  • Patent number: 4889877
Abstract: A high solids content, aqueous, microcapsule-containing printing ink is prepared by forming microcapsules in situ in a printing ink vehicle. The microcapsules are preferably prepared by interfacial polymerization or interfacial crosslinking between a reactant, such as a polyisocyanate dissolved in an oily solution and a coreactant such as a polysalt of casein and diethylene triamine present in an aqueous solution into which the oily solution is dispensed. The aqueous solution contains water and a non-volatile diluent such as a non-reducing sugar, for example methyl glucoside. The printing ink preferably has a 60-70% by weight solids content and may be used as a low-coat-weight CB coating for preparing carbonless copy paper.

  • Patent number: 4886395
Abstract: Method and apparatus for remotely connecting an offshore structure to an underwater pipeline using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The structure has a bell-mouthed bending guide at its base through which a winch line from the surface passes and is temporarily looped back and attached to an accessible place on the structure. Using the ROV and a surface tended messenger line the pull-in line is attached to a terminal assembly at the end of flexible pipe attached to the pipeline. The terminal assembly is pulled in horizontally to the guide, arcuately through the guide and then from the guide in general vertical alignment with a pipe end receiver assembly on the structure above the bending guide. At a location near the receiver assembly a towing head is removed from the terminal assembly and a second pull-in line is attached to the terminal assembly. The two pull-in lines are attached to opposite sides of the terminal for balanced pulling of the terminal assembly to connection with the receiver assembly.

  • Patent number: 4884590
Abstract: An air valve actuated by an electric motor has a cylindrical inlet section. The inlet section defines a seating surface upstream of which is a support grid. A backplate, upon which the actuating motor is mounted, is fixedly supported by a plurality of rods that extend downstream of the inlet section. A damper assembly includes a generally planar damper mounted for movement axially of the inlet section. The damper assembly includes a splined rod which extends upstream and into a cooperating spline in the support grid. A threaded spindle extends downstream of the damper plate through a cooperatively threaded motor-driven drive gear which is mounted for rotation on the backplate. Because a portion of the damper assembly is splined, the damper assembly cannot rotate and is driven axially within the valve by the rotation of the drive motor and drive gear.

  • Patent number: 4882763
Abstract: A method of making a glass micromodel of a pore system found in petroleum reservoir rock wherein a computer-generated two-dimensional binary image of the actual rock pore system taken in thin section is used to produce a template for etched reproduction of the pore system in the glass model plate of the micromodel. The template is produced by digitizing a video image of a view of the rock in thin section, which thin section includes injected dyed material to make the pore system visible, processing the digitized video image through a digital filter so as to effect projection of the three-dimensional aspects of the pore connectedness and geometry viewed through overlaying meineral onto the plane of the imaged view to obtain a two-dimensional template image of the three-dimensional pore system with pores accurately coordinated and pore geometry relationships reliably preserved.

  • Patent number: 4879264
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of making a catalyst precursor by aging an aqueous solution containing the monoperoxovanadium ion, VO(O.sub.2).sup.+, until a vanadium-containing sol or gel is formed, and reacting said vanadium while in said aqueous sol or gel form, with an antimony compound that contains Sb having a valence of 3. In one embodiment, the VO(O.sub.2).sup.+ ion is made by reacting H.sub.2 O.sub.2 with a vanadium compound. Also disclosed is making a catalyst by drying and calcining such precursor. When the drying is effected by spray drying a microspheroidal catalyst is produced. The catalysts useful for ammoxidation of propane are more attrition resitant than catalysts of the same empirical formula made by prior art methods.

  • Patent number: 4878337
Abstract: Articles, such as glass containers, are fed continuously in end-to-end relationship through a pin spacer adapted to provide a space between adjacent rows so that cross partitions can be fed therebetween. The articles are then grouped by s pin type grouper to provide predetermined members of article rows and columns in each group. The columns of articles are then spread slightly to allow longitudinal extending partitions to be fed between adjacent columns. At the same time flat tray blanks are withdrawn from a horizontally extending magazine and provided on a lug conveyor located below the path of the grouped articles and each blank is mated with a group of articles at a load station where the blank is formed around the articles by a pocket chain conveyor and article folding means operated in conjunction with an overhead flight bar conveyor which cooperates with the trailing portion of each pocket to fold all flaps provided on the tray blank.
