Abstract: Polymer composite photonic crystal materials are disclosed as coatings with topcoats having high reflection (>30%) in a specific range of the electromagnetic spectrum, such as ultraviolet (<400 nm), visible (Vis, 400 nm-700 nm), or near-infrared radiation range (NIR, 700-2000 nm), and optionally a relatively low reflection (<20% reflection) in a second, different range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Surprisingly, it was found that through a multi-layer coating approach, the optical properties of polymer composite photonic crystal films can be selectively modified from a variety of different coating methods, including spray deposition.

Abstract: A machine-learning tool learns from sensors' data of a nuclear reactor at steady state and maps them to controls of the nuclear reactor. The tool learns all given ranges of normal operation and responses for corrective measures. The tool may train another learning tool (or the same tool) that forecasts the behavior of the reactor based on real-time changes (e.g., every 10 seconds). The tool implements an optimization technique for differing half-life materials to be placed in the reactor. The tool maximizes isotope production based on optimal controls of the reactor.

Abstract: Embodiments of a system for dynamic reconfiguration of cache are disclosed. Accordingly, the system includes a plurality of processors and a plurality of memory modules executed by the plurality of processors. The system also includes a dynamic reconfigurable cache comprising of a multi-level cache implementing a combination of an L1 cache, an L2 cache, and an L3 cache. The one or more of the L1 cache, the L2 cache, and the L3 cache are dynamically reconfigurable to one or more sizes based at least in part on an application data size associated with an application being executed by the plurality of processors. Abstract: A multilayer protective covering can protect a surface from lightning strikes. The covering includes a bottom conductive layer affixed to the surface and having a first opening that is aligned with a grounding connection so that the grounding connection is exposed through first opening and not in contact with the bottom conductive layer. The covering also includes a dielectric layer affixed to the bottom conductive layer and having second opening aligned with the grounding connection so that the grounding connection is exposed through second opening and not in contact with the dielectric layer. The covering additionally includes a top conductive layer affixed to the dielectric layer and covering the grounding connection. The top conductive layer directs electrical current from a lightning strike on the surface to the grounding connection.

Abstract: A data-driven nonuniform subsampling approach for computation-free on-sensor data dimensionality is provided, referred to herein as selective sensing. Designing an on-sensor data dimensionality reduction scheme for efficient signal sensing has long been a challenging task. Compressive sensing is a generic solution for sensing signals in a compressed format. Although compressive sensing can be directly implemented in the analog domain for specific types of signals, many application scenarios require implementation of data compression in the digital domain. However, the computational complexity involved in digital-domain compressive sensing limits its practical application, especially in resource-constrained sensor devices or high-data-rate sensor devices. Embodiments described herein provide a selective sensing framework that adopts a novel concept of data-driven nonuniform subsampling to reduce the dimensionality of acquired signals while retaining the information of interest in a computation-free fashion.
