Patent number: 5608802Abstract: A data ciphering device that has special application in implementing the Digital European Cordless Telephone (DECT) standard data ciphering algorithm which requires a lengthy procedure of key loading and logic operations during the stages of pre-ciphering and ciphering which require clocks operating at different frequencies. The device performs parallel mode loading of the shift registers, with a ciphering keyword. It also calculates, in a first cycle, during the pre-ciphering, the values of the bits of each shift register that determine the value of the next shift in order to, in a second cycle, effect parallel mode shifting in these registers with a value equal to the sum of the two previous shift values. During the ciphering process, the shifting is done in the registers, in parallel mode and in a single data clock cycle, with a value equivalent to the serial value obtained by the algorithm.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1994Date of Patent: March 4, 1997Assignee: Alcatel Standard Electrica S.A.Inventor: Manuel J. Patent number: 5605027Abstract: An inline packaging machine for folding the flaps of a paper board tray blank around a group of articles loaded on the bottom panel of the tray has provision for emergency shut-down whereby any glue applied to the side flaps of the tray will not set before the tray is completely formed. Moveable side flap folding means is provided at the glue station itself for this purpose. The said emergency flap folding means also serves to support the tray end flaps during gluing. The compression section of the machine that normally applies pressure to the glued flaps includes an inlet portion that is re-configured during emergency shut-down for the same purpose, that is to assure that the flaps are completely folded as the glue sets. The glue station and compression section are mounted on beams that are movable toward and away from one another to accommodate trays of various width.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1995Date of Patent: February 25, 1997Assignee: Standard-Knapp, Inc.Inventors: Daniel J. Patent number: 5605658Abstract: A locating and fastening protrusion extending from a back surface of a vehicle trim strip or molding strip being integrally formed with thermoplastic material of the molding strip. The protrusion is formed by applying a hollow heated die cavity against the thermoplastic back surface of the molding strip. The heated die cavity causes the thermoplastic material to melt and as the die cavity is applied against the molding member, the melted thermoplastic material is forced into the die cavity. The die cavity is then cooled such that the material within the die cavity solidifies. The die cavity is removed such that an integral protrusion is left extending from the molding member.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1994Date of Patent: February 25, 1997Assignee: The Standard Products CompanyInventor: Mark Remington

Patent number: 5602995Abstract: Method and apparatus for buffering data packets in a data communication controller environment. In general, the communication controller is interfaceable with a host processor and includes a control unit for accessing a communication medium. Each data packet to be transmitted or received is assigned a unique packet number. Packet number assignment is carried out by a memory management unit which dynamically allocates to each assigned packet number, one or more pages in data packet buffer memory for the storage of the corresponding data packet. If requested storage space is unavailable at the time of request, the memory management unit will allocate a page or pages to an available packet number as the pages become free. Upon issuing the assigned packet number, the physical addresses of the allocated pages of buffer memory storage space are generated in a manner transparent to both the host processor and the control unit.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1994Date of Patent: February 11, 1997Assignee: Standard Microsystems CorporationInventors: Ariel Hendel, Kenneth W. Patent number: 5599464Abstract: A calibration target for topographic inspection instruments, operating at sub-micrometer resolution levels, having features on the order of 10 Angstroms in vertical height, an atomic scale distance. The features are formed on a silicon substrate, such as a wafer, by deposition of a thick oxide, such as a typical thermal oxide, over the wafer surface. A pattern of features is patterned and etched to the level of raw silicon at the wafer surface. Areas which have been etched are converted to a thin oxide, which slightly lowers the level of silicon in these areas. All oxide is removed and the slightly lower level of silicon gives rise to features having atomic scale vertical topographic dimensions. Millions of such features are produced simultaneously on a wafer to mimic the effect of haze or micro-roughness on a polished wafer.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1995Date of Patent: February 4, 1997Assignee: VLSI Standards, Inc.Inventors: Ellen R. Patent number: 5599072Abstract: A process for braking a vehicle and braking system for carrying out that process are disclosed. As braking begins, a start-braking signal is produced. A signal indicating a vehicle deceleration requirement and a signal indicating the actual vehicle deceleration are also produced. At the time the start-braking signal is produced, a control unit sets an initial vehicle declaration signal equal to the signal indicating the actual vehicle deceleration. Thereafter, the control unit actuates at least one brake of the vehicle when the value of the signal indicating the actual vehicle deceleration is different from the sum of the signal indicating the vehicle deceleration requirement and the initial vehicle deceleration signal.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1992Date of Patent: February 4, 1997Assignee: WABCO Standard GmbHInventor: Joachim Feldmann
