  • Patent number: 5544323
Abstract: In a fast Ethernet, each station is connected to the hub by four unshielded twisted pairs. A first pair is transmit only for the station and receive only for the hub, a second pair is transmit only for the hub and receive only for the station, and the third and fourth pairs are bidirectional. Both the station and the hub use their transmit only and the bidirectional pairs for data transmission and their receive only pair for collision detection.

  • Patent number: 5540036
Abstract: In a packaging machine the articles to be packaged are handled by escapement means that generate gaps between successive articles in each column. The escapement means includes at least two pin conveyors, each of which is driven at a speed which is controlled whereby to permit varying the pitch distance between the pins of each of these two conveyors in order to accommodate a different number of and differently sized articles. The articles are separated by a take away conveyor driven at a slightly greater speed than the pin conveyors to create gaps between the adjacent rows of articles. Partitions may be fed into these gaps, and other gaps are used to permit entry of a flight bar grouper conveyor that ultimately groups the articles so as to create a desired pack pattern for loading.

  • Patent number: 5537835
Abstract: A system for transferring a refrigerant from a first refrigerant vessel having at least one refrigerant port to a second refrigerant vessel having at least one refrigerant port is disclosed. This system includes a condenser, a pump assembly having an inlet and an outlet, and conduits for operatively connecting the condenser and pump assembly to the first and second refrigerant vessel in several configurations. The pump assembly includes two pumps operated by one motor and interconnected to either provide series or parallel pumping. This system may also include a transfer tank interposed between the first and second refrigerant vessels. The transfer tank can be used to condense the vapor phase of the refrigerant removed from the first refrigerant vessel and collect the condensed refrigerant in one configuration, then to transfer the condensed refrigerant to the second refrigerant vessel in an alternate configuration.

  • Patent number: 5537830
Abstract: A method of controlling the operation of a centrifugal compressor in a water chiller system. The compressor's capacity is variable by modulating its speed of rotation or by modulating its inlet guide vane's position. The water chiller includes an evaporator having a leaving water temperature. The method comprises the steps of: monitoring the leaving water temperature; determining if the leaving water temperature is in a steady state; modulating the compressor capacity by modulating speed of rotation if the leaving water temperature is in a steady state; and modulating the compressor capacity by modulating inlet guide vane position if the leaving water temperature is not in a steady state.

  • Patent number: 5535681
Abstract: A bridge plate assembly for use in moving vehicles between rail cars for loading and unloading is of sufficient width to accommodate vehicles of varying wheelbase and includes relatively movable telescopic bridge panel members. One of the panel members has top and bottom face layers bonded to an intermediate low density core. The other panel member is in the form of a hollow shroud which in part encloses the first identified panel member. The relatively movable panel members are biased toward maximum extension and there is a stop for limiting the extension of the panel members.

  • Patent number: 5533875
Abstract: The flow, use, interaction and separation of lubricant and gas flowing through the suction pressure portion of a low-side refrigeration scroll compressor is managed by the use of a drive motor mounting sleeve (46) and a multi-ported frame (40). The mounting sleeve and frame provide for the direction of oil to surfaces within the low side of the compressor shell which require lubrication as well as the conduct of suction gas to the scroll compression mechanism in a manner which cools the compressor drive motor yet which maintains the respective flows of oil and suction gas sufficiently separate to ensure that excessive amounts of oil are not conducted out of the compressor in the gas which is compressed thereby. Lubrication is enhanced by the use of a vent passage (68) which opens into a relatively lower pressure region within the suction pressure portion of the compressor shell.

  • Patent number: 5533348
Abstract: An average temperature sensor designed for use in an air conditioning unit, wherein the air conditioning unit has a high pressure region and a low pressure region and a method for making an average temperature measurement. The average temperature sensor senses the average temperature of air flowing in the high pressure region and comprises a device for conveying a flow of air that is in fluid communication with the high pressure region. A temperature sensor is disposed in a temperature sensing relationship to the device for conveying the flow or air. The high pressure in the high pressure region induces a flow of air in the device for conveying a flow of air. This flow of air flows from the high pressure region to the low pressure region and is at the average temperature of the air in the high pressure region.

  • Patent number: 5530406
Abstract: Based on a phase lock loop structure, having a reference signal generator (1), a first phase detector (2), a low pass filter (3), a VCO (4) and a frequency divider (5), in order to achieve a faster channel switching an maintain the design of the filters to be as simple as possible, a second phase detector (6) is provided that receives the reference signal (9) and a second output signal (11) coming from the frequency divider (5) and shifted 90.degree. with respect to its other output signal (10), and that generates a second phase error signal (13), in quadrature with the first phase error signal (12), that is filtered by a second low pass filter (7) thereby generating a second filtered phase error signal (15). The two filtered phase error signals (14,15) are provided to a quadratic correlator (8) whose output is provided to the VCO (4). Its amplitude is proportional to the difference of frequencies between the reference signal (9) and any of the output signals (10,11) from the frequency divider (5).

  • Patent number: 5530349
Abstract: The sensor device uses the flux-gate principle and detects and cancels a second harmonic frequency (2f.sub.o) output by a sensor coil (23). The sensor device includes a master oscillator (1) that provides a stable output that is supplied to a generator (2) which generate two signals which respectively have a basic operating frequency (f.sub.o) and a double basic operating frequency (2f.sub.o or 2fc). The basic operating frequency (f.sub.o) is amplified in a power booster (3) and is connected to drive coil (22) mounted on a core (39) in the sensor head (4) to saturate the core (39). The output signal from the sensor coil (23) of sensor head (4) is filtered in a first bandpass filter (5) to obtain the second harmonic of the sensor coil, the output signal of the first bandpass filter (5) is detected in a phase detector (6) that is also connected to receive the double (2fc) frequency. The phase detector output is connected to a second low filter (7).

  • Patent number: 5526540
Abstract: A nozzle assembly includes a housing with a mounting flange, a cavity, and a skirt extending from the flange to the cavity. Water and air supply ports communicate with the cavity and a socket ring divides the cavity into water and air supply regions. A discharge ball assembly includes a ball pivotally received in the socket and a discharge nozzle. A bezel has a lip covering the mounting flange, a skirt covering the housing skirt and surrounding the discharge nozzle and an end portion retaining the ball in the socket. Water and air flows are controlled by a valve member within the ball, and an additional water path provides continuous flow to an ejector orifice leading to a mixing region where air is entrained in the water flow. The discharge nozzle rotates to control the valve member but does not move axially. A clamp member is drawn by fasteners against the tub surface opposite to the mounting flange, and the housing can be mounted in different positions.
