  • Patent number: 4579389
Abstract: A vehicle seat is disclosed which is provided on its surface with a plurality of intersecting, recessed grooves for decoration. The seat includes a cushion member formed of a foam material and provided on its surface with a plurality of intersecting, recessed grooves. Projections are provided adjacent to the intersections of these recessed grooves, respectively. Such projections can prevent wrinkles from being produced in the intersections of the decorative recessed grooves formed in a top member which is a component of the seat. Specifically, when such top member placed over the cushion member is hung in along the recessed grooves of the cushion member, the recessed grooves for decoration are formed on the surface of the top member. During this hang-in operation, the projections are compressed so that repelling resilient forces are produced in these projections.

  • Patent number: 4571763
Abstract: A cushion member for use in a vehicle seat is disclosed. In this cushion member, a block body formed of a soft foam material is embedded centrally of the bottom portion of a main body of the present cushion member which is formed of a harder foam material. The block body includes side walls that are not integrally connected to the main body, or separated from the main body by hardening/impregnation preventive means, while the upper wall of the block body oriented in a perpendicular direction relative to applied loads is welded integrally to the main body by means of a hardened/impregnated layer produced during formation of the main body. With the present cushion, therefore, loads applied to the cushion member are distributed over the entire block body, and at the same time the main body will not be deformed when the cushion member itself is deformed as the loads are applied thereto.

  • Patent number: 4568106
Abstract: A passive restraint for a vehicle seat comprising a seat belt is disclosed which is designed so as to secure the security of an occupant. In this passive restraint, since a retractor is mounted in the inside front portion of one of side frame sections of a cushion frame and a belt guide is installed in the outside rear portion of the same one side frame section, an input from the seat belt will be little applied to the intermediate portion of the cushion frame, and points of the input is located adjacent to the front and rear points of installation of a slide rail. As a result of this, loads of the seat belt are distributed directly over the side of the slide rail, which offers an advantage to the cushion frame from the standpoint of strength.

  • Patent number: 4565406
Abstract: A lumbar support device is disclosed in which a cam is rotated to longitudinally move an elastic member extending across the right and left sides of a back frame and thus vary the curvature of the elastic member in its longitudinal direction so as to be able to adjust the hardness of the lumbar support portion of a seat back forming part of a vehicle seat. The cam comprises a smaller cam portion mounted at the side of the elastic member to a shaft and a larger cam portion engaged coaxially and integrally with the smaller cam portion and provided at its side facing the smaller cam portion with a guide section having a concavo-convex curved surface with respect to the elastic member. The elastic member is pushed out in accordance with both displacements of the smaller cam portion and the guide section in the larger cam portion so that the curvature of the elastic member is varied accordingly.

  • Patent number: 4558901
Abstract: An arm rest device is disclosed in which a base plate, supported onto a bracket in a seat-back by means of link mechanisms, is mounted to an arm rest body in such a manner to be free to slide fore and aft and is also connected with a connecting pin of the arm rest body by means of a spring. If the arm rest body is pushed against the elastic forces of the spring, then such connection is removed and thus the arm rest body is free to move. Then, if the pressure is released, the connecting pin is caused to engage with a predetermined tooth groove in the base plate so that the angle of the arm rest body is adjusted. Thus, the inclining angle of the arm rest body can be adjusted by pushing it directly, which eliminates the provision for any knob, handle or the like.Further, the arm rest body can be adjusted such that it always maintains its horizontal position even when the seat-back is inclined.
