Abstract: A body of foam rubber overlies a generally cylindrical rim of the wheel of the assembly. A tread rubber body has a central section that overlies the outer surface of the tread rubber body. Side sections of the tread rubber body extend angularly from its central section and overlie opposite sides of the foam rubber body. The foam rubber body is bonded to the rim of the wheel assembly. A central section of the tread rubber body is boned to the outer surface of the foam rubber body. Opposite side sections of the tread rubber body are bonded to opposite sides of the foam rubber body, and may also be bonded to opposite edge portions of the wheel rim. The side sections of the tread rubber body reduce the possibility of foam rubber being ejected from the sides of the foam rubber body, and also reduce outward expansion of the bodies due to centrifugal force.

Abstract: The apparatus comprises a rectangular frame (20) disposed horizontally, which is fixed to the forks (25) of a lift truck. Gates (29) depend downwards from the sides of the frame, and each gate carries a pad (32). When the gates are operated hydraulically the pads clamp a pallet-sized layer (43) of cardboard cases (36) therebetween. Other layers of cases resting on the clamped layer may be picked up along with the clamped layer. The layer is clamped on all four sides, and the pads are long enough that no bottle (38) can "escape" the clamping force. The apparatus allows a high clamp force to be used, without the danger of damaging the cases or bottles.

Abstract: A robotic camera dolly system includes a motorized dolly which rolls freely across a studio floor under computer control, the dolly carrying a camera. Targets are provided on the floor at various locations from which camera shots are to be taken. The dolly is moved from one target to the vicinity of another target according to a learned sequence of movements controlled by a remote dolly computer. The learned sequence of movements is taught with the aid of a joystick, and the motions are replayed based on dead reckoning. In order to correct translational and angular errors in the position of the dolly at the destination target, optosensors are provided on the dolly for use in detecting and reorienting the dolly relative to the destination target. The open loop control of dolly movement can be taught with a control stick and the motions replayed based on dead reckoning.

Between the deposition of the metal halides of the Lewis acid type and the utilization of the catalyst in the reactor, the catalyst is subjected to an activation stage by being maintained in an acidic and nonoxidizing or reducing medium at a temperature between 300.degree. and 475.degree. C. so that its final content of a promoter metal of the zirconium, molybdenum tungsten or titanium type ranges from 0.15 to 1 percent, based on the weight of the support.

Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus which comprises a plurality of tubes made of a first material, which tubes are mounted inside a cylindrical body or shell made of a second material, which second material undergoes differential thermal expansion in relation to the first material of the tubes. The tubes are rigidly secured by their ends to two end members, at least one of which is a floating member due to the fact that it is connected to the shell by means of a flexible ring gasket. The flexible ring-type gasket has inner and outer edges which are clamped to the floating member and to the shell, respectively. The inventive apparatus is useful, for example, in the ultra filtration separation of fine catalyst particles which are in suspension in a hydrocarbon feedstock which feedstock comes from a catalytic cracking unit.
Abstract: A method for sanitizing swimming pool water comprises introducing in controlled amounts, a bromide donor and an oxidizing agent therefor to provide the desired sanitizing action in the pool, measuring the levels of both active bromine and bromide in the treated water and regulating the quantity of materials introduced into the pool accordingly.
Abstract: A reducer seal assembly for providing a fluid-tight through-wall fitting. The seal includes a substantially rigid tubular supporting member having a flange extending radially about one edge. The flange and the interior of the supporting member are covered with resilient material. The supporting member is externally threaded so that a nut may be joined thereto. The resilient member coating the flange of the support member may be curved to conform to a convex wall surface. The resilient member extends beyond the supporting member for connection about a conduit extending through the wall. The assembly is connectable to a wall by first inserting the support member through a wall from the exterior side and then the nut is applied to the threaded portion of the support member to the extent that the resilient coating has compressed to form a fluid-tight seal between the coating and the exterior wall surface.
Abstract: The invention comprises a method and an apparatus for the waste disposal of light and/or medium and/or heavy foams employed in connection with fire extinguishing or the like. The foam is sucked in by a blower or the like, is disintegrated and in the following, is concentrated in a following container. The larger part of the air is thereby separated from the foam and the foam is reduced in a further-following separating stage to the volume of the initially employed foaming agent water mixture. The separating stage can be a centrifuge or a cyclone. Upon waste disposal of a low foamed heavy foam, this heavy foam is sucked up with a pump and in the following the pump is separated. In both cases following, the mixture is fed to a further waste disposal stage.
Abstract: A diagnostic system coupled to a programmable logic controller (PLC) via a serial data link monitors the operation of apparatus under the control of the PLC. Upon detection of a first event-initiating signal, a central processor unit (CPU) in the diagnostic system initiates a timer. The CPU then awaits receipt of a second confirming action signal representing completion of the event initiated by the first signal. The timer times out after a predetermined time interval determined by an operation parameter of the controlled apparatus. If the second confirming action signal is not received before the timer times out, the CPU provides an alarm signal to a video display such as a cathode ray tube (CRT) for displaying an alarm message.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for marine seismic prospecting, of the type in which a seismic wave is emitted at a determined point close to the surface of the water and the waves reflected by the interfaces between geological formations of the subsoil are recorded as a function of time using receivers arranged at a plurality of locations close to the surface of the water. A mathematical model of multiple signals and peg legs is produced from known wave equations. Data calculated using the mathematical model M(t,x) are adapted with polynomial transfer functions and are subtracted from the data recorded by each of the sensors in order to obtain final data. Using the final data, a graphic representation is prepared of the geological formations of the subsoil in which the seismic wave is propagated. The invention proposes mathematical processing of the data enabling the elimination of multiple signals and peg legs.

The porosity is generally between 0.1 and 100 microns.

The data-recording and data-processing unit further includes a device for calculating a value of B.sub.1 -B.sub.2, filtering the calculated value to isolate the induction fraction B.sub.L, which is only composed of a component B.sub.I resulting from an induced magnetization, and the component B.sub.R resulting from the residual magnetization. The induction B.sub.I based on the induction B.sub.1 in the shaft and on the magnetic susceptibility X can be calculated.
