  • Patent number: 6360973
Abstract: The spray nozzle comprises a mixing chamber into which a liquid, forming a first and a second liquid stream, can flow through two inlet openings and which comprises an outlet opening, disposed downstream, for a spray jet. A mixing chamber wall acts as a guide surface for the liquid streams and is shaped at the outlet opening such that the liquid streams meet at an angle at the outlet opening and then form the spray jet. Given an angle of impact of approximately 90°, this spraying process delivers droplets with a high level of kinetic energy and a broad uniform fan-out of the droplet paths. Large areas can therefore be uniformly sprayed with the spray nozzle from a considerable distance.

  • Patent number: 6358860
Abstract: A method of making and certifying submicron line width calibration standards includes steps of thermal growth of a silicon dioxide film layer on top and vertical side wall surfaces of silicon regions, e.g. strips or mounds, that are formed over a silicon dioxide layer on a silicon substrate, then optically measuring the top film layer thickness, removing the oxide film from the top surface of the silicon regions via a planarization technique that protects the film on the side walls, and finally removing at least some, and in most cases preferably all, of the silicon material to leave just the oxide film that was on the side walls of the former silicon regions as submicron linear features, such as extended isolated lines or connected line segments arranged in a polygon.

  • Patent number: 6358026
Abstract: A reciprocating compressor carries suction valve apparatus on its piston in the form of a sheath. The sheath is retained and guided for motion both in conformance with and relative to the piston on which it is carried so as to accommodate both the flow of suction gas into the cylinder in which the piston-sheath combination is disposed and the compression of such gas therein. Retainers are disposed in the ends of the piston's wrist pin and have end faces disposed in accommodating apertures in the sheath. The configuration of the retainer end faces and the sheath apertures in which they are disposed act to limit and guide the movement of the sheath with respect to the piston.

Abstract: A catalytically active material useful to prepare vinyl acetate monomer from ethylene, acetic acid, and an oxygen-containing gas under fluid bed conditions comprises a porous microspheroidal support containing catalytically active palladium crystallites finely dispersed within the support. This catalyst material does not require incorporation of gold to maintain activity and selectivity. A process to produce a vinyl acetate fluid bed catalyst in which catalytically active small palladium crystallites are finely dispersed within the support comprises dispersing selected metal species within the support which have an affinity to palladium to form very fine crystallites of palladium. The affinity metal species may be dispersed by impregnation onto a preformed microspheroidal support or may be intimately incorporated within the support before impregnation with a soluble palladium species.
