  • Patent number: 4203603
Abstract: A flipper mechanism for use in pinball and pinball type games can be constructed so as to utilize an elongated, linear channel serving as a bearing extending between the sides of the housing for the game and behind the playing platform employed in the game. Two plungers are located within the channel and are normally biased away from one another by a spring located within the channel between the plungers. Each plunger is connected to an arm of a bell crank lever by means of a pin and slot sliding connection. An arm of each bell crank lever is pivotally mounted so as to be capable of being pivoted when its associated plunger is pushed against the spring. The other arm of each bell crank lever is located above the playing platform so as to serve as a flipper as its associated plunger is pushed.

  • Patent number: 4200284
Abstract: A game can be constructed so as to include a receptacle located on a base in such a manner that the receptacle is moved in an endless path as the game is played. The receptacle used is adapted to carry a plurality of objects and to discharge such objects as the game is played. A plurality of actuating structures are provided on the base for causing the discharge of objects from the receptacle. Each of these actuating structures includes a manually operated actuator and a contact member which is moved when the actuator is operated. The contact members are capable of being moved so as to cause the discharge of an object carried by the receptacle as the receptacle is moved adjacent to the contact member during its travel in the endless path. The receptacle may be shaped as an egg-laying animal and the actuator structures may be used to cause the animal discharge simulated eggs.

  • Patent number: 4195423
Abstract: A toy cash register device which closely simulates the operation of an actual real life cash register having a plurality of program plates depicting thereon various items of merchandise and monetary values therefore with each plate having a total value for each grouping of items thereon. The device is entirely actuated and operated by tensioned springs and no other source of power is required for actuating thereof. An OPEN button releases a cash drawer for positive opening under other spring mechanism. Coordinated with a program plate inserted into the device are latching pawls associated with respective monetary keys. Each program plate is provided with precoded channels along respective edges thereof which in cooperation with the latching pawls require operation of correct keys before a "ring up" occurs and simultaneously therewith a ding of an internal bell occurs.

  • Patent number: 4195742
Abstract: A coupler for toy and model railway cars includes a pivotable coupler member having a coupler knuckle adapted to engage a complementary knuckle on an adjacent car. The coupler member is mounted for pivoting movement between a lower position substantially parallel to a trackway and an upper position and is normally maintained in the lower position by magnetic attraction existing between two permanent magnets secured, respectively, to the coupler member and to a support. Cars may be uncoupled by providing a pole of an uncoupling magnet on the trackway to attract at least one pole of the coupler member magnet to torque the knuckle to the upper position and thereby effect uncoupling. The coupler knuckle includes a projection formed on its lower side which is adapted to engage and hold the adjacent complementary coupler knuckle when cars are being pulled in a normal running mode to prevent the knuckles from unintentionally disengaging when coupled cars pass over the uncoupling magnet.

  • Patent number: 4189864
Abstract: A self-powered toy vehicle chassis adapted to removably receive a plurality of different types of bodies, such as a dump truck and a fork lift. A body receiving and dispensing support is provided which, when the toy vehicle chassis passes through carrying a removable body, lifts the body off the chassis and stores it in an overhead position and then enables the chassis to receive another previously stored overhead body and continue with this body thereon. If the direction of the vehicle chassis is reversed and again passed through the body receiving and dispensing support, the two bodies will again be interchanged on the chassis and such interchange of the two bodies will occur each time the toy vehicle chassis is reversed and passed through the body receiving and dispensing support.

  • Patent number: 4185533
Abstract: A musical instrument is disclosed which is capable of being operated in either of two different ways--through the use of a rotary record member, or through the manual manipulation of individual keys. The instrument disclosed includes a windchest used to supply air to either of two different principal valves, each of which is capable of being manipulated so as to set up resonance within an associated resonance chamber. Secondary valves are provided for varying the acoustically effective dimensions of the resonating chambers. All of the valves have actuators which extend into an area of the instrument capable of serving as a holder for the record member. When the record member is inserted in this holder and rotated cams on the record member engage the actuators so as to cause the production of a desired series of notes. Keys on the instrument are capable of being manually manipulated so as to cause the movement of levers into engagement with the actuators when no record member is present.

  • Patent number: 4179825
Abstract: A teaching apparatus for use in teaching numerical concepts can be constructed so as to utilize first and second display members which are movably mounted within a housing so that each of the members is capable of being moved from a first position to a series of successive positions. The housing is constructed so that as the display members are so moved portions of them can be viewed from the exterior of the housing. An advancing structure is provided within the housing for concurrently moving the display members from their first positions to the successive positions. First and second return structures are provided for causing the return of the display members to their first locations after they have been moved to any of the successive positions. A part may be mounted on the housing and connected to the advancing structure so that each time the advancing structure is actuated the part is moved from and then back into an initial position.

At least one simulated key or key element accessible from the exterior of the housing is pivotally mounted on the housing. Mechanical elements are used to cause advancement of the carriage from one end of the linear path toward the other an incremental amount each time a key element on the typewriter is actuated. The carriage contains a changeable exhibitor, a portion of which is visible through the exterior of the carriage. A mechanical structure is provided for actuating the changeable exhibitor so that a different portion of the exhibitor is visible from the exterior of the carriage each time the carriage is moved to adjacent to one end of the linear path.
