Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are described for providing an intuitive user interface on a test and measurement instrument. The test and measurement instrument can include container logic, which provides a work mode in which interactions with objects within a container on a display are allowed, and a move mode in which interactions with the objects within the container on the display are temporarily prevented. When in the move mode, the container logic can detect a dragging gesture associated with the container. In response to the dragging gesture, a preview container arrangement is provided overlaying the container arrangement. The container logic can detect a dropping indication, thereby causing the arrangement to snap to the preview container arrangement. Various other user interface controls are provided while in the move mode. In multi-user environments, customized container arrangements may be saved and then later recalled. Containers may be moved among multiple different displays.

  • Patent number: 8754988
Abstract: A single-ended blur detection probe and method with a local sharpness map for analyzing a video image sequence uses two sets of edge filters, one for “fast edges” and the other for “slow edges.” Each set of edge filters includes a horizontal bandpass filter, a vertical bandpass filter and a pair of orthogonal diagonal filters where the frequency response of the fast edge filters overlap the frequency response of the slow edge filters. The video image sequence is input to each filter of each set, and the output absolute values are combined with weighting factors to produce a slow edge weighted sum array and a fast edge weighted sum arra. The respective weighted sum arrays are then decimated to produce a slow edge decimated array and a fast edge decimated array.

  • Patent number: 8736300
Abstract: In one general aspect, a data collection system for a circuit under test implemented as an integrated circuit or using a programmable logic device is disclosed. It comprises a configurable selection network connected to debug nodes of the circuit. The selection network can be reconfigured after implementation of the circuit to route data from selectable debug nodes in the circuit under test to a controller to allow analysis of the circuit. The data collection system can further comprise a configurable data packer. A method of use of the system associates data from the debug nodes with individual debug nodes of the circuit based on a configuration of the configurable selection network or that of the configurable data packer or both. The method and system of the invention allows for efficient data collection from different sets of debug nodes without having to re-implement the circuit.

  • Publication number: 20140140382
Abstract: Described are methods of determining imbalance in an IQ modulator. Example methods include applying a set of at least three test signals to the I channel and Q channel to generate an output, then receiving output from a frequency measuring device coupled to the IQ modulator. Some of the set of test signals may be substantially different than other test signals in the set. After the frequency specific output is received, the method measures one or more values and derives the imbalance in the IQ modulator from the measured values. Embodiments also include adjusting parameters of the test signals until a minimum distance is measured. A device is also described, which includes a test signal generator, an output analyzer, and a minimizer structured to cause the test signal generator to generate a set of test signals that cause a distance measured in the output to be a minimum distance.

  • Publication number: 20140140436
Abstract: An amplitude flatness and phase linearity calibration method for an RF source across a wide frequency bandwidth uses a simple square law diode detector and at least a pair of equal amplitude frequency tones. A baseband generator for the RF source generates the tones, which are applied in series to a correction filter and an up-converter to produce an output RF signal. The tones are stepped across a specified frequency bandwidth, and at each average frequency for the tones a magnitude and group delay is measured as well as a phase for the beat frequency between the tones. The resulting measurements are used to calibrate filter coefficients for the correction filter to assure amplitude flatness and phase linearity across the specified frequency bandwidth.

  • Publication number: 20140139279
Abstract: An automatic quadrature network with amplitude and phase detection produces quadrature signals for an input oscillator signal, the quadrature signals being equal in amplitude and having ideal quadrature phase between them. An RC circuit provides one quadrature path, and a CR circuit provides another quadrature path. The outputs from the RC/CR circuits are amplitude detected to produce an amplitude control signal. The outputs also are amplitude limited, and the phase between the limiter outputs is detected to produce a phase control signal. The amplitude and phase control signals are combined to generate respective control signals for the RC/CR circuits to automatically align them so that the quadrature signals are of equal amplitude and ideal quadrature phase.

  • Publication number: 20140142880
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include methods and instruments for performing combinatorial mask triggering. One or more mask triggers can be configured. Combinatorial mask triggering logic can make various determinations about the relationship between a digitized signal and the one or more mask triggers. The various determinations about the relationship can include considerations of both space and time. When the combinatorial trigger criteria have been satisfied, a trigger signal is generated, and the digital data associated with an incoming signal is stored to memory. The combinatorial mask triggering logic can operate on signals in the frequency domain, the time domain, or both.

  • Patent number: 8731053
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention multiplex elementary streams without timing information coded to create a transport stream. In some embodiments, ‘n’ number of access units are constructed and pushed into a list one by one. Each access unit is capable of looking ahead to obtain information on timing for the next access unit. A header is constructed by calculating timing information from the topmost access unit of the list. Said header is written in the transport stream and the remaining bytes of the transport stream are filled with data from the said elementary stream. Thus the transport stream is constructed.

  • Patent number: 8714988
Abstract: A connector has a housing with an aperture formed therein having one portion larger than the other portion. The housing is mounted on the device under test with the housing positioned over a plurality of electrical contacts. An electrical load is positioned within the larger aperture of the housing and has a plurality of resistors disposed adjacent to an electrical contact assembly. A resilient member is positioned between the electrical load and the device under test such that a force directed on the electrical load compresses the resilient member to allow contact between a plurality of electrical contacts of the electrical contact assembly and the plurality of the electrical contacts on the device under test. Removing the force decompresses the resilient member and disconnects the plurality of contacts of the electrical contact assembly from the plurality of electrical contacts of the device under test.

  • Publication number: 20140120857
Abstract: An integrated calibrator provides for magnitude and phase response calibration of RF receivers to produce amplitude flatness and phase linearity across the frequency range of the RF receiver by using a simple square law diode detector and a frequency-stepped two-tone source. A two-tone source generator provides two sinusoidal signals separated by a specified frequency delta about a center frequency. The center frequency is stepped across the bandwidth of the RF receiver. At each center frequency the two sinusoidal signals are input to the RF receiver and to the diode detector. The two sinusoidal signals are processed by both the receiver path and the calibrator path, and the results are used by the calibrator to generate coefficients for a correction filter in the receiver path at each of the stepped center frequencies.
