Abstract: A nanocomposite comprising a nanocarrier, a pharmaceutical compound disposed on a surface of the nanocarrier, and a biocompatible coating disposed on the pharmaceutical compound. The nanocarrier comprises nanotubes of a silicate or aluminosilicate material, preferably halloysite, and nanoparticles of a magnetic transition metal ferrite material of formula MFe2O4, where M is selected from the group consisting of zinc, nickel, copper, manganese, and cobalt, the nanoparticles being disposed on an interior and/or an exterior surface of the nanotubes. The pharmaceutical compound is disposed in the pores and/or on the surface of the nanocarrier by a solution phase impregnation process. The nanomedicinal composition is used in a method of treating pulmonary infections. The nanomedicinal composition may be administered by inhalation.

Abstract: Methods are provided to predict, based on chest radiographs, whether a patient suffers from any comorbidities in one or more high-level comorbidity classes, e.g., high-level hierarchical condition categories. The chest radiograph is a low-cost, minimally-invasive source of visual information that is able to accurately predict whether a subject suffers from diabetes with chronic complications, morbid obesity, congestive heart failure, specified heart arrhythmias, vascular disease, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, among other high-level comorbidity classes. The predictive methods provided herein are also able to accurately predict overall measures of health-related complications, including the risk adjustment factor. These predictive methods can be used to focus review of medical records, improving the detection of disease. Outputs generated by these methods can also be used to predict the severity of disease and/or the extent of care provided to subjects with COVID-19 or related diseases.

Abstract: A ring resonator optical modulator comprises: an optical region in which optical radiation can propagate in a circular path having an inner radius and an outer radius coincident with an outer perimeter of the ring resonator optical modulator; a MOS capacitor structure having an upper gate device layer and a lower body device layer, and an insulating material being disposed between the upper gate device layer and the lower body device layer; and a cladding region. The optical radiation is confined within the optical region. The insulating material has a first region disposed in the optical region having a first thickness and a second region having a second thickness greater than the first thickness, the second region being disposed radially inwardly from the inner radius of the optical region, such that the optical radiation is radially confined toward the outer side of the inner radius of the optical region.
Abstract: Methods and systems of eliminating corrupting influences caused by the propagation medium and the data capture devices themselves from useful image features or characteristics such as the degree of symmetry are disclosed. The method includes the steps of obtaining image-plane data using a plurality of data capture devices, wherein the image-plane data is a combined visibility from each of the data capture devices, measuring the closure phase geometrically in the image-plane directly from the image-plane, removing the corruptions from the image features based on the measured closure phase to remove the non-ideal nature of the measurement process, and outputting the uncorrupted morphological features of the target object in the image. The method relies on the Shape-Orientation-Size conservation principle for images produced from three visibilities made from a closed triad of data capture devices.

Abstract: The present invention involves the formation of host-guest complexes between C-methylresorcin[4]arene and Oxybenzone (OXB). NMR spectroscopy confirmed the formation of a weak host-guest complex and molecular dynamics docking simulations indicated that this complex likely had a 1:1 stoichiometry. Furthermore, skin permeation testing revealed that complexation by C-methylresorcin[4]arene significantly reduced the amount of OXB that permeated skin. These results show the potential of supramolecular complexation for improving the stability and decreasing the skin permeability of OXB, thus limiting harmful side effects.
Abstract: Described herein is a method and system for automated, context sensitive and non-intrusive insertion of consumer-adaptive content in video. It assesses ‘context’ in the video that a consumer is viewing through multiple modalities and metadata about the video. The method and system described herein analyzes relevance for a consumer based on multiple factors such as the profile information of the end-user, history of the content, social media and consumer interests and professional or educational background, through patterns from multiple sources. The system also implements local-context through search techniques for localizing sufficiently large, homogenous regions in the image that do not obfuscate protagonists or objects in focus but are viable candidate regions for insertion for the intended content. This makes relevant, curated content available to a user in the most effortless manner without hampering the viewing experience of the main video.

Abstract: In a Byzantine computing environment in which a database is sharded or partitioned among multiple clusters of computing nodes, consensus for and execution of data transactions (e.g., transactions that require and/or affect data of one or more shards) are achieved in a resilient manner. Within some clusters, multiple primary replicas concurrently propose transactions for processing in parallel by all replicas. For some multi-shard transactions, shards involved in the transactions may be logically ring-ordered; each shard in turn achieves consensus among its nodes to commit the transactions, and then executes its portion of the operation after consensus is obtained among all shards. For some other multi-shard transactions, involved shards first determine whether local data constraints are satisfied, after which data modifications are made in parallel.

Abstract: A pneumatic automatic pressure regulating valve for automatic driving of a commercial vehicle includes an upper valve body and a lower valve body that form a chamber of the automatic pressure regulating valve. A quick-acting intake valve assembly and a quick-acting exhaust valve assembly are mounted on the upper valve body. A main valve core assembly is mounted on the lower valve body. The quick-acting intake valve and the quick-acting exhaust valve are normally closed and both are configured to regulate an air pressure in the control chamber A such that air enters the working chamber B to increase a pressure or is vented therefrom to reduce the pressure, thereby controlling a pressure in a brake chamber. The pneumatic automatic pressure regulating valve can be widely applied to autonomous vehicles or unmanned driving. The familiarity dependency of a driver on a valve control system is reduced.
