  • Patent number: 5244377
Abstract: Dies for posteriors and anterior curves. A spherical surface is formed in the end of a body member, the side walls of which are compressed to change the spherical surface geometry to toric shape. The side wall is cylindrical and provided with two elongated slots which define two opposite ribs. A bolt passing through the ribs is tightened to provide the compressive forces.

  • Patent number: 5241739
Abstract: Method and apparatus for automatically attaching a substantially U-shaped support stand to a fusee includes an annular indexable turntable provided with holders for receiving support stands at one workstation, and fusees in assembled relationship with the support stands at another workstation. The support stands are deformed from substantially straight shapes to substantially U-shapes as they are loaded into the holders on the turntable. The free ends of the support stand are subsequently inwardly curled prior to assembly with the fusees. The fusees are fed from a supply hopper, cleaned, and successively inserted into a holder on the turntable in assembled relationship with successively presented support stands. Subsequently, the turntable is indexed to additional workstations where predetermined lengths of polyfilament tape are successively applied to end portions of the fusees, and subsequently wrapped about the fusees and associated end portions of the support stand to securely join one to the other.

  • Patent number: 5241253
Abstract: A controller for operating a two-speed fan motor at one of two speeds and for selecting the appropriate speed in response to conditions such as a maximum and minimum duct static pressure in a fan unit having moveable inlet guide vanes for controlling air flow rates through the fan unit when employed in a variable air volume system. Position sensing switches are provided on the fan unit for indicating to the controller when the inlet guide vanes are in their preferred switching positions, which may be full open or full closed. The controller then selects one of the two fan speeds as appropriate within an operating deadband limit which serves to prevent undesirable changes of motor speed.

  • Patent number: 5236532
Abstract: A liquid impermeable barrier fabric which resists penetration of liquids under finite hydraulic heads and maintains that capable after upwards of 75 institutional washing/sterilization cycles. The barrier fabric is structurally characterized by a silicone membrane attached to a fabric substrate. The substrate is a tightly woven fabric which is constructed of polyester yarns. Attachment of the membrane to the fabric substrate by a bonding mechanism in which the silicone material is in intimate contact with a substantial portion of the looped portions of the yarn, which define the surface of the fabric. This bonding mechanism also includes hydrophilicity of the yarn surfaces with which the silicone is in intimate contact. The fabric is treated with a hydrophilic finish to provide this aspect of the bonding mechanism. This barrier fabric is provided through the use of coating/calendaring apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5231076
Abstract: A process for preparing 123 superconductor material comprising heating a 123 compact in direct physical contact with a 211 compact to decompose only the 123 compact to form a liquid phase in the 123 compact is disclosed. The heat is maintained with the liquid phase passing into the 211 compact, to form a decomposed compact and an enriched compact. The decomposed and enriched compacts are cooled to below 1000 degrees celsius to promote a peritectic reaction between the 211 grains and the infiltrated liquid phase in the 211 compact. The decomposed and enriched compacts are then further cooled to about 400-600 degrees celsius in an oxygen atmosphere, and finally cooled to room temperature to yield a fused 123 decomposed compact-123 enriched compact. The 123 superconductor having enhanced electrical and mechanical properties is the 123 enriched compact which can be separated from the decomposed compact, by severing the 123 decomposed compact from the 123 enriched compact.

  • Patent number: 5230108
Abstract: A molded article is disclosed. The molded article includes a shell having a reservoir, a deck surrounding the reservoir and an apron. The shell has an exterior non-finish side and an interior finish side. The non-finish side of the shell is coated with a polymeric material. The polymeric material forms a layer on the non-finish side of the shell. The polymeric layer which is formed on the non-finish of the apron of the shell includes a rectangular area of reduced thickness and covers most of the surface of the apron. The periphery of the area of reduced thickness is surrounded by a lip having a chamfer of approximately 45.degree.. • Patent number: 5231117
Abstract: A high solids content, aqueous, microcapsule-containing printing ink is prepared by forming microcapsules in situ in a printing ink vehicle. The microcapsules are preferably prepared by interfacial polymerization or interfacial crosslinking between a reactant, such as a polyisocyanate dissolved in an oily solution and a coreactant such as a polysalt of casein and diethylene triamine present in an aqueous solution into which the oily solution is dispensed. The aqueous solution contains water and preferrably a non-volatile diluent such as a non-reducing sugar, for example methyl glucoside. The oil-containing microcapsules contain an oil solvent and a mixture of dye precursors which upon reaction with a color developer produces an intense black image. The printing ink preferably has a 60-70% by weight solids content and may be used as a low-coat-weight CB coating for preparing carbonless copy paper.

  • Patent number: 5227108
Abstract: A method of forming an elongated decorative trim strip of thermoplastic material with an end of the strip having a desired shape of non-constant cross-section in planes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the strip. An extruded length of thermoplastic material is first made of a length substantially equal to the desired length of the decorative trim strip with a first longitudinally extending surface of the length being a front show face and a second longitudinally extending surface opposite the first surface being a back mounting surface. At an end portion of the extruded length, material is removed inwardly from the second surface to create a cavity behind the first surface while leaving the show face generally undisturbed.
