The inner envelope is made from a substantially gas impermeable first material having a first thickness and defines an interior having a pressure of less than or equal to about 30 millibar. The outer bag is made from a substantially gas impermeable second material having a second thickness. The outer bag encapsulates the inner envelope.
Abstract: A core for winding sheet material is proved. The core comprises a cylindrical tube having a longitudinally oriented slot formed therein, and a strip of soft material located in the slot. Because of the geometry of the slot and the strip, the strip may be softer in the central region but firmer where the core transitions from the relatively soft strip to the relatively hard tube. The leading edge of the sheet material imbeds itself into the soft central region of the strip as additional layers are wound around the core.
Abstract: A multiple shelf display hutch is provided that can be made from a single die cut blank. The blank comprises three or more vertical panels separated by vertical fold lines, the number of vertical panels equaling the number of sides of the hutch. The hutch may have three sides, four sides, six sides or any suitable number of sides. The layers/shelves may be vertically arranged so that their sides align vertically or may be offset from each other (rotated horizontally with respect to each other) in what may be referred to as “twisted” configuration.
Abstract: A blister package is formed for retaining individual products. The package includes a receptacle substrate having a sealing flange and at least one receiving cell formed to retain product therein. A polymer top layer covers the cell and a portion thereof is sealed to the sealing flange. A score pattern is formed in at least one surface of the top layer and overlapping the cell. The score pattern is defined by a first plurality of score lines formed in a repeating pattern and a second plurality of score lines formed in a repeating pattern. The first and second plurality of rows overlap one another to define a plurality of intersections, with the overall score line pattern having a total linear length of the score lines per cell of at least 5 inches and a total number of score line intersections per cell of at least 10.

Abstract: A display hutch is provided that can be made from three components adhered together to form a flat compact structure suitable for shipping. The compact structure can be positioned upright and quickly converted into the display hutch having uninterrupted side panels suitable for graphics. A top tray may be mounted on top.
Abstract: A one-way valve integrated into a lamination of the kind used as a membrane seal for coffee containers and the like. The valve comprises a top layer, a substrate and a fluid polyol film. The top layer and the substrate are adhered together by an adhesive disposed between the top layer and the substrate. The adhesive defines a boundary of a valve chamber in which the top layer and the substrate are not permanently adhered to each other. The film enhances the adhesiveness of the top layer to the substrate in the area of the valve chamber so that gas inside the container does not escape until the internal pressure reaches a minimum value.
Abstract: A sound reducing shroud for use with an appliance or other machine is provided. The shroud comprises a body made from foam. The body has a sidewall having a discontinuous circumference, a first vertical end and an opposing second vertical end. The body can be resiliently flexible so that the body is re-configurable between an open position in which the first vertical end and the second vertical end are spread apart to accommodate installation of the shroud around the machine, and a closed position in which the first vertical end and the second vertical end mate to form a seam. Alternatively, the body can comprise a first half shell and a second half shell that fit together to make a shroud around the machine. The first half shell and the second half shell can be designed to snap fit together, or can be held together using fasteners or strapping.
Abstract: A hollow cylindrical tube having an outer surface coated with one or more inks is provided, each ink encapsulated in capsules that rupture under one or more specific loading conditions to display a visually perceptible color. The tube may be used to determine the load capabilities of the tube, to optimize the tube construction and to determine load magnitudes of windable materials and/or the winding process.
Abstract: An improved core for mounting on one or more core engaging elements such as a pair of chucks and a method of making an improved core are provided. The core is adapted to wind and unwind material thereon. The core comprises a high coefficient of friction coating disposed on the inner surface of the core to improve core-chuck interaction.

Abstract: A two piece winding core assembly is provided having a first core portion and a second core portion. The two core portions having the same construction and are positionable to combine together to form a completed cylindrical and hollow core. The two core portions having a series of locking pins and a corresponding series of receiving openings formed on opposing end faces. A series of axially elongated projections and a corresponding series of axially elongated channels are also formed on the opposing end faces of the core portions. An internal plurality of web members is formed in a structural crossing pattern on the inside surface of the core portion, with the web members providing structural rigidity to the core portions.
Abstract: A system and method for forming a biopolymer roll stock for a biopolymer form-fill-sealed package, the biopolymer roll stock includes at least one biopolymer resin; and at least one additive, the additive including at least one impact modifier between 5-50 weight % of the total weight of the additive; and at least one polymer color concentrate between 5-50 weight % of the total weight of the additive, whereby the biopolymer roll stock has a predetermined thickness and impact resistance.

Abstract: A ready-made wrapper that can be used at home to wrap an article such as a snack bar and a method of making same is provided. The wrapper is a precision scored laminate comprising a flexible bottom layer adhered to a flexible top layer at least in part by a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA). In one embodiment the bottom layer is scored so that one or more peripheral portions of the bottom layer can be removed and discarded, leaving a wrapper having an adhesive perimeter. After an article is placed in the center of the wrapper, the wrapper can be folded around the article to create an airtight package.
Abstract: A packaging container for holding contents such as fresh food. The container comprises a tray having a flange, a pre-formed sealing ring and a flexible film for sealing in the contents of the tray. The sealing ring is made from fiber, filament or tape (“FFT”) that is shaped into a shape that matches the shape of the tray flange. The sealing ring is adhered to the tray flange by heat welding or other means and the flexible film is adhered to the sealing ring.
Abstract: A tamper evident tag is provided having a sealant layer, and ink layer and an oxygen barrier layer. The tag may be a film-based tag incorporating a color shifting ink layer located in the sealant layer and a bar code in the ink layer. The tag may be placed over one or more perforations in the bottom end covering of a container. When the container is opened, air enters the interior of the container, passes through the perforations and into the sealant layer. When air reaches the color shifting ink layer, it changes to a color the same as or similar to the bar code, rendering the bar code illegible.
Abstract: A flexible container that can be affixed to a vertical surface such as a shower wall is provided. The container comprises a wall and a substrate affixed to the wall. The substrate may define a plurality of integrally formed recesses that can create a suction fit with the vertical surface.
Abstract: Embodiments relate to an additive for a biopolymer article, a method for forming the additive and biopolymer articles and sheeting containing or formed using the additive. The additive includes at least one impact modifier between 10-90 weight % of the total weight of the additive; at least one polymer color concentrate between 5-50 weight % of the total weight of the additive; and at least one carrier resin between 5-50 weight % of the total weight of the additive.

Abstract: A two piece thermoformed container comprising a tray and a lid for holding a product or products is provided. The container is portable, recloseable and provides easy access to the contents. The tray includes a front wall, rear wall and opposing side walls. The lid is moveable in a sliding fashion between a fully closed position in which the lid is substantially aligned with the tray and an opened position in which the contents of the tray are accessible. The tray has a flat top wall that can be sealed with flexible film.
