  • Patent number: 6417365
Abstract: In a process for recovering medicinal substances or active substances from preparations, their initial products or waste, a flat-shaped starting material in the form of a film with adhesive and an active substance-containing material is provided with one edge length of from 0.1 to 5 cm and a second edge length of 50 cm. A starting material having an active substance is placed in an aqueous extraction liquor. The extraction liquor then takes effect until the active substance is dissolved in the aqueous extraction liquor forming an active substance-containing solution. The active substance is isolated from the active substance-containing solution be means of precipitation.

  • Patent number: 6409294
Abstract: A postage meter (franking machine) uses a digital print head such as an ink-jet or thermal transfer or dot-matrix print head, for which it is necessary to know the velocity of the mail piece passing by the print head. Two collimated monochromatic beams strike the mail piece, one at an angle leading the mail piece velocity and the other at an angle lagging the mail piece velocity. The beams converge yielding a sensing region filled with a diffraction pattern. The mail piece, assumed to be rough at a scale that is appropriate for the velocity measurement, moves at some velocity. A detector detects light intensity (photon flux) at a small region within the sensing region, and the intensity signal has a frequency that is proportional to the mail piece velocity. The frequency is detected or measured, the instantaneous velocity is derived therefrom, and the velocity is used to control the print head.

  • Patent number: 6400249
Abstract: A transformer providing low output voltage. A transformer core has two outer leg portions and a center portion. A primary winding has a first portion looped around one of the legs so that a current passed through the first winding will produce a magnetic flux in that leg that circulates in either the right hand or left hand sense. A second portion of the input signal winding is looped around the other leg in the opposite sense. This provides for a magnetic flux circulating through the two outer leg portions in the same sense, and provides that the magnetic flux circulating through the center portion is zero. The secondary winding is preferably provided as a fractional loop around one of the outer legs.

  • Patent number: 6394961
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for determining the cardiac output of a subject by thermodilution measurements by providing a predetermined amount of thermal indicator in a blood vessel with the thermal indicator having a temperature different from the temperature of subject's blood, thus exhibiting an indicator temperature difference. By measuring the temperature of subject's blood at a second place downstream the cardiac output (CO) and the extravascular thermovolume can be determined as a function of the time for the thermodilution curve. As a function of the thermodilution curve the measurements of the amount of thermal indicator and/or thermal indicator volume temperature difference are adjusted to provide a more accurate determination of cardiac output.

  • Patent number: 6378271
Abstract: An apparatus and method for securing a pour spout fitment to a panel of a filled and sealed thermoplastic-coated carton, wherein a machine 10 is mounted over a conveyor 12 conveying a line of cartons. Within the machine 10, a selected panel surface of each filled and sealed carton is heated to a predetermined temperature; next, at least an annular surface of a flange of the fitment is heated to a predetermined temperature. When the heated surface of the fitment is applied to the heated surface of the carton, the heat energy is transferred to the latter surface to an extent capable of activating the thermoplastic coating thereon. Upon pressing and cooling, the fitment and the carton surface are bonded together, without the need for a back-up or support mechanism, such as a mandrel or anvil. Alternatively, the fitment may be secured to the carton by way of a jetted-on, circular bead of hot melt adhesive.

  • Patent number: 6380727
Abstract: A current sensing cell, using PCB trace-loops, with the loops either contained in a single layer—horizontal loops, or in two separate layers—vertical loops interconnected by vias into a single two-pole inductive component. The horizontal loop-sensor cell will be used sideways, next to a planar conductor carrying a current parallel to the sensor traces, so as to collect the magnetic field lines on the side of the planar conductor, where they come closer together. The vertical loop sensor cell will be used on top or bottom of a planar conductor carrying current parallel to the cell, so as to collect the magnetic field lines going across the conductor, or between two parallel conductors, carrying parallel current of opposite sense, so as to collect the magnetic field lines that run in between the two conductors, summing up the two fields.

  • Patent number: 6325754
Abstract: The active part of the suit comprises in part one layer (3, 4) facing the body and another one facing away from it, both of a gas-tight, low stretch textile material, which are joined together at connecting positions (6) by gluing, welding or sewing and thereby create hollow spaces (5), which are connected together via valves (18) and can be put under pressure. Between the regions, which comprise the layers (3, 4)—bands (11, 12)—connecting parts (7) are arranged, which transmit tensile forces only. If the hollow spaces (5) are put under a gas pressure proportional to the z-acceleration, then the suit builds up a compensating applied pressure and thus frees the organism of the pilot from the loading effects of such accelerations. By a suitable choice of the width of the bands (11, 12) in conjunction with the radius of the enclosed part of the body a compensating pressure to the hydrostatic pressure, proportional to the acceleration, of the body fluids can be set up.
