  • Patent number: 7133465
Abstract: A precoding circuit for minimizing distortion of an input signal in a communication channel having a compound transfer function in the Z-Domain: H(z)=(1+a1.z?1+a2.z?2+a3.z31 3+ . . . +an.z?n)/(1+b1.z?+b2.z?2+b?3.z?3+ . . . +bp.z?p). A feedback circuit comprises a first FIR filter and a transfer function corresponding to the inverse of a feedforward part of a transfer function of the communication channel. A feedforward circuit comprises a second FIR filter and a transfer function corresponding to the inverse of a feedback part of a transfer function of the communication channel. A first subtracting circuit subtracts a feedback signal of the feedback circuit from a feedforward signal of the feedforward circuit and outputs a difference signal which is added to a transmit end signal by a first adding circuit.

  • Patent number: 7031443
Abstract: An improved system and method for remote access from a variety of remote clients to an office telephone is provided. In the preferred embodiment, access to an office information center is through the Internet using a web-compliant remote client. The office information center includes a web server having a web page stored thereon and a PBX system. During a remote session, incoming calls to the PBX are routed to the remote client in real time. In addition, the remote client is able to view, manage and control voice mail messages using all the functions programmed to the office telephone from the remote client. Upon termination of the remote session, PBX ports are re-established to the office telephone and any alternations made by the remote client are updated.

  • Patent number: 6999431
Abstract: A voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) directory service for communications users of an enterprise locates a telephone or work station of a called party for the purpose of setting up real-time communication, either from a pulse code modulation (PCM) telephone or from an Internet protocol (IP) telephone, or a computer by way of the world wide web, using a common directory database. Once the directory entry has been found, it may be immediately called through use of translated addresses assigned to the selected called party device.

  • Patent number: 6944215
Abstract: A method for transmitting data through an analogue channel from an analogue modem to a digital modem includes encoding data inputted to the analogue modem. An encoder encodes data inputted into the analogue modem into corresponding constellation points of a one-dimensional constellation. During initial handshaking a microprocessor in the digital modem computes the constellation points of the constellation so that mid points between adjacent constellation points coincide with mid points between adjacent codec levels. The computed constellation points of the constellation are transmitted along with the value of the largest constellation point and its corresponding codec level to the analogue modem. By selecting the mid points between the constellation points to correspond with mid points between adjacent codec levels the noise margin is significantly enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6829249
Abstract: A system and method is designed for upgrading a digital PBX used with a pulse code modulation (PCM) telephone system by providing an interface card connected to the back plane of the PBX. The interface card acts as a replacement for the digital key set cards normally used with the back plane of such a PBX. The interface card is designed with circuitry to process voice-encoded packet data directly from a LAN to the PCM data used within the PBX network, and to process PCM data from the telephone network to voice coded packet data on the LAN to provide a voice-over Internet protocol and interface with the telephone system connected with and controlled by the PBX.

  • Patent number: 6798874
Abstract: A telephone system and method is provided including a processing system, such as a CTI system, in communication with a PBX and one or more telephone sets. The user selects a pre-programmed canned message, such as a DND message or status-state, from a list of messages and may further define the message with a user-defined message. The PBX recognizes the canned message and funnels the message to the processing system. The processing system matches the canned message and possibly the user-defined message to a software application stored in the processing system and corresponding to the messages. The user may program the software application to perform a specific function which may be stored in the processing system. The software application is launched and the telephone can be returned to a normal operating state regardless of whether the launched application has completed the intended task.

  • Patent number: 6760427
Abstract: An enhanced computer telephony (CT) network design for a private branch exchange (PBX) telephone system network improves the computer telephony interface (CTI) capabilities of the network. Bi-directional data from remote telephone switching nodes of different PBX systems, each using a common software application, is combined into a single data stream by the network to simplify control of the remote PBX systems. Commands to, and events received from, the different PBX switching nodes are combined by use of a gateway to automatically and transparently route digital information for control of the correct remote system node.

  • Patent number: 6754187
Abstract: A system for ensuring optimum performance of a modem used in conjunction with a telephone system employing a digital PBX coupled with a two-wire analog trunk includes an echo cancellation circuit having an adaptive filter connected in series circuit with a linear codec between the digital PBX and a two-to-four wire hybrid converter coupled with the two-wire analog telephone trunk. The combination of the echo canceller and the linear codec allows accurate decoding of weak far end modem signals when such signals are summed with a strong near end modem signal echo. The DSP echo canceller removes the very strong near end modem echo and passes the far end modem signal with little distortion, while the linear codec permits accurate recovery of the weak far end signal in the presence of high noise levels.

  • Patent number: 6567465
Abstract: A DSL modem with a receiver and a transmitter includes an LDPC encoder which utilizes a generation matrix G which is derived from a substantially deterministic H matrix in order to generate redundant parity bits for a block of bits. The H matrix is determined by assigning “ones” of a first column Nj randomly or deterministically. Then, beginning with the second column, assignment of “ones” is carried out deterministically with each “1” in a previous ancestor column generating a “1” in the next descendant column based on the rule that a descendant is placed one position below or above an ancestor. As a result, descending or ascending diagonals are generated. When distributing “ones” in any given column, care is taken to ensure that no rectangles are generated in conjunction with other “ones” in the current column and previous columns. By avoiding generation of rectangles, diagonals are interrupted.

  • Patent number: 6560277
Abstract: A method for determining the encoding law of an incoming signal in a network which possibly contains an A-&mgr; or &mgr;-A conversion includes obtaining digital impairment learning (DIL) probing data, generating an ordered table of levels therefrom, using the table to find two functions, and using a logical analysis of the functions to determine the encoding law of the signal. A first function is a maximum from the values DL(i) and the threshold Th1 which are less than T(i), with T(i)=a+bi, and DL(i)=L(i+16)−2L(i) with L(i) being the DIL signal corresponding to the transmitted Ucode=i.

  • Patent number: 6549614
Abstract: A server located at a first location for recording and managing communications for transcription generated at a second location. Clients contact the server to store communications for transcription. The client is given the option to create a user configurable profile that defines user identification data and recording options for that client. The user identification data includes a user identification number and an audible user identification which is associated with each user identification number. The communications are recorded based on the recording options in the user configurable profile. Exemplary recording options include file integrity and audio archiving. The server also provides the user with the ability to withhold a recording for completion at a later time.
