Abstract: A system and method for diagnosing retina disease is disclosed. The method comprises capturing a plurality of images of the vascular network within the retina, such as through the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT). This plurality of images are then processed to determine the location and diameter of each vessel in the three-dimensional vascular network in the retina. The vascular network is then divided into a plurality of equal unit volumes. The vessel density, vascular volume density and other metrics can then be determined for each unit volume. This information can then be used to identify retina disease. The information can be parsed and presented in a variety of ways.

Abstract: A computer-implemented land planning system is designed to generate at least one conceptual fit solution to a user-defined land development problem. The system employs a computer readable medium and a computer program encoded on the medium. The computer program is operable, when executed on a computer, for electronically creating at least one candidate solution to the land development problem. The candidate solution incorporates engineering measurements applicable in development of an undeveloped land site, the land site including a conceptually designed vehicle parking area. A fitness function quantitatively evaluates the candidate solution based on its cost. A heuristic problem-solving strategy manipulates the engineering measurements of the candidate solution to achieve a more quantitatively fit solution to the land development problem. Documentation illustrating the fit solution to the land development problem is delivered to the user.

Abstract: Methods and systems for preventing unsecured mobile applications from accessing encrypted resources are presented. In some embodiments, a mobile device may determine that a background process associated with a mobile application is requesting to access an encrypted resource. The mobile device may further determine whether the mobile application has been secured with authentication information. In response to determining that the mobile application has not been secured, the mobile device may suspend the background process until the mobile application has been secured and transmit a request to a mobile application management agent to secure the mobile application using authentication information.
Abstract: A processing device of a storage server that manages a plurality of physical storage devices arranged in a plurality of stripes receives a request to write data. The processing device determines a total number of available stripe units to satisfy the request, identifies one or more stripes of the plurality of stripes that collectively include at least the total number of available stripe units, allocates the one or more stripes to the request, and stores the data for the request in the available stripe units of the one or more stripes.

Abstract: A system and method for generating a tachometer signal from a vibration sensor is disclosed in which an approximately idealized band pass filter is used along with a fast Fourier transform (FFT) to create a sufficient analytic signal to derive the tachometer signal for a shaft or other rotating component. In addition, jitter in the generated tachometer signal, or any tachometer signal, can be reduced by using an approximately idealized low pass filter and then transforming the filtered signal using a real FFT. These processes can be performed using a smart vibration sensor, which facilitates improved vibration analysis on rotating equipment where in the past the addition of a tachometer would be prohibitive due to cost, weight, certification requirements, or physical impracticality.
Abstract: Pharmaceutical tablet properties, including surface roughness, gloss and temperature, are determined in real-time using Raman spectroscopy. A plurality of coated pharmaceutical tablets are provided having a distribution of known values of a surface property to be modeled. The Raman spectrum of each coated tablet is acquired to generate a distribution of Raman spectra. A correlative model is then developed based upon the distribution of the acquired Raman spectra relative to the distribution of the known values of the measured property. The Raman spectrum of a pharmaceutical tablet is then acquired during and/or after a coating process, and the value of the surface property of the tablet is determined using the correlative model. The steps associated with model development are carried out off-line, whereas the step or steps associated with acquiring the Raman spectra of the pharmaceutical tablet during (preferable) or after online coating process(es) are carried out on-line using a remote, fiber-coupled probe.
Abstract: An observed operational state can include an operational state of one or more system devices. A sensor can emit, in response to a detected observable condition reflective of a given operational state, a simulated signal reflective of a different operational state as a proxy for the detected condition. A controller receiving such a proxy signal can, at least partially responsively to the proxy signal, issue a command corresponding to the given operational state. For example, a leak detector can emit in response to a detected leak, or a flow-rate sensor can emit in response to a detected flow-rate of a liquid, a simulated fan-speed tachometer signal representative of a selected fan speed. At least partially in response to observing a simulated tachometer signal, a controller can issue a system command corresponding to an underlying system condition for which the simulated tachometer signal is a proxy.

Abstract: A dust hood for a papermaking system. The hood body has a roof and depending long sidewalls. An inlet extends substantially the entirety of each of the long sidewalls. The hood includes an outlet at one end. The roof is peaked and reaches a peak line. The hood may be positioned at or near floor level and used with air ramps that drive dust toward the inlets.
Abstract: A semiconductor and a method of fabricating the semiconductor having multiple, interconnected die including: providing a semiconductor substrate having a plurality of disparate die formed within the semiconductor substrate, and a plurality of scribe lines formed between pairs of adjacent die of the plurality of disparate die; and fabricating, by a lithography system, a plurality of inter-die connections that extend between adjacent pair of die of the plurality of die.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure describe a system and method for dynamically duplicating network packets onto a reliable link. Network devices can be connected by a primary link and by a secondary link. As the network quality of the first link degrades, the system can adaptively duplicate network packets onto the second link. As a high priority link, the secondary link can have less total bandwidth when compared to the primary link. Accordingly, all the traffic traversing the primary link may not be able to be duplicated onto the secondary link to preserve network reliability when the quality of the first link degrades. The present solution can effectively manage the bandwidth of the secondary link and set duplication rates that control the duplication of the packets onto the secondary link.
Abstract: A pointer for an instrument cluster assembly of a motor vehicle is provided. The pointer includes a pointer arm and a light distributor formed of light conducting material. The pointer arm has a proximal end and a distal end. The light distributor is disposed at the proximal end. The light distributor has a light receiving side and a light reflecting surface. The light distributor is configured to receive rays through the light receiving side. The light reflecting surface is configured to reflect rays into the pointer arm. The light receiving side has an inner portion and an outer portion. The inner portion is disposed closer to the distal end of the pointer arm than the outer portion is with respect to the distal end. Angled surfaces are disposed on the inner portion. The angled surfaces are configured to refract rays toward the light reflecting surface.

Abstract: Described embodiments automatically recover missing or corrupted configuration packages or package caches. Upon detecting a failure of an attempt by an installation agent to uninstall or upgrade software, a management agent may identify affected packages or data. The management agent may retrieve a corresponding version of the package from a storage server. The management agent may extract the configuration package or package cache, and restore the affected package. The installation agent may then proceed with uninstalling or upgrading the software. This process may be iteratively repeated for affected packages until the software is fully uninstalled or upgraded.
Abstract: A below-web dust hood for a papermaking system. The hood body has the general shape of a tapering trapezoidal pyramid, taller at one end than the other. The inlet of the hood body tapers inversely in height—broader where the hood body is shorter, and narrower where the hood body is taller in order to maintain uniform flow across the entire inlet.
Abstract: A positioning control device of an actuator provided with a strain wave gearing has a full-closed control system for feeding back a position of a load shaft, and driving and controlling a motor so as to position the load shaft at a target position. The full-closed control system has an H? compensator designed so that, when a generalized plant having angular transmission error in the strain wave gearing as a disturbance input is assumed, an H? norm of a transfer function from the disturbance input of the generalized plant to an evaluation output is a predetermined value or less. Mechanical vibration during positioning response caused by angular transmission error in the strain wave gearing can be reliably suppressed.
