  • Patent number: 4192459
Abstract: The rail anchor system includes two pins and two clips. Each pin extends through a horizontal transverse bore in a cross-tie. The pins have extensions at each end exposed on both sides of the cross-tie and the bores are parallel to and substantially within the outer edges of the bottom flange of the rail which sits on the cross-tie. Two resilient clips form a part of the system. Each clip has a looped section, a hooked extension extending from one end of the looped section and a lever extension extending from the other end of the loop section. A clip is used on each side of the tie with the loop sections engaging the pin extensions of opposite pins and the lever extensions being locked by opposite pins when the respective hooks are in engagement with the cross-tie.

  • Patent number: 4191202
Abstract: A polarity control valve enables the undiscriminating interconnection of a pressure line and a return line to two available ports to provide fluid pressure at an output line and a return connection through a return port. This feature of interconnecting either the pressure line or the return line to any of the two available ports is achieved by a pressure positionable spool mounted in a ported sleeve. The spool is positionable between one of two positions depending upon which port is connected to the pressure line. By controlling the distribution of lands on the spool the position thereof always establishes a fluid path from the pressure line to an output port connected to a fluid pressure responsive component. Fluid returning from the component is likewise directed by means of the positionable spool to the return line.

  • Patent number: 4185509
Abstract: The invention contemplates an improved mechanical traction drive providing a single control whereby a desired range of speed ratios between input and output shafts is selectively available, without requiring clutch connection to the power source, such as an internal-combustion engine. The transmission involves a combination of completely mechanical friction-roller and meshing-gear planetary systems which are connected at all times, whether the single control is operated to call for a forward drive, a stop or a reverse drive of the output shaft. For the particular disclosed forms, provision is made for automatic downshifting reaction to increasing load, and major axial-reaction forces are self-contained by rotating mechanism, thus (a) avoiding substantial axial force components on main-bearings of the mechanism, and (b) reducing to very small magnitudes the requisite force for selective control actuation.

  • Patent number: 4184238
Abstract: A skirt-like device attached to the exit end of a rocket engine nozzle is fabricated of thin sheet heat resistant metal; which when extended in operative condition is in frustoconical form, but which prior to engine firing is pleat-folded inwardly into a stowed position relative to the exit end of the rocket engine nozzle. Thus, prior to engine firing the device adds little or nothing to the engine/nozzle occupancy space; but incident to engine firing the device deploys to provide an effective engine nozzle/skirt combination of increased length and exit diameter/area; said combination having an inner surface of constant slope.

  • Patent number: 4180921
Abstract: The device comprises a stand having a display section inclined slightly to the horizontal, and a selector section projecting from the forward edge of the display section. A plurality of narrow recesses are formed in the face of the display section in parallel rows and intersecting columns; and each recess is designed to hold a folded spectacle frame. A plurality of selector strips are mounted for reciprocation in parallel grooves formed in the face of the selector section. Numerals on the face of each strip register one by one with an opening formed in the panel adjacent one end of each strip so that for each different position of a strip a different one of its numerals will be viewable through the associated opening. A spectacle frame selector pad is mounted on the selector section adjacent the selector strips, and has thumb tabs marked for different ranges of numerals that may be displayed by the selector strips.

  • Patent number: 4180243
Abstract: An automatic and manual linear reversion control mechanism for a hydraulic servo actuator assembly is disclosed for linearly transferring control between an automatic (fly by wire) control mechanism and a manual control mechanism. A command select mechanism includes two axially aligned pins mounted on a rigid command selector bar, with the first pins slidably mounted in a slot in a control bar of the manual control mechanism and the second pin slidably mounted in a slot in the control bar of the automatic control mechanism so that movement of the command selector bar to displace the two axially aligned pins in their associated slots provides a linear transfer of control of the hydraulic assembly between the manual control and the automatic control.

  • Patent number: 4174640
Abstract: The invention contemplates an improved traction-drive transmission of the variety in which plural planet wheels are radially displaceable in orbital motion about an axially opposed pair of axially shiftable sun wheels and within an axially opposed pair of rotationally fixed reaction rings, said planet wheels having constant angular-contact with the wheels and rings of both pairs. An axially fixed pivotal reference between the sun wheels is used for linked connection of the sun wheels such that displacement of the respective sun wheels is always equal in magnitude but in opposite axial directions with respect to the axially fixed reference, thus assuring that the instantaneous radius of planet-wheel orbit between the sun wheel and reaction ring on one axial side of the fixed reference will at all times match the instantaneous radius of planet-wheel orbit between the sun wheel and reaction ring on the other axial side of the fixed reference.
