  • Patent number: 5037616
Abstract: A device for injection of a hydrocarbon feedstock into a catalytic cracking reactor comprising, from upstream to downstream in the direction of flow of the feedstock, an intake and mixing system (5) for the liquid hydrocarbon feedstock and steam, a venturi tube (6) whose entrance cone (10) is joined to said intake and mixing system (5), and a protective cap (7) that is integral with the discharge cone (14) of the venturi tube and is provided with an orifice (16) for injection of the feedstock into the reactor. The dimensions of the venturi tube (6) are such that the velocity of the mixture of liquid feedstock and steam attains therein sonic conditions at the level of the throat (13), and the rectilinear throat located between the discharge cone (14) and the entrance cone (10) is connected to such cones continuously by a curved section without making an angle exceeding about 5 degrees and about 15 degrees, respectively, with the axis of the venturi tube.

  • Patent number: 5008804
Abstract: A robotic camera dolly system includes a motorized dolly which rolls freely across a studio floor under computer control, the dolly carrying a camera. Targets are provided on the floor at various locations from which camera shots are to be taken. The dolly is moved from one target to the vicinity of another target according to a learned sequence of movements controlled by a remote dolly computer. The learned sequence of movements is taught with the aid of a joystick, and the motions are replayed based on dead reckoning. In order to correct translational and angular errors in the position of the dolly at the destination target, optosensors are provided on the dolly for use in detecting and reorienting the dolly relative to the destination target. The open loop control of dolly movement can be taught with a control stick and the motions replayed based on dead reckoning.

  • Patent number: 4882929
Abstract: Changes in the tide effects at a given location are measured by monitoring the respective levels of a measuring liquid in two containers which are in fluid communication with one another. The liquid levels are measured by suitable transducers including floats, and result in electronic signals indicative of the respective positions of the floats. A difference between the two signals is either computed or obtained from a differential amplifier into which the signals indicative of the respective float positions are inputted. A change in the difference between the float positions measures a change in the tidal effects at the location. The change in tidal effects is advantageously measured in conjunction with measuring leakage of liquid from liquid storage tanks, such as fuel storage tanks of filling stations, where tide effects occur and must be taken into account.
