  • Patent number: 9707704
Abstract: A method for applying a magnetic element to a surface includes the steps of providing a magnetized surface capable of holding a magnetic element, providing a substrate having a surface to be modified by the addition of the magnetic element, bringing the magnetic element into contact with the surface of the substrate, eliminating the magnetism of the magnetized surface to create an un-magnetized surface, and withdrawing the un-magnetized surface from contact with the surface of the substrate, thereby leaving behind the magnetic element on the surface of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 9711126
Abstract: The subject matter described herein includes an approach for wave-based sound propagation suitable for large, open spaces spanning hundreds of meters, with a small memory footprint. The scene is decomposed into disjoint rigid objects. The free-field acoustic behavior of each object is captured by a compact per-object transfer-function relating the amplitudes of a set of incoming equivalent sources to outgoing equivalent sources. Pairwise acoustic interactions between objects are cornuted analytically, yielding compact inter-object transfer functions. The global sound field accounting for all orders of interaction is computed using these transfer functions. The runtime system uses fast summation over the outgoing equivalent source amplitudes for all objects to auralize the sound field at a moving listener in real-time. We demonstrate realistic acoustic effects such as diffraction, low-passed sound behind obstructions, focusing, scattering, high-order reflections, and echoes, on a variety of scenes.

  • Patent number: 9710515
Abstract: This analysis system analyzes the behavior of a DBMS in a computer system having a computer which executes tasks in parallel and reads data from a database (DB) when executing a query. This analysis system acquires the number of selected rows corresponding to a key value of an index key used in the query, and calculates a model-based predicted degree of processing parallelism of the processing corresponding to the query. The system acquires, from the storage device, event information on an input-output event with respect to the storage medium when the processing corresponding to the query is executed actually, calculates a measured degree of processing parallelism when the processing corresponding to the query is executed actually, based on the event information, and displays information based on the model-based predicted degree of processing parallelism and the measured degree of processing parallelism.

  • Patent number: 9711948
Abstract: A terahertz source implementing a {hacek over (C)}erenkov difference-frequency generation scheme in a quantum cascade laser. The laser includes an undoped or semi-insulating InP substrate with an exit facet that is polished at an angle between 10° to 40°. The laser further includes a first waveguide cladding layer(s) in contact with an active layer (arranged as a multiple quantum well structure) and a current extraction layer on top of the substrate. Furthermore, the laser includes a second waveguide cladding layer(s) on top of the active layer, where the first and second waveguide cladding layers are disposed to form a waveguide structure by which terahertz radiation generated in the active layer is guided inside the laser. The terahertz radiation is emitted into the substrate at a {hacek over (C)}erenkov angle relative to a direction of the nonlinear polarization wave in the active layer, and once in the substrate, propagates towards the exit facet.
