  • Patent number: 12367107
Abstract: A streamlined approach analyzes block-level backups of VM virtual disks and creates both coarse and fine indexes of backed up VM data files in the block-level backups. The indexes (collectively the “content index”) enable granular searching by filename, by file attributes (metadata), and/or by file contents, and further enable granular live browsing of backed up VM files. Thus, by using the illustrative data storage management system, ordinary block-level backups of virtual disks are “opened to view” through indexing. Any block-level copies can be indexed according to the illustrative embodiments, including file system block-level copies. The indexing occurs offline in an illustrative data storage management system, after VM virtual disks are backed up into block-level backup copies, and therefore the indexing does not cut into the source VM's performance. The disclosed approach is widely applicable to VMs executing in cloud computing environments and/or in non-cloud data centers.

  • Patent number: 12368659
Abstract: An orchestrator can send trace directives to network appliances that indicate a network flow to trace. The network appliances can include packet processing pipelines that each include numerous processing stages. The network appliances implement network rules for processing network flows by configuring the pipeline's processing stages to execute specific policies for specific network packets in accordance with the network rules. The processing stages can also be configured to produce metadata indicating the policies implemented at each stage to process certain network packets in network flows indicated by trace directives. The metadata can be used to produce a trace report that indicates a network packet of the network flow, a first network rule that was applied to the network packet by a one of the first appliance processing stages, and the one of the first appliance processing stages that applied the first network rule to the network packet.

Abstract: In a method a computer-implemented efficiency analyzer selects operators from an intermediate representation of a dataflow program. The operators are included in a mapping of the operators to hardware of a computing system to execute the dataflow program. Based on the mapping and a description of the hardware, the efficiency analyzer computes an execution metric associated with executing the operators on the hardware. Based on the execution metric and hardware description, the efficiency analyzer determines an inefficiency metric, and based on the inefficiency metric, the efficiency analyzer determines an inefficiency associated with the dataflow program. The computing system to execute the dataflow program can comprise a coarse grain computing system and the hardware can include a reconfigurable processor of the computing system. A computer program product and a computing system to a the dataflow program can implement the method.

  • Patent number: 12368516
Abstract: The quantum relay and quantum signal source exploit quantum properties of photon streams. A pair of spatially separated and polarization-entangled photon streams is used. The pair collectively exist in a quantum superposition state by virtue of their mutual entanglement. In the relay, an encoder establishes a modulation control signal corresponding to the information to be conveyed. An optical quantum circuit is placed in the path of one of the pair of streams, so that the first stream passes through it. The optical quantum circuit alters the quantum polarization state of the photon passing through it based on the control signal. In this way information is encoded into quantum probability distributions of the superposition state through quantum parallelism and quantum interference, whereby information is conveyed in the photon streams.

  • Patent number: 12367177
Abstract: A distributed data storage system comprises features for integration with application orchestrators such as Kubernetes, and includes a proprietary Container Storage Interface (CSI) driver. Features include setting snapshot scheduling and retention policies, and a “container data mover” that replicates data from a source to a distinct destination distributed data storage system. The migration may be configured one-to-one, one-to-many, unidirectional, and/or bi-directional. Metadata-based snapshots and metadata-based changed block tracking identify payload data to move from source to destination within application orchestrator frameworks at both ends. Payload data is migrated from source to destination using different techniques than those used for migrating metadata, e.g., kernel-to-kernel for copying payload data versus ordinary metadata writes. An illustrative barrier logic ensures that the migration follows a controlled progression of operations.
