    Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing latency in use of mobile applications include creating a list of potential internet requests from a mobile application based on an analysis of the mobile application. The systems and methods include creating a trigger map that maps each of a plurality of trigger points of the mobile application with a corresponding target internet request to be prefetched from the list of potential internet requests. The systems and methods include creating a URL map that maps each of a plurality of the potential internet requests with corresponding URL values. The systems and methods include identifying that a current app function matches a trigger point of the plurality of trigger points. The systems and methods include performing the potential internet request in response to identifying that the current app function matches the trigger point prior to the target request being received in order to reduce latency.

    Abstract: An open coiled pacemaker lead is provided that has improved structural stability and functional life in vivo. The open coiled lead includes an electrically conductive material that is coated or covered by a thin layer of electrically insulative material. The coated coiled lead has adequate spacing between adjacent coils, and has a lumen of sufficient diameter, to allow for infiltration of biological connective tissue onto the surface of the coated coil when maintained in vivo for a sufficient amount of time. Infiltration of the connective tissue essentially uniformly along the entire coiled lead strengthens and lengthens the functional life of the coated coil lead.

    Abstract: A swallow exerciser device that exercises and thereby strengthens the muscles involved in swallowing includes a rigid shell, an adjustable fastener, and an inflatable pad. The rigid shell has a longitudinal dimension such that the shell extends above and below the larynx of the subject when the swallow exerciser device is positioned over the larynx of the subject. The adjustable fastener is dimensioned to secure the shell around a neck of the subject with the shell positioned over the larynx of the subject. The inflatable pad is connected to a proximal surface of the shell. The inflatable pad is dimensioned to apply resistance to force of at least one swallowing muscle of the subject when the shell positioned over the larynx of the subject and when the inflatable pad is in an inflated position. The swallow exerciser device can be used in a method for improving swallowing function in a subject.

    Abstract: A system for exhaust gas remediation includes an engine, a plasma reactor, and a pulse source. The engine emits exhaust gas that includes NO molecules and NOx molecules. The plasma reactor includes an internal chamber that is fluidly connected to the engine such that the exhaust gas flows into the internal chamber. An electrode is disposed within the internal chamber of the plasma reactor. The electrode is electrically coupled to an electrical pulse source. The electrical pulse source delivers electrical pulse to the electrode to form a plasma from the exhaust gas, which removes at least a portion of the NO molecules and at least a portion of the NOx molecules.

    Abstract: Histologic classification of pathology specimens through machine learning is a nascent field which offers tremendous potential to improve cancer medicine. Its utility has been limited, in part because of differences in tissue preparation and the relative paucity of well-annotated images. We introduce tissue recognition, an unsupervised learning problem analogous to human face recognition, in which the goal is to identify individual tumors using a learned set of histologic features. This feature set is the “tissue fingerprint.” Because only specimen identities are matched to fingerprints, constructing an algorithm for producing them is a self-learning task that does not need image metadata annotations. Here, we provide an algorithm for self-learning tissue fingerprints, that, in conjunction with color normalization, can match hematoxylin and eosin stained tissues to one of 104 patients with 93% accuracy.

    Abstract: Described herein is a method to create dendritic biocompatible polymers from pairs of complementary dendritic nucleic acid monomers in a controlled manner, using polymerization triggers. The dendritic monomers are constituted of nucleic acids and an organic polymer capable of self-assembly. A variety of additional improvements are described herein, including processes not requiring snap cooling, “wobble clamp” designs to confer a transitory measure of hairpin stability prior to branch migration, and multiple assemblies of amplifying systems. Depending on the context this technology could be used to reveal the presence of a large variety of analytes such as specific nucleic acid molecules, small molecules, proteins, and peptides.

    Abstract: Thin parylene C membranes having smooth front sides and ultrathin regions (e.g., 0.01 ?m to 5 ?m thick) interspersed with thicker regions are disclosed. The back sides of the membranes can be rough compared with the smooth front sides. The membranes can be used in vitro to grow monolayers of cells in a laboratory or in vivo as surgically implantable growth layers, such as to replace the Bruch's membrane in the eye. The thin regions of parylene are semipermeable to allow for proteins in serum to pass through, and the thick regions give mechanical support for handling by a surgeon. The smooth front side allows for monolayer cell growth, and the rough back side helps prevents cells from attaching there.
