives according to the invention make it possible, on the one hand, to maintain in dispersion the whole range of paraffins improving the flowing properties of crude oils and, on the other, to prevent the deposit of the heavier paraffins on the walls. Therefore, the process is effective during both the storage and the transportation of crude petroleum.
