Abstract: In a woven slide fastener employing spaced coupling elements molded on connecting threads wherein the weft thread loops around the connecting threads between each element to secure the coupling elements to the edge of the tape, the connecting threads are reinforced between the elements by molded projections, sheaths, webs, or the like integral with the coupling elements. Additionally there are disclosed offset heel portions of coupling element legs to increase slider flange engaging surfaces.

Each end member of each inner member includes first groove means which extends inwardly from its central portion and second groove means which extends inwardly from the bottom wall of the first groove means and then from the first groove means towards the adjacent portion of the central opening of the inner member for receiving the bendable tab means so that the outer shell is secured to the inner member by the tab means and end portions of the tab means are positioned at least in the second groove means.

Abstract: Each of the carrier tapes of a slide fastener include respective pairs of superimposed layers or plies of highly oriented polymer through which stitching threads are secured to attach coupling elements to each tape. The molecular orientation of each of the superimposed layers is at an oblique angle to the inner edge of the tapes with the orientation of one layer being transverse to the orientation of the other layer to prevent tearing of the stitches from the tapes.
Abstract: A pair of self-clamping couplings are secured to the opposite walls of a feeder duct. The ends of a pair of branch ducts are respectively supported on the couplings. A cover closes off the space between the branch ducts and is held in position by engagement with the ends of the branch ducts.
Abstract: Molded top stops for a slide fastener have inner edges extending substantially in alignment with the inner edges of the interlocking elements and have bottom edges extending at acute angles upward and away from the interlocking elements. Further, during the molding of the top stops, extra interlocking element sections and the like are trimmed by trimming edge features on a horn tip cooperating with an anvil portion of a die.
Abstract: A skirt-like device attached to the exit end of a rocket engine nozzle is fabricated of thin sheet heat resistant metal; which when extended in operative condition is in frustoconical form, but which prior to engine firing is pleat-folded inwardly into a stowed position relative to the exit end of the rocket engine nozzle. Thus, prior to engine firing the device adds little or nothing to the engine/nozzle occupancy space; but incident to engine firing the device deploys to provide an effective engine nozzle/skirt combination of increased length and exit diameter/area; such combination having an inner surface of constant slope.
Abstract: An economical rotary index table holds workpieces on machine tool beds and tables, changing rotational position in angular increments with precision. Accurate angular indexing is achieved by a curvic coupling with meshing radial teeth disengageably connecting an axially movable locking plate to the juxtaposed facing rotational worktable member, separate and apart from the drive system. An annular, axially expansible pneumatic chamber is employed to engage and disengage the curvic coupling teeth, alternately locking the worktable in the desired angular orientation, and unlocking it for angular indexing movement. In the preferred embodiment, the movable angular indexing apparatus of the present invention incorporates automatic counting means for precisely determining the degree of rotation and automatic stop means for preventing further rotation when the desired position has been reached.

Abstract: A port in the cylinder wall of a two-stroke cycle engine is connected by a passage and a restricted orifice with the idle reservoir of a diaphragm type carburetor. The idle reservoir is connected through an adjustable idle mixture valve with the metering chamber. The passage from the engine port is connected by a vent passage with the venturi of the carburetor. The dry side of the metering diaphragm is vented by a restricted opening and is connected with the dry side of a crankcase pressure operated fuel pump through a passageway having therein a check valve and a valve which is open when the choke valve is closed. This connection allows pressure pulses from the crankcase to influence fuel flow so that the desired fuel flow is obtained under more than one engine operating condition. In addition fuel is introduced directly into the crankcase at idle speeds instead of into the throttle bore giving more stable idle condition.
Abstract: A plurality of spaced fastener elements are molded onto parallel filaments. A pair of leg portions of each fastening element have, respectively, a projection and an opening, the projection and opening mating to interlock the leg portions. The fastening elements are formed by directing the parallel filaments to a cavity wheel which has mold cavities enclosed by a band, and then injecting plastic material through gas openings in the band into the mold cavities to form a train of fastener elements on the parallel filaments.

Abstract: There is disclosed a fastener assembly including a fastener or screw member having a head portion and an externally threaded body portion, and an improved novel washer design pre-assembled thereon and held in captive relation by the external thread form. The washer member comprises a frusto-conical body section which includes surfaces converging in a direction away from the fastener drive head, in contrast to the normal accepted practice of employing washer which surfaces converge toward the drive head. From this reversal of design numerous manufacturing and operational advantages result, most particularly when the washer includes a plurality of axially extending teeth disposed radially about the convex face thereof. When the assembly is engaged with a nut or a workpiece to clamp or join structural elements, the fastener head portion will bear directly over the teeth of the washer member urging them into biting engagement with the adjacent surface regardless of the degree of final assembly.
Abstract: A tracer mechanism having a stylus to scan the surface of a pattern or a template and to cause a congruent relative movement of a cutter and a workpiece, whereby to reproduce the contour of the pattern or template in the workpiece. The stylus is provided with an axial force element which can adjustably vary the endwise thrust of the stylus, thereby to vary the reaction force of the stylus against the workpiece. As a consequence, the stylus can be caused more accurately to track the pattern or template along a tracing plane, especially on a pattern which has a steep slope that tilts laterally relative to the tracing plane. Means is also disclosed to utilize the axial force element in a machine tool table control wherein a "box-cycle" movement is made in which the cutting tool is withdrawn from the workpiece, is stepped to a new tracing plane, and is returned in a non-cutting motion to the starting point of a subsequent cutting movement parallel to the first one.
Abstract: A binder seal or reinforcing and finishing strip for the end of a slide fastener has an outer layer of Nylon 6 and an inner layer of a blend of Nylon 6 and Nylon 6-6. The seal is clear permitting the color of the slide fastener to be visible therethrough.
Abstract: A rapidly reversible air propeller shroud system is provided for operating an air cushion vehicle more efficiently both in forward and reverse direction travel and maneuvering modes. The shroud includes a sectionally rigid portion of aerodynamically efficient form for operating the vehicle in one direction of travel; and in combination therewith an otherwise inoperative inflatable collar which may be rapidly inflated to expand so as to modify the aerodynamic characteristics of the shroud for operation of the propeller efficiently in reverse direction thrust mode.
Abstract: Sorbent cords are saturated with a liquid lubricant and secured in the respective tapes of a slide fastener adjacent the coupling elements to provide lubrication for a slider of the slide fastener.
Abstract: A gap is formed in a slide fastener chain by cutting out a section of the interlocking fastening elements and the inner longitudinal edge portions of tapes supporting the fastening elements to be removed. A narrow band bordering the gap is formed by compressing and fusing thermoplastic threads in the tapes adjacent the gap.
