Abstract: A device to change the temperature of a localized volume of material. A workable device includes at least one heat transfer mechanism having an external surface for direct contact with an exposed surface of the material. A working fluid is directed by input and output conduits to contact an internal surface of the heat transfer mechanism. The heat transfer mechanism exchanges heat between the working fluid and the material. Temperature of the working fluid may be regulated by a thermal system disposed at a remote location. An optional temperature sensing element may monitor a local temperature of the heat transfer mechanism or otherwise infer a temperature of a portion of the material. Sometimes, a device includes a cooperating anchoring arrangement to facilitate holding the heat transfer mechanism in a desired spot. Certain devices may be plastically deformed to a desired device shape.

Abstract: Disclosed are recombinant phages that infect and kill bacterial hosts in response to user-defined inputs. The components that encode the user-defined inputs can be combined, such that multiple inputs are maintained on a single recombinant phage, enabling precise control over the targeting strategy. The phages can be engineered to kill a specific bacterial species or multiple species simultaneously. Recombinant phages can also be engineered to harbor fluorescent and bioluminescent reporter genes that enable them to be used for tracking, detection, and in biosensing applications. Recombinant phages can also be used to lyse bacterial cells that produce recombinant proteins, as a rapid method to enable extraction and high-level purification of potentially valuable and/or industrially important proteins.

Abstract: A method of correcting gravity-induced error in quantum cryptography system, which is capable of improving accuracy when an optical cable is not installed and photons are transmitted through an artificial satellite, is disclosed. The method performed by an electronic device, comprises receiving a distance (r) to a satellite that receives polarized photon from a sender and transmits the polarized photon to a receiver, receiving an angular momentum per unit mass of the satellite (lobs), and calculating a rotation amount of the polarized photon, which is induced by a warp of space due to gravity by using the distance to the satellite and the angular momentum per unit mass of the satellite (lobs). The rotation 2? of the polarized photon is calculated by the following equation, sin ? ? ? ? ( r ) ? - l obs rr s ? 1 - r s r , wherein ‘rs’ is the Schwarzschild radius of the Earth.

  • Publication number: 20220011358
Abstract: A method for a direct current (DC) islanding detection based on positive feedback of a bus voltage at a specific frequency, essentially including three steps: extraction of a specific frequency component of the bus voltage, injection of a disturbance component of the specific frequency, and determination of DC islanding. The extraction of the specific frequency component of the bus voltage and the injection of the disturbance component of the specific frequency constitute a positive feedback mechanism in a power management unit control loop. In a grid-connected mode of a DC grid, the positive feedback mechanism fails due to a control action of a voltage management unit on a bus, and the bus voltage remains stable. In an islanding mode of the DC grid, under an action of the positive feedback mechanism, the power management unit allows the bus voltage to generate a self-excited oscillation at the specific frequency.
