Abstract: A hybrid acoustic unit operates as an acoustic monopole for frequencies of audio output below a threshold frequency and as an acoustic quadrupole for frequencies above the threshold frequency. A first transducer provides the low frequencies below the threshold frequency while a second transducer provides the high frequencies above the threshold frequency. The low frequencies improve perceived loudness to a user while being masked from bystanders due to ambient noise. A region of an acoustic pattern produced by the acoustic quadrupole is directed towards an ear of the user. This improves audibility to the user while substantially reducing loudness of those high frequencies to bystanders.
Abstract: A system for drilling a well may be adapted to process signals received from a fiber optic cable located in the casing of a previously drilled well or wells. The fiber optic cable may act as a distributed sensor receiving acoustic signals generated during the drilling of the well, and the system may be programmed to process the signals from the fiber optic cable to locate the borehole of the well being drilled, including its location relative to the previously drilled well or well. The system may be used to automatically update a well plan for the well being drilled responsive to information about the location of the borehole and also may be used to automatically adjust one or more drilling parameters or drilling operations responsive to the location of the second well borehole.
Abstract: An apparatus includes a platform that is supported by a first set of load cells. Output from these load cells may be adversely influenced by factors such as temperature, humidity, aging, and so forth. The device includes a second set of load cells that are unloaded, that is they do not support the platform. Output from the first set of load cells is digitized to produce first digital data while output from the second set of load cells is digitized to produce second digital data. The first digital data and the second digital data are processed to produce compensated data. For example, values of the second digital data may be subtracted from values of the first digital data to produce the compensated data. In other implementations, other processing may be used. The resulting compensated data may be used to provide highly accurate weight data about the platform.

Abstract: Aspects of a storage device including a memory and a controller are provided. The memory includes a volatile memory. The controller can determine that at least a portion in the volatile memory is a reusable region based on a host memory allocation from a host device. Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for a local networked storage that is linked to a remote networked storage system. In one embodiment, among others, a computing device obtains a request to read a file stored in a remote networked storage system in association with a user account, in which the request is obtained from a client computing device through a local network. The shadow surface may define a corresponding cooling outlet in fluid communication with an internal cooling channel defined inside of the combustor dome. The cooling outlet may release air from the internal cooling channel to the hot axial side of the combustor dome.

Abstract: A stop device for holding a unit load device in place on decking is described. In one example, the stop device includes a switchable magnet with an actuator to engage or disengage the stop device on decking using a switchable magnetic field of the stop device.
