Abstract: A low side scroll compressor is protected from both the potentially damaging effects of improper electrical hookup and the development of high discharge temperatures by the disposition of a valve member in a passage which communicates between the suction pressure portion and a discharge pressure portion of the compressor. The valve operates to permit the flow of gas from the suction to the discharge pressure portion of the compressor through a protective passage when the compressor is caused to run backwards due to miswiring so as to avert damage to the scroll members. The valve permits the flow of gas from the discharge to the suction pressure portion of the compressor through the protective passage when the temperature of the discharge gas produced by the compressor is caused to exceed a predetermined temperature. The resulting flow causes the compressor motor to de-energize.

Abstract: Landing aids using phased-array antennas must be very carefully calibrated. Conventional methods use probes which are inserted into each individual radiating element of the array antenna. For 6-bit phase shifters, this method is not suficiently accurate. A method and an apparatus are disclosed wherein the aperture illumination of the array antenna is determined from the output of an integral waveguide and compared with a desired aperture illumination. The difference between actual value and desired value is compensated for iteratively with the aid of an adaptive control system.

The catalysts are useful in the formation of phthalonitriles from the reaction of xylenes with oxygen and ammonia at elevated temperatures.
Abstract: A bumper fascia molding and method of making the same is accomplished by providing a trim strip with an overall T shape in cross section. The trim strip has a body portion and a stem. The trim strip is positioned onto a channel within the bumper fascia molding. A force is exerted on the decorative face to seat the trim strip in position in the bumper fascia molding. While the force is exerted, a securement mechanism is passed through the bumper fascia molding channel and trim strip to secure the trim strip within the bumper fascia channel. Read through is substantially eliminated on the outer decorative surface at the securement points.
Abstract: A variable gap sealing article for sealing between a first surface and a second surface has an elongated body portion with a resilient contractible portion and an expandable portion. The article fills a gap between the surfaces by expanding the expandable portion and compressing the contractible portion.
Abstract: A molded article having an embedded bracket, such as a whirlpool tub, the mold and a method of molding the article are disclosed. The article includes a rigid shell having a non-finish side and a finish side. The non-finish side is coated with a polymeric material. The polymeric material encloses a bracket and distributes the weight of an attached object, such as a whirlpool motor, over adjacent polymeric material. The bracket is affixed to the rigid shell in a spaced relationship and includes a surface for attaching to an object by attachment means such as a blind bolt. The bracket may also be affixed to the rigid shell by supports which are welded to the rigid shell.

The system includes an elongated web protector having a U-shaped cross-section which fits over and protects the partition wall.
Abstract: The present invention comprises a water spout for a sink, bathtub or the like, for providing a sheet-like flow of water. The spout has an inlet with a central longitudinal axis and an inlet cover disposed within the spout for directing inflowing water away from the central longitudinal axis into a first chamber. The top of the first chamber is defined, at least in part, by a substantially horizontal baffle which preferably extends from the front of the spout to a point proximate the rear wall of the spout leaving a gap between the rearward edge of the baffle and the rear wall of the spout. A second chamber, preferably having a volume greater than the volume of the first chamber, is disposed above the substantially horizontal baffle. The water exits the spout through a mouth which is fluidic communication with the second chamber. The mouth is most preferably in fluidic communication with a forward position of the second chamber at a point higher than the rearward edge of the baffle.

The system including a tube, an overflow opening adapter and a drain opening adapter. The tube includes an internal supporting rib which prevents collapse of the tube when a layer of plastic material is formed on the underside of the sink.
Abstract: A friction casting for use in a railroad car truck between a side frame column and a bolster pocket slanted wall has a slanted wall to face and be in contact with the bolster pocket slanted wall and a vertical face in contact with the side frame column. The friction casting has a hollow interior, except for a support rib which is perpendicular to the slanted wall of the casting and supports the slanted wall of the casting generally at the zone of contact with the bolster pocket slanted wall. The support rib transfers the load from the slanted face of the friction casting to the vertical face of the friction casting generally at the center of pressure thereof.
Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for data communication control within the communication controllers of stations within a local area network. In general, the method and apparatus involves maintaining within the command and status control interface unit of the communication controller, receive and transmit command queues as well as receive and transmit status queues. Pluralities of receive and transmit data packet storage locations are provided for storing data packets to be received as well as transmitted. Each receive command is uniquely associated with a data packet storage location. Receive and transmit commands are buffered in a pipeline manner in the receive and transmit command queues, respectively, whereas receive and transmit status bits are buffered in a pipeline manner in the receive and transmit status queues, respectively.
Abstract: A process for producing a dialkyl ester (i.e. BTDE) from its corresponding dianhydride (i.e., BTDA) comprising mixing the dianhydride, an organic solvent, solid catalyst and an alcohol capable of reacting with the dianhydride stirring the solution until the dianhydride and alcohol have reacted to form the dialkyl ester, separating the dialkyl ester from the catalyst and drying the ester to form a solid paticulate product. The product has a purity of over 85%.

Abstract: A method of forming an elongated trim strip product by first extruding a first strip of thermoplastic material from a die having an outlet with an area at least substantially as great as the desired cross-sectional area of the strip product in planes perpendicular to the direction of extrusion. Immediately subsequent to the step of extruding and while the extruded strip is still in a plastic state, it is passed longitudinally between cooperating forming rolls to shape the cross section of the extruded strip to the desired shape and cross section of the strip product. While the extruded strip is passing between the cooperating forming rolls, a backing strip of foil or thin metal is directed between the rolls in alignment with the extruded strip to bond the backing strip to the extruded strip.

Abstract: A data separator for use in synchronizing data derived from a floppy disk or similar data source provides a variable net gain or loss of charge to vary the frequency of a voltage-controlled oscillator in accordance with the relative position of the data with respect to the clock until data centering or synchronization is achieved. The net charge is derived from a charge pump circuit that is controlled by a charge pump-up signal whose duration is proportional to the detected phase difference between the data and the clock, and a charge pump-down signal whose duration is one clock cycle. When the data pulse is centered within a clock cycle, the duration of a pump-up signal is one half that of a pump-down signal.
