Abstract: A small amount of an absorber mixture comprising activated aluminum oxide and potassium permanganate deodorizes the space within closed, gastight packs, in particular the space within packs of the type in which objects or materials which comprise polyacetal or otherwise release formaldehyde are present. Deodorization here is the removal (i.e. elimination or absorption) of volatile constituents emerging from plastic moldings or from plastic materials, in particular cleavage products, such as formaldehyde. The process is particularly suitable for the packaging of moldings or of assemblies which are to be used in the medical sector, in the food and drink sector or in any other sector affecting health.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a cycloolefin copolymer by polymerization of 0.1-99.0 wt %, with respect to the total amount of monomers, of at least one polycyclic, 0-99.9 wt. %, with respect to the total amount of monomers, of at least one moncyclic olefin, and 0.1-99.9 wt. %, with respect to the total amount of monomers, of at least one acyclic 1-olefin, in the presence of a catalyst system consisting of at least one cocatalyst and at least one metallocene.

Abstract: A process for the gas-phase trimerization of formaldehyde to give trioxane using solid phosphoric acid catalysts. Particularly suitable catalysts for this process are SPA catalysts (solid phosphorous acid), for example “silicon phosphates”. The main advantage of this catalyst system is its simple and inexpensive production and ready availability and also, in particular, its improved long-term stability compared to the few previously described catalysts which are mostly based on supported heteropolyacids.

Abstract: Aluminum salts of alkylhydroxymethylphosphinic acids are prepared by reacting phosphonous acids with aluminum hydroxide or paraformaldehyde or trioxane or mixtures thereof in water at 110 to 250° C. under pressure. The resulting aluminumphosphinates are incorporated into polymers, in particular into polyesters, and have a flame retardant action therein.
Abstract: Process for producing a composite article from a polyacetal (component a) with directly molded-on functional elements made from one or more thermoplastic elastomers (component b), and wherein components a and b have differing hardness, and the material with the greater hardness (component a) is initially premolded in a first step in a mold, and then is either cooled and removed from the mold and then placed into another, larger cavity, or is partially removed from the mold, but remains in a portion of the mold, and is then moved to a larger cavity, or, without removal from the mold, remains in the same mold, which is enlarged by means of a movable device, and in a second step, by overmolding with the material with the lesser hardness (component b), the molding formed from component a is firmly bonded to this material and is then removed from the mold as a composite article.
Abstract: Aluminum salts of phosphinic acid or diphosphinic acids having alkyl and/or aryl substitutes, obtainable by heating an ester of the corresponding phosphinic acids or diphosphinic acids with aluminum hydroxide at a temperature of more than 150° C. under pressure in the presence of water, are distinguished by a particular crystal structure and are suitable as flameproofing agents for plastics.
Abstract: Salt mixtures made from aluminum phosphinates, aluminum hydroxide and/or aluminum phosphonates and/or aluminum phosphates are thermally stable and are suitable as flame retardants for polymeric molding compositions, in particular for polyesters and polyamides. The use of these salt mixtures is more effective and more cost-effective than the use of aluminum phosphinates alone.
Abstract: Polyaryiene sulfone fiber material, especially web, is obtained by oxidizing polyarylene sulfide fiber material with a peracid/acid mixture of an organic acid at 60 to 100° C. for 10 seconds to 45 minutes. Since this process provides a substantative degree of oxidation within a very short reaction time, one advantage of the process is that the rapidity of the oxidation renders continuous processes for oxidizing polyarylene sulfide fibers economical.

Abstract: Abstract A process for purifying formaldehyde in which the formaldehyde is scrubbed with alcohol in an absorption unit and in the course of this reacted virtually completely to form the hemiformal and is simultaneously separated off from gaseous impurities in a first purification step. In a desorption unit, the residual impurities are then converted into a gaseous state and separated off from the liquid hemiformal, whereupon the purified hemiformal is thermally cleaved into alcohol and formaldehyde in a pyrolysis unit. The formaldehyde thus prepared is suitable, for example, for preparing oligomers, polymers, dyestuffs and fertilizers, as well as for the treatment of seeds.
