  • Patent number: 11152854
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods and circuits of a hybrid converter family that allows using a combination of a switched multiple capacitor network and a number of inductors in order to a power conversion from an input to an output that may require a large conversion ratio, high output current, low output voltage, and/or high input voltage. The disclosed circuits and methods can be applied to today's switching regulators and allow them to provide the same power conversion function with less number of power conversion stages, smaller passive components, and less number of active components, and therefore, reduce the implementation space to save cost as well as improve efficiency. Sample applications include, but are not limited to, point-of-load power converters for data centers, telecommunication systems and other high-performance electronic systems.

  • Publication number: 20210315706
Abstract: A spinal implant device comprising a frame and a plurality of mechanical stiffness members extending from the frame, with the plurality of mechanical stiffness members being individually customized to provide a specific axial stiffness. The plurality of mechanical stiffness members may be coupled to the frame, and the plurality of mechanical stiffness members may be a plurality of wave-spring modules. A method of treating spinal disease includes determining actual spatial mechanical properties across a vertebral contact surface of a vertebra of a patient. The method may also include manufacturing a spinal implant device that has conforming spatial mechanical properties that are specific to the patient and that are based on the actual spatial mechanical properties of the vertebral contact surface. The method may include surgically implanting the spinal implant device against the vertebral contact surface such that the actual spatial mechanical properties and the conforming spatial mechanical properties align.

  • Patent number: 11145100
Abstract: Novel tools and techniques are provided for implementing three-dimensional facial modeling and visual speech synthesis. In various embodiments, a computing system might determine an orientation, size, and location of a face in a received input image; retrieve a three-dimensional model template comprising a face and head; project the input image onto the model template to generate a three-dimensional model; define, on the model, a polygon mesh in a region of facial feature corresponding to feature in the input image; adjust parameters on the model; and display the model. The computing system might parse a text string into allophonic units; encode each allophonic unit into a point(s) in linguistic space corresponding to mouth movements; retrieve, from a codebook, indexed images/morphs corresponding to encoded points in the linguistic space; render the indexed images/morphs into an animation of the three-dimensional model; synchronize, for output, the animation with audio representations of the text string.

  • Patent number: 11143721
Abstract: A probe beam is passed through a first optically pumped magnetometer vapor cell portion that has a first magnetic bias field orientation relative to a pump beam. The probe beam is also passed through a second optically pumped magnetometer vapor cell portion that has a second magnetic bias field orientation relative to the pump beam with the same properties as in the first portion, where the first magnetic bias field orientation is opposite to that of the second magnetic bias field orientation. This configuration reduces or eliminates linearly polarized magnetic signals (e.g., noise) from the output probe beam and passes circularly polarized magnetic signals. Thus, the intensity of the probe beam after passing through the first and second optically pumped magnetometer vapor cell portions is measured to obtain a noise suppressed signal.

  • Patent number: 11137409
Abstract: In some embodiments, the invention provides methods for detecting an aberrant fibrinolysis condition in a patient. The method includes subjecting a blood sample from the patient to a viscoelastic analysis in the presence of a known amount of a thrombolytic agent, to obtain a coagulation characteristic value of the patient; and comparing the coagulation characteristic value of the patient to a coagulation characteristic value of a healthy individual, the coagulation characteristic value of the healthy individual obtained by subjecting a blood sample from a healthy individual to the viscoelastic analysis in the presence of the known amount of the thrombolytic agent, wherein a difference in the coagulation characteristic value of the patient as compared to the coagulation characteristic value of the healthy individual identifies the patent as having aberrant fibrinolysis.

  • Patent number: 11129543
Abstract: A process for more sensitive characterization of tissue composition for generating a quantitative MRI (qMRI) map and corresponding delta analysis. Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), resulting in the depletion of hydrophilic glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) located in the nucleus pulposus (NP), can lead to debilitating neck and back pain. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a promising means of IVD assessment due to the correlation between GAG content and MRI relaxation values. T1 and T2 relaxation data were obtained from healthy cervical IVDs, and relaxation data was modeled using both conventional and stretched exponential (SE) decays. Normalized histograms of the resultant quantitative MRI (qMRI) maps were fit with stable distributions. SE models fit relaxation behavior with lower error compared to monoexponential models, indicating anomalous relaxation behavior in healthy IVDs. SE model parameters T1 and T1 increased with IVD segment, while conventional monoexponential measures did not vary.

  • Publication number: 20210293643
Abstract: Various embodiments of the present technology generally relate to robotics and prosthetics. More specifically, some embodiments of the present technology relate to multi-modal fingertip sensors with proximity, contact, and for localization capabilities. Various embodiments of the present technology provide for a novel multi-modal tactile sensor which comprises an infrared proximity sensor and a barometric pressure sensor embedded in an elastomer layer. Signals from both of these sensors can be fused to measure proximity (0-10 mm), contact (0N), force (0-50N) and localize impact at five spatial locations and three angles of incidence. Gaussian processes in a regression setting can be used to obtain calibrated force measurements with an R-squared value of 0.99. Supervised machine learning approaches can be used to localize the position and direction of probing with classification accuracies of 96% and 89% respectively.

  • Publication number: 20210285471
Abstract: An electro-hydraulic actuator includes a deformable shell defining an enclosed internal cavity and containing a liquid dielectric, first and second electrodes on first and second sides, respectively, of the enclosed internal cavity. An electrostatic force between the first and second electrodes upon application of a voltage to one of the electrodes draws the electrodes towards each other to displace the liquid dielectric within the enclosed internal cavity. The shell includes active and inactive areas such that the electrostatic forces between the first and second electrodes displaces the liquid dielectric within the enclosed internal cavity from the active area of the shell to the inactive area of the shell. The first and second electrodes, the deformable shell, and the liquid dielectric cooperate to form a self-healing capacitor, and the liquid dielectric is configured for automatically filling breaches in the liquid dielectric resulting from dielectric breakdown.
