  • Patent number: 9500717
Abstract: A novel method for real-time small-signal stability analysis for power electronic-based components in a power system. The method may be used to monitor a power system in real-time by perturbing the source side of an electronic-based component of the power system of about 0.5 to 1 percent of a nominal current of the power system at the source side, and perturbing the load side of the power electronic-based component by varying the voltage at the load side using a series voltage injection. Time-domain results of the simultaneous perturbations may be transferred to frequency-domain results and the stability of the power system may be monitored by obtaining a Nyquist contour and employing Generalized Nyquist Criterion or unit circle criterion.

  • Patent number: 9499860
Abstract: A primer and method for amplification of a target nucleic acid, the primer adapted to conform into a conformation that dissociates from a complementary strand of DNA duplex. The conformation may have a free energy with more favorable thermodynamics than a corresponding DNA duplex, such as a B-DNA duplex. The dissociation may occur during an extension step of an amplification method, such as polymerase chain reaction. The method can proceed isothermally, and the primers may include intrinsic fluorescence.

  • Patent number: 9499529
Abstract: This invention relates generally to methods of treating aggressive cancers, such as hormone-refractory metastatic prostate cancer, by exposing the aggressive cancer cells to curcumin analogs having the claimed structural scaffolds and side groups. The anticancer effects of curcumin are associated with its influence on numerous growth factors within the cells. However, its clinical development has been limited by its suboptimal pharmacokinetics and poor bioavailability caused by poor solubility in water and rapid in vivo metabolism. There is the need to develop new and improved curcumin analogs with better potency, water solubility, and in vivo metabolic stability, as well as retained safety profiles. Curcumin analogs having one of the claimed four novel scaffolds with basic heteroaromatic side groups show the ability to decrease aggressive cancer cell viability and to inhibit aggressive cancer cell growth.

  • Publication number: 20160336064
Abstract: Neuromorphic computational circuitry is disclosed that includes a cross point resistive network and line control circuitry. The cross point resistive network includes variable resistive units. One set of the variable resistive units is configured to generate a correction line current on a conductive line while other sets of the variable resistive units generate resultant line currents on other conductive lines. The line control circuitry is configured to receive the line currents from the conductive lines and generate digital vector values. Each of the digital vector values is provided in accordance with a difference between the current level of a corresponding resultant line current and a current level of the correction line current. In this manner, the digital vector values are corrected by the current level of the correction line current in order to reduce errors resulting from finite on to off conductance state ratios.

  • Patent number: 9494389
Abstract: A structurally reinforced optically transparent panel that may be utilized as a bulletproof window or shield. The panel includes a plurality of angled reinforcement members having a reflective top and bottom surfaces. Optical lenses are disposed between the reinforcement members directing a light ray in a predetermined direction. The geometry and spacing of the reinforcement members is such that the light rays enter and exit the bulletproof panel at substantially the same angle allowing an observer to view optical images of objects behind the bulletproof panel, thus creating optical transparency. The reinforcement members are of a high strength material capable of being impenetrable by a projectile fired from a ballistic weapon or an explosion debris.
