Abstract: Reusable plastic trays of the type adapted to transport large plastic soda bottles generally have cylindrical pockets for receiving the base of the bottle, and these pockets are uniformly spaced with respect to one another in each tray, and also with respect to adjacent bottles in adjacent trays at least when the trays are oriented in end-to-end relationship with respect to one another. This feature is one the present invention takes peculiar advantage of providing for orienting the bottles in two columns, and synchronizing bottle and tray movements so that the bottles can be lowered by their neck rings into the upwardly open pockets of the tray without necessity for periodically interrupting forward movement of the containers and of the trays in an improved continuous motion bottle packer especially suited for use with such reusable plastic trays.
Abstract: A method and system for geophysical exploration including obtaining, processing, displaying and interpreting seismic data. Seismic energy is imparted into the earth's subterranean formation along at least two linear independent lines of action in a seismic survey. At least two linearly independent components of the seismic wave energy imparted along each line of action are detected within the seismic survey. A concord of seismic signals is produced from the seismic wave energy detected for selected combinations of receiver and source locations. An orientation module operates on the concord of the seismic signals so as to generate synthetic concords of seismic signals so as to focus on a particular component of the seismic wave energy in order to infer the geologic characteristics of the earth's subterranean formations.

Abstract: An electrically commutated, collectorless direct-current motor is disclosed whose stator has a self-supporting drum winding and a cylindrical plastic body which is located concentrically with the drum winding in a winding head. The cylindrical plastic body has recesses which contain eyehooks. The ends of the drum winding are connected with the eyehooks, which are welded to a circuit board. The invention makes it possible to automate the connection of the winding ends to the circuit board.

Abstract: A corner member for an air conditioning equipment cabinet includes a three-sided corner portion from which six discrete legs extend. The disposition of the legs and the existence of an open seam between two of the three sides of the corner portion of the corner member makes the corner member flexible and self-fixturing during the process of cabinet assembly yet results in an assembled cabinet which is both rigid and strong.
Abstract: A digital delay circuit that can be readily implemented in an integrated circuit is disclosed. The circuit includes a reference clock and two or more arrays of controlled delay elements. The reference clock is passed through one array of delay elements and the thus-delayed clock is compared to an undelayed clock in a phase detector or comparator the output of which is a control voltage. The latter is applied to the control inputs of each of the delay elements. The controlled delay elements may be in the form of buffers in which the delay is varible and controlled by the level of the control input.
Abstract: Microcapsules having hard, thick walls are formed by dispersing an oily solution containing a crosslinking agent in an aqueous solution, and forming a polysalt in the aqueous solution, the polysalt including a high molecular weight polyanion and a low molecular weight polycationic polyamine having a functionality of at least three. The polyanion is preferably casein. The microcapsules may be used in a CB ink for preparing carbonless copy paper.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for fabricating submicron silicon gate metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) which have threshold and punchthrough implants that are self-aligned to the gate electrode and source and drain regions. A layer of dielectric material (12) is either deposited or grown on the surface of a substrate, and a trench (15), which defines the region of the MOSFET gate electrode, is formed in the dielectric layer. A gate oxide (16) is formed at the exposed substrate at the bottom of the trench, and an implant is performed into the silicon substrate wherever there is gate oxide, but not into the portion of the substrate covered by the original dielectric layer. A layer of polysilicon (20), preferably doped, or another metallic film is then deposited onto the surface. The polysilicon is etched back to the top surface of the dielectric layer, thereby leaving polysilicon in the trench to form the gate electrode (24).
Abstract: A nested pattern of round containers accumulates on an infeed conveyor between side guides so spaced as to accommodate the containers in nested columns. Individual venturi, or lane conveyors, are non-linear and achieve a lateral spreading of the center columns without relying on a fixed lane guide or divider. Outer lane conveyors do the same immediately downstream of this center column spreading action and the containers are then fed to a case packer in orderly columns.

Abstract: A speed detector, for use with a tone wheel having metal teeth, employs two coils positioned in offset relation near the tone wheel for interacting with the tone wheel teeth and thus changing their respective inductances. One coil is in a phase sense oscillator circuit and the other is in a tuned sensor network. The oscillator is coupled to, and drives, the tuned network. The change in coil inductances effects a shifting of the phase of the output signal from the oscillator relative to the output signal from the tuned network. The phase sequence of those two output signals also reverses itself cyclically as the tone wheel rotates, and a phase reversal detector detects that reversal and uses the event to provide timing reference pulses for a final determination of speed.
Abstract: In the field of the echography, the present invention is a system and method of preprocessing and transmitting information (such as echo waveform information) from a source (such as a transducer) to a destination (such as a rule-based computer system). The present invention reduces the absolute amount of information that is transmitted without reducing the amount of meaningful information that is conveyed. In this way, the present invention is effectively able to transmit more meaningful information than would be expected for conventional transmission systems. It also acts to reduce the amount of information processing that must be done at the destination.
