Abstract: A temperature compensation technique is provided for a non-volatile memory arrangement. The memory arrangement includes: a memory circuit (12) having a floating gate transistor (P3) operating in weak-inversion mode and a varactor (Cv) with a terminal electrically coupled to a gate node of the floating gate transistor; a first current reference circuit (14) having a floating gate transistor (PI); a second current reference circuit (16) having a floating gate transistor (P2); and a control module (18) configured to selectively receive a reference current (I1, I2) from a drain of the floating gate transistor in each of the first and second current reference circuits. The control module operates to determine a ratio between the reference currents received from the first and second current reference circuits, generate a tuning voltage (Vx) in accordance with the ratio between the reference currents and apply the tuning voltage to the varactor in the memory circuit.

  • Patent number: 8930304
Abstract: In a corpus of scientific articles such as a digital library, documents are connected by citations and one document plays two different roles in the corpus: document itself and a citation of other documents. A Bernoulli Process Topic (BPT) model is provided which models the corpus at two levels: document level and citation level. In the BPT model, each document has two different representations in the latent topic space associated with its roles. Moreover, the multi-level hierarchical structure of the citation network is captured by a generative process involving a Bernoulli process. The distribution parameters of the BPT model are estimated by a variational approximation approach.

  • Patent number: 8930705
Abstract: With the widespread use of the distributed systems comes the need to secure such systems against a wide variety of threats. Recent security mechanisms are grossly inadequate in authenticating the program executions at the clients or servers, as the clients, servers and the executing programs themselves can be compromised after the clients and servers pass the authentication phase. A generic framework is provided for authenticating remote executions on a potentially untrusted remote server—essentially validating that what is executed at the server on behalf of the client is actually the intended program. Details of a prototype Linux implementation are also described, along with some optimization techniques for reducing the run-time overhead of the present scheme. The performance overhead of this technique varies generally from 7% to 24% for most benchmarks, as seen from the actual remote execution of SPEC benchmarks.

  • Patent number: 8928521
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention can predict the ground location and intensity of storm cells for a future time using radar reflectivity data. In some embodiments, a Sinc approximation of the general flow equation can be solved to predict the ground location and intensity of a storm cell. In some embodiments, to solve the Sinc approximation the velocity of a storm cell can be estimated using various techniques including solving the flow equation in the frequency domain. The results can provide efficient prediction of storm cell position in nowcasting applications.

  • Patent number: 8927207
Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of non-coding small RNA molecules that regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by interacting with 3? untranslated regions (UTRs) of their target mRNAs. The invention relates to the application of miR-192 and miR-215. Both of these miRNAs impact cellular proliferation through the p53-miRNA circuit, and interact with dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) and thymidylate synthase (TS). Particularly, upregulation of these miRNAs reduces cellular proliferation. The invention relates to this discovery. For example, inhibiting miR-192 and/or miR-215 sensitizes a neoplasm or a subject with a neoplasm to chemotherapeutic agents. Furthermore, measuring the levels of miR-192 and/or miR-215 provides one with information regarding whether the neoplasm or subject will respond to chemotherapeutic agents. Accordingly, the invention relates to composition and methods relating to the identification, characterization and modulation of the expression of miR-192 and miR-215.

  • Patent number: 8927682
Abstract: Poly(glycolide) polymers are disclosed. The polymers generally include a polymerized alkynyl-substituted glycolide having a polymer backbone with one or more alkynyl groups appended thereto. The alkynyl groups provide reactive sites for further functionalization of the polymer, for example by reaction with azide derivatives (e.g., azide-substituted organic compounds). Alkynyl and azide groups react via the “click” chemistry mechanism to form functional groups covalently bonded to the polymer via a triazole link. The polymers are biodegradable and can be used to deliver drugs or other therapeutic substances (e.g., large biomolecules such as single strand RNA) at targeted locations in a patient's body and/or at controlled release rates.
